BILLBOARD: Rick Ross, Pharrell Aiming for Top Spots on Billboard 200 Chart

Billboard (March 05, 2014):

"Rick Ross is on course for his fifth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. The rap king's just-released set, "Mastermind," may sell between 150,000 and 160,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, March 9 (so say industry forecasters).

Meanwhile, the red-hot Pharrell -- who leads the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a second week with his song "Happy" -- will likely debut at No. 2 with his new set, "G I R L." It might move around 90,000 to 110,000 copies.

Other albums aiming for handsome debuts next week include: Lea Michele's first album, "Louder," with maybe 50,000 to 60,000; and Eli Young Band's "10,000 Towns" with around 25,000."

Pharrell set to enter below the Frozen soundtrack? :( I did think Rick Ross would probably beat him to #1 looking at his US chart history but that's rather disappointing for Pharrell nonetheless.
It's definitely not going to an as big as it is over here but it may get bigger over time, 'Happy' is still growing after all. Next single choices will be super important.

Yeah it's very poor. It's comparable to him selling like 25k in the UK and that's very poor. But I think the album may hold up OK as 'Happy' continues to smash. You have to remember it's only just hit #1 in the US whereas it hit the top like two months ago in the UK.

Update, the weekend has significantly boosted the top 2 albums:

Well, "Happy" news for red-hot Columbia, as Pharrell's G I R L now looks to move more than 100k in its chart bow. How high will it go?

The weekend retail spike that lifted Pharrell's prospects hoisted other boats as well; MMG/Def Jam/IDJ's Rick Ross, a shoo-in for the top spot, now looks to sell in excess of 175k.

100k+ is a lot better for Pharrell than the initial 85-95k prediction, I think crossing 100k will save some face for him!

It's so weird seeing people say Pharrell's sales are a let down.

Well why not? :o He's not even going to double what he sold in the UK, so the sales are comparatively low.

Well why not? :o He's not even going to double what he sold in the UK, so the sales are comparatively low.

I understand why people are saying it, it's just weird because with Get Lucky/Blurred Lines/Happy everyone has always said "OMG PHARRELL IS A MACHINE! EVERYTHING HE TOUCHES TURNS TO GOLD!! PHARRELL SLAYING ONCE AGAIN!!" etc and now it's like "oh, wow, he's not doing too well".
