Posted September 1, 200618 yr This is REALLY annoying me now  Firstly WHERE ARE these fat people? there are some, yes but not half as many as the media say there are  Also I saw this programme last night where there was this fat bloke and he was going everywhere DEMANDING that certain places accomidate for fat people like clothes shops for example Topshop and asking why they don't go up to certain sizes especially for teenagers, erm... there's a reason why they don't go up to certain sizes because some clothes don't look nice on fat people :puke2: and he even went to Blackpool with some fat people and couldn't fit onto the rides and demanded that they make changes so that fat people could go on rides in the future so I SUPPOSE he's going to have a word with Gravity next about that too  The thing that annoyed me about it was why should all these places accomdate for him and other fat people when it's HIS problem, not theirs -_- and do you really think there are that many fat people and do you think the predicted figures are accurate or not?
September 1, 200618 yr There are alot of fat people about. I see them all the time. Did you see that program on BBC3 the other night? 34 stone teenager? It was hilarious lol, I have no sympathy at all for them, they're the only ones shovelling food in their mouths, no one else. The only time it's not their fault is if they have an illness that makes them like that.
September 1, 200618 yr I agree, it's their fault if they want to eat, they should be more concerned with anorexia and bulemia over obesity. Eating is not an illness, it's done with that persons free will, anorexia and bulemia aren't!
September 1, 200618 yr More and more people are getting fat yes especially among the young which is worrying for the future The main problem in my opinion is lack of sport and physical exercise in schools, kids get no exercise or sport hardly these days, ferried to and from school in the 4x4, not allowed to play outside as mum thinks there is a rapist or child molester behind every bush, just dumped infront of the PS2 or the PC and generally getting no exercise My generation walked to school, did at least 8 hrs sport a week at school, played football in the park or in the street most nights etc etc The PS2 / 4x4 generation are just stuffing their faces with burgers and fast food, being ferried to school, getting hardly any sport and exercise at school and therefore getting obese More sport needs to be played at school to give these kids exercise and burn off the calories Edited September 1, 200618 yr by Ozzy Osbourne
September 1, 200618 yr Why does everyone assume kids get 'ferried about in a 4x4' ? I walk to school, always have done. Not everyone likes p.e. and sport though but that doesn't mean you'll get fat. It's what you eat. Also, nowdays it's not really safe to let your kids go playing outside in the street.

It's what you eat. Also, nowdays it's not really safe to let your kids go playing outside in the street. I am not talking about people who are naturally slim or whatever, am not labelling people who are of normal weight I am referring to kids that are unfit and are overweight, someone who is a few pounds underweight or whatever will not get fat particularly I am talking about kids who are already overweight or put on weight easily, they need sport and exercise etc
September 1, 200618 yr I'm obese/overweighted (or whatever you want to call it) but I'm not blaming the society for it, I have a mind and I understand is nothing but my own fault, I don't even blame my family for it, it's MY responsibility to take care of my own health and body, I've realised the risks about being overweighted some time ago and I've been on a diet for some time now, but it's not as easy as it seems. You have your ups and downs but the thing is not to give up! I think I'm healthier now cause before I lost some pounds I used to have problems like a high colesterol level and my blood pressure was a bit high, but that's ok now.

