Welcome... to a suitably quaint town in the middle of the county of Devon, which'll kick off the Buzzfestivalen heats. *.*

If you're new to the concept or didn't see Lex's thread, this is a re-run of Sweden's hallowed Melodifestivalen competition for this year, where Buzzjack will decide who gets through. Didn't like that your favourite fell out in 8th place undeservedly (hi Janet Leon fans), this is where you can right those wrongs!

And so we start in Heat 1, where the actual competition in Malmo saw teen sensation YOHIO and slow balladeer Ellen Benediktson head off straight to the final, with former Eurovision winner Helena Paparizou and a guy with the biggest sob-story on one of these competitions in probably YEARS head off to Andra Chansen. Meanwhile a fresh face of schlager, a Moves Like Jagger-clone with a disaster of a performance, the Ark's drummer and one ethnic stomper bit the dust. All in all though, this was a pretty close heat in terms of quality at least as far as I'm concerned, so let's go over in more detail what we have. (I will use this chance to attempt to emulate Tirren's threads because I love my writing even if the essays will be nowhere near as long, partly because I don't want to set an overly hard example for the other hosts to follow and partly because I don't want to get repetitive)

1. YOHIO - To The End

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/yohio1_zps3c43f179.jpg

Returning fresh from runner-up position in 2013, YOHIO made it 2 for 2 in Malmo with a song far more watered down and along the dreaded MoR route than Heartbreak Hotel. Despite this and despite his hype probably having passed its peak, it seemed to net him far more Buzz appreciation than he got last year, at least if what I remember of the heat 1 thread is anything to go by. Which is, as a YOHIO fan but one who far prefers his former entry, quite a bittersweet feeling, the same feeling I'll have if he, against the odds, manages to triumph on Saturday night. I'm well aware this could be otherwise translated as 'I love Heartbreak Hotel why don't you all share the same opinion as me'. Less looning will follow with the other acts, I promise.

Anyway, even with possibly a bit more backing from various sectors of the Buzzjack MF fandom, to many people, YOHIO is still pretty much the representation of the rather unpopular 2013 final (which I loved but then I'm weird), and in a heat with far more obvious favourites, can he even hope to make it to Andra Chansen with Buzzjack?

2. Mahan Moin - Aleo

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/mahanmoin_zpsb322ac9a.jpg

Providing us with a token ethnic flavour this year, Aleo didn't quite live up to the hype that snippets were suggesting before all was unleashed on Saturday, and in the event she slumped into a non-qualifying position, well short of progressing to the next stage.

Well, fortunately for her, this is not Sweden and Buzzjack are ostensibly far more receptive to ropey ethnic females, so is there any chance for poor Mahan?

3. Linus Svenning - Bröder

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/linussvenning_zpsa0416fe2.jpg

It's quite obvious what I'm going to slate him for, so much so I'm not sure it needs to be said. I mean, would you look at those ugly piercings?

It's actually quite the nice ballad when the song is taken alone but when everything about the rest of the package is so calculated I'm sure I'm not the only one it puts off. Are you secretly a Linus fan? If so, help him, he's probably going to need it.

4. Elisa Lindström - Casanova

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/elisalindstrom_zpsac047f42.jpg

Sweden didn't allow Elisa through to the second round in Malmo, even with her very fun schlager offering put in front of them. As it is, I'm not sure Buzzjack is quite Moopy when it comes to churning out tens of schlager-crazy gays but I'm sure we have plenty of people who will love this regardless.

Were I offering odds this might be up there to do very well, as it does seem very much up Buzzjack's street, but if Elisa can overcome her failure here she's going to need your help to vote.

5. Alvaro Estrella - Bedroom

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/alvaroestrella_zps649aca64.jpg

Where did it all go wrong for Alvaro? Pre-contest hype was suggesting something that could possibly challenge for a DTF spot, something modern and with a breakout star ready. Even the pre-contest rehearsal had him as the clear leader.

Instead, what we got was a fairly embarassing performance, and a swift exit, stage left, courtesy of unforgiving Sweden. However, Bedroom is undeniably one of the catchiest songs in this heat in studio form, so does it have a future here?

