Missing out on a top five placing by the skin of its teeth is the hoe ala Girl Under You. G.U.Y." is a song written by Lady Gaga in 2012 for ARTPOP. She revealed the song title in an interview with Stylist magazine. Shortly after the publication of the article, Gaga published a message on Little Monsters: "They got the title wrong. its G.U.Y (Girl Under You) :)" On October 14, 2013, Gaga told Emma, the second little monster to join the Haus, to play a 12 second snippet of G.U.Y. on RadioARTPOP, a fan-made webshow that livestreamed the snippet.

Any kind of feminist has valid views for herself about what it means to be a feminist, but, as a new-age feminist, I would say I quite like the transference of strength I feel by submitting to a man – being under him. I actually wrote a song about it on my album, it’s called GUY and it stands for Go Under You. So wearing make-up, smelling delicious and having suckable, kissable, edible things between your limbs is something I find strengthening because I know that when I pick the right guy, I can let him have it. Some women feel oppressed by make-up and clothing, and here’s to them, they have every right to feel that way as well.

—Lady Gaga for Stylist

On The Red Carpet Review:
In one of the album's most immediately catchy tracks, Gaga describes wanting to be the perfect girl for the guy she loves. The track, which is an acronym for "Girl Under You," features a dizzying, clap-along chours, prefaced by the odd spoken-word verse, "Touch me, touch me, don't be sweet / Love me, love me, please Re-Tweet..."
Billboard Review:
After blasting off to sensual heaven on "Venus," Gaga returns to Earth for "G.U.Y." (which stands for 'Girl Under You,') a shuddering dance siren that makes the distinction between gender equality and willful sexual submission. Zedd's hornet's nest of production swarms Gaga's provocative commands, and the sucker-punch of the hook hammers the message home to create the first true "ARTPOP" standout.

Popdust Review:
This is another classic Gaga [hit]. The track sounds a lot like Gaga’s previous hit, Poker Face. It’s an edgy beat with a powerful melody. The pop star highlights her vocal range and musical talent in this track while keeping it upbeat and fun.

You’ll hear this tune in the back of your crush’s car (the back because if you were already a couple you’d be riding shotgun), or on the dance floor of your favorite club. Being interchangeable is one of this Gaga’s biggest talents. There’s so much variety on this album, and G.U.Y is of the type we’ve all learned to love in our experience as Little Monsters.
Popdust says: 4/5

MTV Review:
Undergrads, start your theses! On “G.U.Y.,” or “Girl Under You,” Gaga plays with gender, sex roles, dominance, and submission, and wraps it up in a pulsing synth beat reminiscent of The Fame era. While the ideas expressed in the lyrical content pushes new boundaries for the singer, I just wish that the music she paired it with was equally as innovative.

RATING: 4 knowing glances from Marina Abramovic out of 5

The marmite of ARTPOP, ala Garden Panty finishes in at a decent number five. #TeamVenus shall be pleased. Fun fact: 'PENUS' has the second most 11s of the entire rate! "Venus" is a song by American recording artist Lady Gaga from her third studio album, Artpop (2013); it appears as the second track on the album. It was written by Gaga, along with Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair, Hugo Leclercq, Dino Zisis, Nick Monson, and Sun Ra, and produced by Gaga herself. Originally intended as the second single from the album, it was released as the first promotional single from it on October 28, 2013 on iTunes Store, after the positive reception of "Do What U Want", which was planned to be a promotional single only.

"Venus" is a synthpop and dance-pop song with four hooks, which lyrically presents Gaga as the goddess of love, from Sandro Botticelli's painting The Birth of Venus. It also name-checks the planets in the solar system. The singer had been promoting "Venus" before its release, by tweeting its lyrics, also as part of a countdown for the release of Artpop. Three different artworks were done by Steven Klein, including one with a scorpion attached to her head, a picture of a dead bat and a third seeing her standing naked with an open clam shell superimposed above her shoulder and covering her lower face. The artworks attained a mixed reaction from critics, who deemed them as "weird" or "striking".

