In what universe did Wordshaker pass 100k? It sold 80k and it's not available to buy any more so won't get higher than that figure.

Chasing Lights is also not past 400k.

For comparison, Girls Aloud's sales can be found in pinned threads here: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/Girls-Aloud-f18.html Not directly comparable as single sales were a lot lower then, and album sales were higher, but still.

There's no way it would have done more than even 1k since 2010 as its been taken off of many sites (bar amazon), can't even see it in HMV. But CL surely must be 400k. Shame LFTW didn't do anything :(

I can't believe some of the crap written in this thread. "Little Mix are atrocious/have massive egos", "Spice Girls were never that big". Not sure if some people are being serious or just taking the piss.
I'm not sure about the Chasing Lights sales, I only read on Wikipedia that it had passed 400k. As for Wordshaker I'm sure I read that it had passed 100k somewhere, and it is still available to buy, I bought the physical just a few months ago in HMV, there were 6 copies on the shelf, so certain places are still stocking the album.

Anyone can edit Wikipedia though :P Wordshaker *definitely* hasn't passed 100k, it's been between 80k and 90k for ages now.
We have another girl group currently in the UK iTunes top 10 with G.R.L featuring on the Pitbull track. I wonder what the record it for the most girl groups in the top 10 in the UK in a given year. We currently have had Neon Jungle & Little Mix with G.R.L looking like they might make it soon and the likelihood is that The Saturdays will make top 10 with a lead single for their GH, so we have four atm.

I doubt 4 is anywhere near the record. Without bothering to research I can tell you 5 girl groups or more made the top 10 within 1998.

2012 had four at least also - The Saturdays (30 Days), Little Mix (Cannonball, Wings, DNA), Girls Aloud (Something New) and Stooshe (Love Me, Black Heart).

Spice Girls, All Saints, B*Witched, Cleopatra, Honeyz and Destiny's Child in 1998 I believe.

There may be a few floppy one hit wonder ones I've missed as well.

What do people think Wild Wild Love will do for G.R.L? I really would like another PCD group (not 100% sold on them yet though) but I'm a bit pessimistic at this atm. The song is doing great, but I'm not sure it will do all that much for their popularity outside of that song.

This week....

G.R.L debut on the UK chart selling 26,774 as featured artists on Pitbulls track.

Neon Jungle sold roughly 10k with 'Welcome to the Jungle'

Little Mix sold roughly 2.5k as Salute enters the charts.

No Saturdays this week. :(

Little Mix are the only girl group in the albums chart selling about 1.3k.

I don't think Little Mix/Neon Jungle/The Saturdays will ever be as big as the Spice Girls however I do think Little Mix could reach Girls Aloud's type of success tour wise and chart wise however I don't think they'll have the same kind of presence as girl bands aren't as popular as they once were five/ten years ago.

Neon Jungle don't strike me as anything special. I'm sure they're nice girls but from what I have heard and seen they don't strike me as anything special or new. To me they're just a dancier version of Little Mix.

With the Saturdays I never know what to expect which only makes it more interesting to follow them. Even though I think lately The Saturdays have lacked in effort I think their Greatest Hits will be a breath of fresh air for both them and their fans and hopefully they'll carry on for several years after their Greatest Hits and then split harmoniously when the time is right. The Saturdays kind of remind me of the Sugababes due to their longevity just without the member change ups.

Even though I think none of the bands will be as successful as the Spice Girls/Girls Aloud I do think it will be interesting to see where The Saturdays and Little Mix progress as both bands have great potential. In all honestly I can take or leave Neon Jungle.

I think with neon jungle i like them because they largely built their success for themselves and they supposdely style themselves which suggests they have more create control than other groups. Also, little mix had a huge platform from which to jump off whereas Neon Jungle i guess are still building themselves up to a level where Little Mix were after the Xfactor. But i agree i doubt they will be at a level where Spice girls/Girls Aloud were at in their peak.

Just three girl groups I can see atm.

Like I said, even Spices weren't v big. Beatles were literally nearly 10x bigger than them for example and 1D are bigger than them with manufactured songs and drugs media crises. I can't see any girl bands even being moderately big like the Spices or All Saints again.
I wish Solid Harmonie could have a Uk Top 10..

I'm sure their 2015 comeback will SMASH BIG and HARD

The Spice Girls were massive flops because they weren't the biggest group of all time and we've been kidding ourselves that they were in any way successful for years and we must stop trying.
