February 18, 201411 yr 11/10 moment. Anyone that disagrees can go cut off their ears, they obviously aren't using them correctly anyways.
February 18, 201411 yr Quite possibly one of the worst songs I've ever heard - and I'm not the only one :P Quick google shows that! Yes, it is a bit like raw sewage now that you mention it. It's a joke track.
February 18, 201411 yr it has finally clicked with me after hearing it out last weekend. glorious
February 19, 201411 yr I do enjoy it, but I view it as a joke/novelty song and it basically sounds like her having a mental breakdown. It would be a disaster single if ever released, but it is much better than 'Applause'.
August 17, 201410 yr I've re-clicked with "Venus" again! Such a guilty pleasure. BTW it's surprisingly her 7th most popular song on Spotify! :o
August 17, 201410 yr Unpopular opinion but I still think if Gaga's management followed through with 'Venus' as the second single, the whole era would have gone down a lot better. The management firing and meltdowns would have been avoided etc. 'Applause' -> 'Venus' -> 'Gypsy' would have been absolute slayage rly. As gr8 as DWUW is, its video and performances would have been such a mess with R Kelly and all the controversy around him, tbh there was never going to be a video because of him, radio can't stand him also. If a Xtina studio version was pushed for radio and the vid then yeah its release would've worked a lot better, as a 4th single.

Venus is everything the public and the casual fans hate about Gaga.
August 18, 201410 yr Venus had actually had so much potential and would have made a great 2nd single, along with decent promo and a music video, and then could have release DWYW as the 3rd single, without R Kelly and release the Christina Aguilera version, I do agree with KATH on that one. But the mess with that and the music video totally ruined the era of an album that just wasn't up to scratch in the first place. But if the right songs were released then it could have been saved. Then releasing GUY 5 months later totally killed it, Gypsy would have been a much better choice, then Sexxx Dreams as a possible 5th. Releasing GUY was a huge mistake, such an awful track. Do What You Want, Gypsy, Venus & Sexxx Dreams were the only half decent tracks on the album, but still nothing compared to The Fame/Monster or Born This Way. Simply she needs better material next time round.
August 20, 201410 yr VENUS IS THE SAVIOR OF THE ARTPOP ERA! This bitch never fails me. Every album she releases an album I KNOW there's going to be some WHACKY ASS song that only Gaga could pull off and make amazing. "Venus" "Dance In The Dark" and "scheibe", all singles from her past albums that should have been. Venus would have been a HIT if it were the lead single and got the exposure and hype "Applause" received. Gaga is at her best when she's challenging the border of commercial pop music. Yeah. Sorry, I just went and saw my girl, Mary Jane Holland. ~~

Though, I think 'DWUW' should have been released as the fourth single, with an "Aura" or "Sexxx Dreams" closing it for the fifth. ANNNNDDD not waiting so long to release a second f***ing single. 4 months? FFS.
August 20, 201410 yr I like Venus but I don't think it's the best track on the album. Gaga clearly loves the track a lot and I always remember that when listening to it but it doesn't stand out that much to me when I think of her whole discography, saying that however it is ridiculously catchy and full of hooks and it would have been an interesting single choice. If it had been released as a single it probably would have been a major pop moment, not commercially but culturally to some extent! The video would have looked insane, Gaga would have created stunning performances and it would have been nice to hear something quirky and different on the radios for once (if they played it) :kink: Edited August 20, 201410 yr by Sociopath

Sorry, I just went and saw my girl, Mary Jane Holland. ~~ This x10000 <3 I know the song is detested by many casual fans but had it been a pre album single, I am almost convinced it would have smashed. AND I am not deluded in saying this. The song is pure gold in the sense that it creates its own hype by being so marmite. It sounded NOTHING like what was on radio at the time and would have stood out like a sore thumb (in a good way) - in turn making casual fans and the GP wanting to download the song just out of sheer interest. You can call the song novelty, cringe and poorly written etc but the fact stands people love quirkyGa and 'Venus' is exactly that. Its chorus and catchlines are probably of the most random, catchy and sing along of Gaga's career imo. I know loads of my friends (casual Gaga fans) who detested the song on first listen and loved it on 2nd and 3rd listen, it's just one of those type of those songs - it creates its own hype. I mean look at this thread for example, why are we discussing the song if it is so shitty and floppy as some may claim? Haters can hate, but they can't lie in saying that they haven't listened to 'Venus' more than once and would not have been curious in to what kind of slay music video would have accompanied it. Venus.