Upon its release, "Venus" received mixed reviews from music critics, who called the song catchy, but preferred the previously released "Do What U Want", and had mixed feelings towards the lyrics. It attainted moderated success on charts around the world, peaking within the top-forty in Australia, Germany and the United States, while reaching the top three in Finland and Spain. Gaga has performed the song on the tenth series of The X Factor (UK), along with a suggestive performance of "Do What U Want", which prompted complaints to the broadcaster and British media regulator, Ofcom, due to Gaga's costume, performance and suggestive lyrics, which was broadcast before the 9pm watershed. According to Jon Pareles from The New York Times, it is a "mutating, episodic dance-floor track, [in which] the singer presents herself as the goddess of love in the 'seashell bikini' painted by Botticelli." Lyrically, it is space-themed, name-checking the planets in the Solar System, with references to the planet's mythical counterpart, Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. The extraterrestrial themes draw comparisons to Katy Perry's "E.T.". John Walker from MTV Buzzworthy noted that "During Gaga's futuristic ballroom emcee moment, where she channels something straight out of Paris Is Burning: 2389, she utters the line 'Uranus!/ Don't you know my ass is famous!?' That's, like, the greatest version of 'Don't You Know Who I Am!?' that we've ever heard." (Source: Wikipedia)

The apparent fan favourite "Gypsy" isn't actually the fan favourite after it all, it ranks in at #4! "Gypsy" is a song written by Lady Gaga and RedOne, produced by Madeon in 2012 for ARTPOP. She revealed the song title on Fun Radio interview. There was a misconception about "Gypsy" being the next single after "Applause" when a photo starting spreading around the internet that said the album featured "Applause" and "Gypsy". However, on January 21, 2014, Interscope Records revealed that the song was to serve as the third single. This was later dismissed as Interscope said the single choice is still undecided. On October 24, 2013 Gaga said through twitter, "2day at AMPYA ARTPOP listening party in Germany I'll perform the world premiere of 'Gypsy' at the piano! Stream it tonight around the world!" She performed the acoustic version at the event. The song references the song "Scheiße" in the line "don't speak German but I try". Gaga performed this track in its entirety for the first time for guests at an exclusive listening party at Berlin's famed Berghain club. on September 24, 2013. She told the audience: "I wrote this song as I was travelling around the world… they say 'a Gypsy doesn't have a home.' But I do have a home. I have a home with you always." Gaga described this during a Twitter Q&A as "a ballad/electronic song. But there is a lot of hard funky midtempo + a space rock electronica explosion of beats." The song was co-produced by French teenager DJ Madeon and Gaga's frequent collaborator RedOne. During an interview with French station Fun Radio yesterday, Gaga said of Madeon: "He is so amazing. He has such an understanding of music at such a young age. He reminds me of myself so much. He's obsessed, so obsessed with music. We worked on some amazing songs together." Gypsies are nomadic people of low caste Indian origin, who migrated to Persia. They moved onto Europe, reaching Germany and France in the 15th century. In some countries gypsies have gained a romantic veneer through their colorful horse-drawn caravans and their leisurely 'open road.' lifestyle. The name gypsy derives from the original mistaken belief that they came from Egypt. They were called Egyptians, which became corrupted to Gyptians and so to the present form. Gypsies are well known for their Folk music. The earliest reference to what are believed to be Gypsies as musicians was used in the mid 11th century in Constantinople. When the Bolsheviks came to power in Russia in 1918, they persecuted Gypsy musicians, who had long dominated Russian popular music, for having entertained the bourgeoisie. Most Gypsies chose to leave. Gaga had already started working on this song with RedOne, when she played some of it for Madeon. Once the French producer heard it, he helped finish the tune during a session in Paris. "We went back to her hotel room [after a show] and she had a piano and she was signing this chorus," Madeon explained to MTV News, "And I had never heard the original track. I started playing new chords and we started writing a new song based on that song. So it's kind of a nice story on [how] two different takes on the same idea made a new song."

Have to agree! Applause is one of Gaga's best moments of her career, hopefully it gets the credit it deserves here!

If that were true, it wouldn't say much for her career.
