Hey all! As part of our forum’s upkeep and quality control we are once again gonna ask you darlings what you like and dislike about the contest and the BJSC forum as a whole, and if there’s anything that could be improved in relation to the way things are run and moderated. This will give us a good indication of the areas we’re doing well in and the areas that we, eh, suck at, so it’s all for a good cause! What we’re doing this time is asking you to send your feedback via PM to one of the four BJSC mods (Cal, Silas, Jahq, Yu). Your feedback will be posted anonymously in the mod forum (only the recipient of the PM will know your identity) and the issues will be discussed by the moderators and management. We're opting for this format as we found out that when it’s public there tends to be one issue that takes up too much time and discussion. This way will allow us to hear and discuss ALL of the issues (if there are any, don’t be too much of a bunch of Debbie Downers plz!) and then we can work on them and hopefully make this forum the damn fine place it should be. You're not obliged to answer ALL questions, but please try to do so as it will give us a good indication of how good or bad a few things may be. So, shall we get started?

001 // What was it about the Buzzjack Song Contest that made you want to join-up? Have you got anything out of your time here?

002a // For those of you who have been here a while, are you happy with the development of this contest over the past few years?

002b // For those of you who have (re)joined us recently, how are you finding the contest as a whole?

003 // The veto framework is an issue that raises its ugly head every few months. What are your thoughts on the framework? Is it too strict? Is it not strict enough? Should it be done away with? You're encouraged to lay all your cards on the table for this one.

004 // We've recently embarked on an ambitious spin-off adventure. Is this something you can see yourself partaking in on a regular basis? Do you think there are any advantages or disadvantages to having a spin-off (themed or Reloaded) on such a regular basis?

005 // Events like BJFestivalen, TBO and the Awards are all something we're trying to improve. Do you have any qualms about any of the three events? Do you have any suggestions as to how we can make them better and more inclusive to those who aren't entirely familiar with them or those who are new to the forum?

006 // We're conscious that BJSC is absent from the social media platform. We've toyed around with the idea of having a BJSC Twitter page whereby we could raise the profile of the contest by (re)tweeting acts that do well in the contest. Is this something that you would like to see happen? Would you have any concerns about this move?

007 // What are your thoughts on customising the forum? Would you like to see banners like those in the Artist's Forums? Would a BJSC newsletter be something that interests you?

008 // Is there anything else that wasn't covered by these questions that you'd like to raise with us?

You may be wondering how can we know for sure that you'll do something if it's done via PM and not in public. We've already said that doing this via PM helps us focus on a broader range of issues rather than just focusing on one. Last time this happened a lot of suggestions got lost in and amongst the veto discussions, so what we are hoping to avoid is exactly that. We want you to be critical, complimentary and honest. In return we will do exactly the same. We pledge to feeding back in this thread on what was said (generalised and anonymised) to us and our responses to that. We will also post some summaries: one of the items you raised, one of the issues that us moderators are raising, and thirdly one consisting of our 'what happens next' plan. In our 'what happens next' plan we will let you know the issues being raised/solutions will be put into action with immediate effect, what we will look into further and what bigger things we aim to do this year.

While this forum may feel like it's run with an iron fist, we really want you guys to be involved and to be constantly feeding back to us. This contest works so well because we have such a diverse and passionate range of participants and we really want to keep you around. That's why we introduced the 'Suggestion Box' so you will always have a portal to make suggestions and get feedback from us. It's also why we're putting a lot of effort into the spin-off section. We want this to be more participant led and flexible.

Thanks huns xoxo,

Cal, Jahq, Silas & Yu.

Friendly bump of this just to make sure everyone notices it and has a chance to contribute. We've had three people reply so far and I've spotted a couple of intriguing ideas that might come under consideration. :D
I will give my feedback & do all of my other BJSC stuff I need to do on Saturday when I'm a little lighter on the coursework front.
I gave my votes for BJSC today and did the questionnaire thing. woo! :cheer:

We'd like as many opinions as possible in order to get a better scope of the goods and bads, please! Thanks to all who have PMd us with their feedback already, 'tis much appreciated! ^_^
  • 2 months later...

We received a lot of great responses for this and have been collating and reviewing. We will be posting what you thought and then what we'd like to do based on that.

So over the next few months be prepared to get involved. There may be times when we open certain things up for feedback and this only works if you take part and stay focused on the issue at hand. That doesn't mean we're going to be advocating a participative style of leadership, that never works in BJSC as we end up with half measures and compromises that look like the ban list, but we will look again at making it less autocratic.

Of course this only works if you actually speak up at the time you're solicited for feedback instead of whining about it 7 months down the line.

Ahead of our discussions about what you've written to us, I will say this: The Framework is not fixed and changes can be made, however it's here to stay along with the veto.
