Little Mix - Seem to have very "average" success here? I mean, they can never be described as flops but it seems that they aren't destined to be MASSIVE. They aren't really singles artists and their album sales are fine, but nothing amazing. Even with X-Factor, Britains Got Talent, a connection to One Direction and all the other promo/airplay they just don't seem to be generating much of an interest. Where do they go from here? They aren't taking off in America either no matter how much money has been invested in them. I don't know what will happen with them. Will they continue releasing 200K - 300K selling albums, one or two top ten singles per album and then disappearing again? The fun of girl groups has mostly been their huge single success (Spice Girls and the #1's, Girls Aloud and their top ten streaks) and the sexy image, so Little Mix aren't really filling the traditional girl group role or even feel like they are "there" most of the time. There's no gossip, no lads talking about the "fit one", no sexy music videos, no huge singles....just decent sales, decent single success and then rinse + repeat?

I wonder what happened to Neon Jungle - I thought they were going to be bigger than Little Mix and The Saturdays... :P

Quite worrying even with Little Mix. Apart from them who is there established in the UK currently who aren't on an extended break?
The problem I have with Little Mix, is that Jade and Perrie seem to be the ones to put in the effort. Leigh-Anne sometimes does but Jesy seems to just try to look sexy and make her way through as many z-Listers as possible  it makes me think that 50% of them want to do music and the other 50% want fame.

I loved 2014 me.

They split up in 2015.

I could see Little Mix having a slump next year (thinking Rebecca Ferguson type success)

I saw this quoted on the last page and I was literally about to go IN on you. Then I saw that it was posted in 2014 (i.e. before 'Black Magic') so I forgive these opinions. Even if I disagree with them. Even before 'Black Magic' their success was consistent enough to last another album or 2 at the very least.

Look at the date of the original post and you'll see why you've highlighted what you have.

Some time on since I last posted there is no denying Little Mix are arguably the biggest girl group since Girls Aloud - I'm expecting them to release one album before a GH or take a break and come back with a GH campaign next year. I am impressed with their run of singles since Black Magic though - some bops and a great improvement.

edit: Jonjo beat me to mentioning the time since that last post oops

To be fair, at that point I did really think Little Mix had shot themselves in the foot by going away for over a year and the whole negative publicity they got from cancelling their US tour. I thought they'd need a pretty big miracle to keep them properly afloat after album 3 (which they got in the form of 'Black Magic', and the rest is history!)
Little Mix had to steal the SPice Girls' cheesy 90s sound and early 90s demos and wait for The Saturdays to go to have an open playing field. They are AWFUL. They are just wheeled out on talent shows artificially to promote their artificial music like Leona was. They have nothing to say. They are the worst girlband in a loong time.

You mean "wheeled" out for that ONE Britain's Got Talent performance (granted it'd have been 2 if things had gone to plan this year - but 2 times out of a possible 6 years..). A performance which they are yet to receive on 'The Voice' and if ANYONE drags them for promoting on the show that made them every year, do one - especially because the hit that "truly made them", 'Black Magic', was a Summer release and received NO XF/BGT promotion. "They have nothing to say"? You mean except for helping young girls feel confident about insecurities and helping them (and older women/LGBTQ communities) feel empowered in mainstream pop?

Out of interest: What were The Saturdays "saying"? What about Girls Aloud?

It's fine if you think they're "the worst girlband in a long time", that's your opinion, that's not what I'm arguing here. I'm arguing at your other points as you seem to be literally scraping the barrel to try and justify why you dislike them so much. I honestly don't know why I bother with you, but congratulations you really know how to get under my skin and successfully let the stan out in me.

'Black Magic' was probably the biggest UK girlband song in the last 5 years.

Could say the same thing that other bands have been formed on a talent show. But there's no point. Why are you singling out Little Mix? Michael?

Yes, like I said, they had to go digging for old Spice songs and sound and dredge them up, using the 90s nostalgia wave, to get a big hit.

They have nothing to say. Their songs are empty pop written by people who don't know them and sung by people who have no personality and say what their producers want them to say. They have a cheesy pop song about BLACK MAGIC.

Their ONLY empowering song is Salute, which I admit is a bop and empowering. Everything else is not empowering. Where are their Emma Buntons tallking about how men devalue people 'if they have a pair of tits'?

Girls Aloud ALWAYS had something to say. ALWAYS. The Saturdays were a fun girlband who never pretended to have anything to say, but released solid pop and weren't propped up by the artificial Cowell machine. Cowell puppets are hardly at the forefront of REAL pop.

That's why I don'[t like them, Mack - they are a pop machination.

Fair enough, everyone is entitled to my opinion, Michael. Do you think the same thing about other pop machination bands then?
Girls Aloud were manufactured in pretty much the exact same way as the likes of Little Mix though

Except Little Mix actually DO write their own stuff a lot of the time

It baffles me as to how you think they have no personality? God knows what you think to The Saturdays in that respect! (I love them, but they really weren't/aren't that interesting as personalities!)

No, Girls Aloud became independent very quickly and TOOK RISKS all the time, from their third single to their lead singles from the albums - I mean, launching with Long Hot Summer, The Show, Love Machine, Sexy No No No!! They knew who they were and had an artistic voice.

Little Mix producers just comb the 90s and the latest pop trend sounds.

No, they don't. They might do a Beyoncé and change a word here or there, or cobble together something that never sees past its stans on the backend of an album, but that's it.

Saturdays also had a cohesive sound. Their personalities, or lack of, came through louder than the Little Mix desperate ones!!

Power is one of the biggest risks in recent times for an act of their caliber so try again.
Yeah, I particularly liked them risking it by getting the Cowell machine to give them a primetime promo slot. I also like how they launched their album off it and didn't wait until the last moment to release it with a huge promo boost and didn't use a big, current name on it.

GA were just the puppets of Xenomania, they wrote and produced pretty much everything they did.

God hearing Power for the first time now - just noise and screeching.
