Now I like this one as it brings us to the band that would have been too obvious earlier  Richard III's body was, of course, found in a car park. In The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy Marvin the Paranoid Android is left in a car park where he spends his time parking cars. "The first ten million years were the worst. The next ten million years, they were the worst too. After that I went into a bit of a decline". No, not Radiohead's Paranoid Android but the theme tune to the series, Journey of the Sorcerer by The Eagles.

Don Henley was drummer and co-lead vocallist for the Eagles. His only UK top 40 solo single is 'The Boys of Summer' hitting number 12 both times it was released (1984 and 1998)

but it's a load of rubbish...so, here's The Girls of Summer by Arab Strap instead.

B&S's debut album, "Tigermilk", was released on Electric Honey, a record label which was run by the students of Stow College in Scotland. Among the artists it released singles for were Biffy Clyro and Polar Bear, who later became Snow Patrol. Here's their debut single, "Starfighter Pilot".

my fave Hitchikers quote, and I honestly never knew it was the Eagles - it's in my downloads basket right now. Cheers Suedehead2! Certainly getting lots of tips from this thread B-)

I almost went for the Stingray theme, (World Aquanautic Security Patrol or summat) but instead, Starfighter Pilot, Joan Armatrading advised us to Drop The Pilot, and who am I to argue when she wrote this...

Love And Affection

Whilst making the album Back to the Night Armatrading had none other than Elkie Brooks cooking for her and her band while she made the album. Here she is doing what she's known for with "Don't Cry Out Loud".

Edited by Leonardo

Elkie Brooks' real name is Elaine Bookbinder. After books have been bound they may find themselves on a shelf between bookends. Bookends was an album by Simon and Garfunkel so let's have a track from that album.

From Mrs Robinson to Smokey Robinson, who wrote this for Temptations

The Temptations also sang "My Girl" which later on became a famous film with a child star cast, in very similar circumstances to Ben E. King's "Stand By Me"

PS: BTW, i  the last two acts.

Ah, Stand By Me, a great song and a very good film. The film starred River Phoenix (RIP :( ). His brother Joaquin (previously Leaf) played Johnny Cash in Walk The Line so here's the man in black himself.

...and from the man in black to the meninblack. No not that one (great though it is) as I'm feelin' a bit nice n sleazy..

The Stranglers

The Stranglers were from Guildford as was Genesis bassist Mike Rutherford, Genesis used to count Peter Gabriel as a member both as vocalist and flautist, here's one of his many great solo efforts "Sledgehammer"

So so tempted to go straight from Sledgehammer to MC Hammer and "U Can't Touch This" but since the best thing about that song is the Rick James sample, let's just go straight to...

Rick James' debut album was entitled Come and Get It - a title it shares (though that is about all it shares) with Rachel Stevens' 2005 smash #28 album. On that album is a track called "I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)", a song which gratuitously uses parentheses to great effect. Another such example is "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" which leads us tenuously (as ever) to The Beastie Boys and "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)"

once you've fought for your right to party, you might hear this guilty pleasure party classic

( can't wait to see what people get from this :D :D :D )

yaaaaaay! A perfect link and record, I was seriously going to enter this in BJSC later this year. Who knows, might still do....

From Mozart's 40th to a lower number. Number 9 in fact, and something verrrry dreamy. John Lennon's best solo record..

Lennon at his best indeed. The abysmal Joe Dolce is often blamed for keeping Vienna off the top spot in 1981. That's not quite the full story though. For the first of its four weeks at number two the Ultravox classic was beaten by Lennon's Woman as the post-assassination effect continued.

The song "Vienna" featured in the first episode of the TV Series "Ashes to Ashes". The second episode of said series featured the song "Fade to Grey" by Visage, with Steve Strange playing himself. To add another link, both songs were co-written by Midge Ure.

The word "visage" is a word meaning one's face, seguing into The Small Faces with "Itchycoo Park"