6. Ellen Benediktson - Songbird

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/ellenbenediktson_zps63167969.jpg

Looking and sounding not too dissimilar from a singular Tegan & Sara (I'll keep at this comparison), but with far more delicate an approach to music, Ellen stole the show in Malmo, bagging herself a final spot with literally no-one on here expecting her to come anywhere near.

Songbird is a lovely ballad but I detect that since this there has been a certain amount of animosity directed at it due to the song she pushed into AC (because you've all realised that YOHIO was always going through *.*), is there any chance Ellen will repeat her shock victory on Buzzjack?

7. Sylvester Schlegel - Bygdens son

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/sylvesterschlegel_zps3f83619b.jpg

Okay, there is really no chance for this is there? Both here and in Sweden.

If you are a fan, don't be discouraged about voting for him, I do like to see upsets happen. ^_^

8. Helena Paparizou - Survivor

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/HelenaPaparizouMF1_zps96a613ad.jpg

Okay, this may be quite the foregone conclusion but she'll still need the votes. Forced to make her way through AC in the real world, Helena has a song that's almost perfect for Buzzjack in every way, and I don't think there's anyone on here who doesn't quite love it.

I think the pertinent question is is there any force in this heat that'll stop this going through?

Send your votes to me, Eyes, by Monday 10th March, 23:59. I think that's going to be long enough?

Votes to be in the following format if you please:

12

10

08

06

04

02

01

00

The top 2, will as always, progress DIREKT TIL GRIMSBY while third and fourth will head off to Andra Chansen in... so I'm told, Arundel. The rest will linger in BUZZ-PURGATORY forevermore.

Contestants in standard copy-paste format to help you along:

1. YOHIO - To The End

2. Mahan Moin - Aleo

3. Linus Svenning - Bröder

4. Elisa Lindström - Casanova

5. Alvaro Estrella - Bedroom

6. Ellen Benediktson - Songbird

7. Sylvester Schlegel - Bygdens son

8. Helena Paparizou - Survivor

Happy voting!

Even THE OTHER PLACE didn't claim Casanova!

I was under the impression it did! With a few reservations on not being the best schlager the contest has ever produced but still...

I have voted! 3 of my top8 are in this heat so it's sad to not be able to award all of Survivor, Bedroom and Cassanova 12 points.

Would have liked to give all 3 of the bottom one's negative points.

Even THE OTHER PLACE didn't claim Casanova!

They don't know what they are missing!

JUSTICE4ELISA

THIS!

Give Alvaro at least the AC he deserved folks, that's all I ask of you x

Seconded!!!!

As it goes Alvaro had one of the ALL TIME WORST live performances Melfest has ever seen but the studio version is appropriately *.* so I'm hoping it gets through in some form.

Actually, this heat's quite hard to call outside of HELÉNE. Predix:

01 Heléne

02 Alvaro

03 Ellen

04 Elisa

05 YOHIO

06 Mahan

07 Linus

08 Sylvester

2nd to 6th could really be in ANY order though...

They've scrubbed up the village hall especially!

Oh, there I was thinking we'd booked the CASTLE. Thank christ we're in the scouts hut, we wouldn't want to be going ALL OUT for the REPECHÂGE

has it stopped by stroud yet?

not since the GLORY DAYS of regina lund's landslide victory in heat two oh seven

I'm not actually sure what's going to win here, I assume other the Moop will be all over Helena/Alcazar but it seems like definite on here. I'd assume Helena will win but I know Ace/Sanna/Alcazar all have their fair share of fans.
Well Helena will so landslide this heat and I think she will win the entire thing in the end. It will be between Sanna and her really.

With the exception of the EAR RAPE that was 'Bygdens son' I'd say this was the strongest heat this year. My 10 - 1 points could've been in any order really.

#buzzfest Heat 1 predictions:

DTG - Helena, Alvaro

AC - Ellen, YOHIO

5th - Elisa

6th - Linus

7th - Mahan

8th - Sylvester

I actually think YOHIO could make it to AC over Elisa here, I seem to remember a few people liking 'To The End', myself included.
