Dunno about that, I think XFM/Absolute played it quite a lot. Tis a shame the other commercial stations haven't gotten on board yet though :(

I know thats why i hate capital because they dont suport indie music at all and unfort the chart is dominated by them & radio 1. I dont think Absolute or XFM have as big a chart impact as radio 1!

It's because Capital is aimed mainly at pop fans. As I've said before, each radio station will have its target audience, Capital don't have to play EVERY song just because it's a hit, because they target a specific audience, which is wider than that of XFM but not as wide as Radio 1 I'd say.

And yet they bum 'Let Her Go'. I understand your point but it's really not applicable to 'Riptide' which would fit in fine on their playlist (as would 'Pompeii' which they also ridiculously never play).

I've now heard 'Say Something' in full. It is EXTREMELY boring at the moment (literally sounds like the 10 seconds or so I heard of it before on loop) but it kind of reminds me of Rihanna's 'Stay' which ended up growing on me a lot so maybe the same will happen here. It really doesn't sound like massive international hit fare though. Glad Christina is not very prominent on the track at least because that'd probably push it over the line from boring into horrific.

Capital is a CHR station, so it is actually supposed to play the big alternative/indie hits. Yet, I don't think Capital even played Pompeii much did it? Nearly all the pop/CHR stations in the US are playing Pompeii, so I think Capital could have played it too.

It's the rhythmic stations (like Galaxy FM) that aren't supposed to play guitar music, but even Galaxy used to have some of the hits in low rotation (although to be fair, the charts were dominated by them at the time).

I listened to Ricky Gervais's old show on XFM, and they did make an effort to branch out of their format a bit. They played mostly indie/alternative music obviously, but they used to even play some urban music from people like Eminem and The Streets as well.

I do think Capital has gotten better over the past 12 months though. It used to be almost 100% dance-pop music, but now it's branched out more (I think it's been forced to, since there weren't many big dance-pop hits last year).

But by that your saying that no indie track will ever become a 'pop' song which is nonsense and why radio 1 at least try to playlist some indie records and give them support so they crossover!

Yeah and I love it on first listen, such a great song :D

I know it's been said ad nauseam, but Ellie's team is the best around in terms of strategy. Smart move to discount the single just before the almost-certain Brits win(s) and get it high in the charts ready for a significant boost. I'd also take this as a sign she'll be performing it (at least as part of a medley), but that may be slightly wishful thinking.

As others have said there is no reason for Capital to be ignoring stuff like Vance Joy. Believe it or not but 10 years ago they were hammering the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snow Patrol, Franz Ferdinand and Coldplay. They claim to play Hits, Vance Joy is a hit, and a popular one at that!

They *do* play hits, but they still don't HAVE to play every single one, in the same way Radio 1 doesn't playlist some top 10 hits, like how it's unlikely they'll play Into The Blue despite it shaping up to do quite well.
Don't have to, but they should.
Frozen songs on the rise again! .... Do you want to build a snowman now has two versions top 75 ! :o

They shouldn't, they're able to play what they feel would go down best with the audience. I like Riptide, I want it to stick around even longer, but Capital shouldn't have to play it just because it's a hit. No radio station touched Work Bitch despite it making the top 5 on iTunes on its release week, hence why it plummeted.

Radio 1 does play almost every chart hit though. Even ones that didn't make the playlist like Moves Like Jagger, Candy, Start Without You, etc. still got occasional plays (even outside the chart shows).

Here's a show on Radio 1 where they played Work Bitch: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b039x72p

Capital don't even give one play to a lot of chart hits.

And there's other songs they don't play in the day-times. Like when I saw Drunk in Love was on their paylist, I went on their website later to see if they're actually playing it, and all the plays of the song were in the middle of the night. I scrolled through a few days worth of songs, and it didn't even get played once between like 8am - 8pm (only XO did). However, that was a couple of weeks ago, so it might have changed now.

Has she performed this somewhere or something? It has been surging for the last few days now, I never expected it to get this high.

Shame Kodaline's new single isn't doing anything, I've been loving it recently.
