I don't even understand why we have AQs.

because if we didn't then the semis would be uneven every time that there's an odd number of participants. For example, in this contest, instead of having 28 songs in each semi there'd be one semi with 28 and another with 29.

I don't see what the problem is with uneven semis though.

But to me the winner/host automatically qualifies because that's part of his prize for winning.

Its a bit of both really. Uneven semi's would lead to cries of the contest being unfair and cause a whole lot of hassle. And most people would not want to host a contest if they were possibly going to DNQ. It's a solid system and I don't really know why its even being questioned.

I think we need to be more consistent. In BJSC18 1st and 3rd (host) places AQd and even though I finished 2nd, priority was given to the host.

 

So who gets priority? Host or higher placed in the last contest country?

 

BJSC18 was probably before the current rules re: AQing rights came about. I think it's been the way it is now (previous winner AQs and 2nd place also AQs if there's an even number of entries, regardless of who's actually hosting) since the reboot. In some of the older contests there were 3 AQs! (Wouldn't have minded letting Leww AQ again so I could get that AQ this contest but I doubt I'd have been allowed to do that :P)

 

(Also the only reason I've done '99% of the work' is because my half of the contest happens to contain most of the 'work' stuff. Yu still gets the most important part of the contest (i.e. final results) so I'd say it's a fairly even split)

I've always thought uneven semis should generally be the only totally ironclad justification for autoqualification. Fair enough if someone *wants* to autoqualify and take the risk, but I'd personally have a lot more time for a host who chose to go through the semis of their own accord when semis are even already rather than bagging two places in the final automatically for themselves and whoever finished second.

I don't understand your entries therefore I don't think you should autoqualify.

I'm expecting practically one vote per hour for the next 2 days now. A lot of people sure do leave this stuff late ~

Sometimes I discover songs that are 8-9 months old and it would be nice to know if there was any hype during that time and they got vetoed.