I would say that in this day and age the main problem is the all-pervasive Junk Food culture, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Micorwave meals (of which I confess to occasionally indulging in myself, but they never should be forced onto kids....). Jamie Oliver also has to be congratulated for his campaign against horrendous standards in school catering as well, I would say that when the Tories started their cutbacks in school catering and allowing private companies to come in and supply school catering, that this is where a lot of the rot probably began....
September 1, 200618 yr The thing is it's too easy these days to get overweight. People assume that fat people are always shovelling food into their mouths when they're actually not most of the time. Most overweight people live in cities, where it is really hard to get exercise as most playing fields at schools are being sold off and you can't exactly go out and play or exercise in most playgrounds in the cities these days - they're infested with chavs and druggies mostly these days. It's very easy to gain weight if you don't calorie count - a McDonalds meal fulfills about 3/4 of the amount of calories a child should get in a day, and when you take into account the salt and grease loaded meals that passes for school lunches these days, is it really any wonder we have an obesity crisis? PE isn't exactly all that good for kids - at my old school, PE would usually consist of throwing a bean bag around a room, and climbing up an apparatus until some idiot would mess around and PE would be stopped early. Some great exercise that was. Even when it is proper exercise - like running - overweight kids rarely get any encouragement, and if found wanting, are usually made to do it again in front of everyone, which is extremely embarrassing for them, and hardly puts them in the right frame of mind when they're being made fun of by the other children. If anything, it puts them off exercise, as they are made to think they can't do it. Also, losing weight once you have it is VERY hard. Gyms cost an arm and a leg these days, and starvation isn't exactly a good diet, and usually ends up being ruined. Even if they do lose weight, it will usually be gained back quickly unless it is a sustainable diet, something very hard to come across. No wonder most people these days are more overweight. I find it very upsetting the way most people stereotype overweight people these days. Most people claim they shove burgers into their mouths constantly when in fact they don't. It is so easy to get overweight these days. Maybe they should be less ignorant. EDIT: Also, with sport, quite a lot of overweight children aren't willing to do it. They rarely make an effort because when they do, all it is rewarded with is laughter, and they rarely feel it makes any difference in the long term, so they end up going home depressed. Comfort eating is also a big problem - I confess that I was overweight when I was younger, and I used to comfort eat. I'm still a little overweight now, even though I exercise more and no longer eat so much. If someone would make fun of you, you would eat something nice, because it usually made you feel better, not about yourself, but you would in a way be swallowing your emotions down as well. It's a horrid cycle which will not stop unless people realise that ridicule DOES NOT help at all. I despise the common view that ridiculing overweight people motivates them, as this is very rarely the case and people who think it is are complete fools. September 1, 200618 yr I saw that program last night, with the fat bloke complaing about why our country doesn't accomidate fat people!!, the answer is because fat people look DISCUSTING, and it is unatural to be fat, know one is born fat it's their own fault. That show made me so angry, the 'faties' complained about not fitting on rides at Alton Towers, or that shops didn't stock size XXXXXXXXXXXXXL, BUT showed them eating all the time! why should our countries accomidations change because THESE people have no shame or self pride, and walk around looing like a fat waste of space. and OK people come in diffrent shapes and sizes, but to get to the point when you can't fit in a car, or have to get clothes altered, its's not the county thats the problem its YOU! so do somthing about it cos no one else will! Edited September 1, 200618 yr by Rikrokk
September 1, 200618 yr ive been thinking about this subject as its been in the news.. i think the figures are more or less right, why? well, i blame lazy parents for filling kids from a young age with easy fix meals, the kids get used to them. plus theres TOO MANY KIDS SPENDING TOO LONG ON THE INTERNET!!! lol. and not playing out with their m8s, footy, bike rides or whatever. if people eat too much and get fat, they have to live with the consequences... now ok, some people cant help being overweight, but most are through gluttony and laziness! simple equasion... intake more fuel then you burn off and it gets stored as fat. i dont accept excuses, as in this day and age theres millions of places and info on healthy eating. we never got such dietry information, and we were not a generation of fat kids. its time people took responsability for themselves and accept the consequences of their actions.

I'd agree with that mate. My mum and dad both worked, but ALWAYS made the time to make a proper cooked meal, with meat, veggies, the lot. These high salt, high fat "convenience" foods are a huge problem. It's okay for adults to eat them, but for kids whose bodies are growing and developing, I dont think it's a good thing.... And school dinners these days are a fukkin' disgrace.....
September 1, 200618 yr I cant stand fast food meals, being a vegetarian I don't eat burgers and stuff anyway. I can cook and definately will make sure my kids have decent meals everyday. My aunt is really obese, but annoys me coz she always says 'I don't eat much...'. RUBBISH. If you dont eat loads, you wouldn't be that size. You don't get to 30 stone living off ryvita.

And school dinners these days are a fukkin' disgrace..... Exactly! I was watching Jamie Oliver in Italy the other week, and he went into one of their schools. They made healthy meals for not much more than our school dinners cost but instead of making 3 c**p options, they made one and did it well. They did healthy puddings (usually fruit), and the children were much healthier for it. Why we can't have this over here I don't know, but if we keep getting sh!t like 'Turkey a la King, Drowned In Grease' I think I'll scream.

Actually, you don't have to eat loads to get that size. All one has to do is eat a little more than they require consistently and then you've got a problem. The average intake should be 1,800 calories a day, you gain weight quite quickly if you have, say 2,000 calories a day. Not all fat people ate loads to get the way they are, and I'm frankly tired of the stereotype that all fat people constantly pig out and eat all the time.

My friend is overweight and I know for a fact that he eats less than I do, and I'm less than 8 stone. I think it must have something to do with the fact that he used to eat a lot, and now doesn't do enough excercise to shift the weight.
September 1, 200618 yr What people should do if they're scared of going to the gym is buy one of those treadmill things from Argos so they can do exercise at home.
September 1, 200618 yr They eat more than they should though right? No one forces them too. True, but you have to consider that it isn't all that hard to eat more than you should without calorie counting. 200 or so calories isn't that much. That's, say, a few biscuits, or maybe an extra snack or two, which most people wouldn't realise added up so easily. It's not the kind of extra that the stereotype constantly makes out, i.e. extra burgers, it's a shockingly easy amount to overeat by, and an accident that can consistently be made.
