The song was tipped as the most likely single the moment the album was released but Rihanna went with You Da One and Talk That Talk first.

What a tune. I instantly fell in love with this when I got the album, was very glad it was a big radio and chart hit in the end.
'Russian Roulette' is SO powerful and as Griff says, just effortlessly timeless. It gets better with age! So dark and the cover is one of my favourite single covers from her (bar the jarring 'Russian Roulette' font). 'Don't Stop the Music' is great, but overrated same goes for 'Where Have You Been'. I preferred other songs from the album, personally but it was most certainly the only logical single choice to be released at the time!
'Russian Roulette' is basically a better 'Diamonds' with more complexity and more meaning (and a lot less lazy), I'm a bit miffed it finished lower. Looove 'Where Have You Been', easily the best of that era for me.

Russian Roulette is quite easily my second favourite Rihanna song. So haunting and powerful, plus all the imagery that comes through in the lyrics. Glad it made the top 10, particularly as Unfaithful wasn't able to do so (I will have vengeance for that~)

 

The top 15 is near flawless anyway though, it's all pretty close.

Where Have You Been and Don't Stop the Music finishing in near equal positions, which is only right as they are both trash. How can people listen to that meaningless dance NOISE?

Next up at #7 is Rihanna's latest lead single Diamonds. It was released as the single to launch her first US #1 album Unapologetic. The song was written and demo'ed by Sia, which is noticeable.

 

Appearantly gaining 5 11's and 18 10's and only 4 5's or lower Diamonds misses out on a #6 placing by only 0.01 points. Joespassmore and Mr_Aly, watch out cause the Diamond stans are coming for wigs this time.

 

Diamonds was released on September 27th and topped the charts in 19 countries and only missed the top 20 in Japan. It reached #1 in both the UK and the US as well as Europe and Germany. RiRi also charted at #3 in The Netherlands, #2 in Ireland and a disappointing #6 in Australia. (For the record Jump reached #5 there)

At #4 is yet another Drake collab, this time with Rihanna as the lead artist. What's My Name ends at #4 with an average of 8.93 ploints awarded. What's My Name was released as the 2nd single from Rihanna's best album to date Loud. The general public loved it, but questioned RiRi's amount of braincells if she can't even remember her own name.

 

What's My Name reached #1 in the US and wrote history as she was she first artist who's 2nd single went to #1 before the 1st. Rihanna also became the 4th artists to have 3 songs in the UK top 10 with What's My Name at 8, Only Girl (In The World) at 7 and Who's That Chick at #10. What's My Name later peaked at #2 for 3 weeks before reaching #1 on january 9th.

 

What's My Name underperformed in the smaller markets around the world, most likely due to Only Girl still charting and the urban edge it had.

This is it, the final Loud single has been evicted from the rate as Only Girl (In The World) finishes in 3rd place with an average of 9.01, despite receiving 0 11's. The lower makrs however made it finish higher than say What's My Name and Disturbia because it didn't gain any lower than 5.

 

Only Girl (In The World) saw a change in Rihanna's image. Rihanna went from the dark bad girl to the colourful happy redhead. "Girl" went to #1 on 16 charts, including the US, the UK and Europe and reached a further 11 top 5's including The Netherlands, Germany and France.

10 11's and 18 10's were given to Buzzjack's #1 Rihanna single. It smashed into first place with an average of 9.41. And it is well deserved as the song is flawless. It lead up to the release of Rihanna's 6th album Talk That Talk and was massive around the world.

 

Chartperformances

New Zealand: We Found Love debuted at #14 and rose to #1 in it's 5th week, only to stay on top for 9 weeks straight and it was certified 3x platinum aka 45k sold.

Australia: We Found Love debuted at #3 in it's first week, but fell to #4 in it's 2nd. It peaked at #2 for 5 weeks and was certified 6x platinum, with over 420.000 copies sold. As of today it remains Rihanna's best selling single.

The US: We Found Love debuted at #16 in the US and then became Rihanna's best debut as a lead artist. It then rose to #9, giving Rihanna the record for the creating 20 top 10 hits in the shortest amount of time ever. We Found Love spent a massive 12 weeks at #1 and has so far sold 5 milllion copies.

The UK: In the UK We Found Love debuted at #1 with sales of 87,000 after 4 days on sale. It made Rihanna the first female solo artist to top the chart in 6 times in 5 concecutive years. The song topped the chart for 6 weeks, while also doing the "chart double" with her album Talk That Talk. We Found Love is the 9th best selling single by a female with 1.32 million copies sold.
