Clean Bandit taking off in NZ :cheer: Interesting to see the Australasian states taking so much to 'Free' as well when it was such a flop in the UK.

That 'Rude' song has been a big hit in Aus, NZ and their native Canada (as well as being a minor hit in Ireland) - possibly one to watch out for in the future in the rest of the world?

Quite liking this. Ska vibes ~

What is this 'Ribs' thing? Surprised but pleased to see 'Team' and 'Royals' aren't both somehow hanging around still :D

leave my thread you philistine

('Royals' actually only just dropped out this week after 51 weeks according to acharts.us).

Was pleasantly surprised to see 'I See Fire' top 10 and, upon further research, have just discovered that it got to #1 there! I know it would have had a lot to do with 'The Hobbit' having been filmed in the country but still, New Zealanders know what's up.

Re: 'Free' - for me, what's more interesting is why it did badly in the UK. I guess a bit of Emeli fatigue? I didn't follow its progress so I've no idea if it got much radio support but it sounds like a sure-fire hit to me. Great video as well. And as for those lyrics...I don't do yoga, never tried pilates...

Sam Smith too, really don't get the hype.

Only thing I can think of is 'La La La' was really big in Australia and New Zealand.

Oh the Tinie version of 'Tsunami' is actually being released outside the UK? I wonder if it could make the song a hit again in continental Europe if released there.

Two Jump songs in the top 10, and two Magic songs side-by-side :magic: :magic:

Would love to know what brings N Sync back in the chart! "Bye Bye Bye" was their first and only #1 single in NZ.

oi don't steal my update

(I was actually going to do this like now despite being about 3 days late :kink:)

Maybe *NSYNC have just shifted a ton of cassettes :P IIRC one of their songs was the highest selling cassette of the year for about 5 years running in the UK (with sales of less than 100 in each of those years but still). Your faves could never.

Yay for 'I Got U' charting though!

Figured it out. It was a radio campaign! http://dannews.co.nz/2014/03/26/nz-music-c...e-charts-again/

A station there was giving away Justin Timberlake concert tickets which led to them playing "Bye Bye Bye" and telling people to buy (:basil:) it.

Is 'Walking On Air' Katy's next single then?

Ouch at the drop for DVBBS, though it did seem to be super held back so not too surprising.

I'm surprised at how lowly the local artists are charting at the moment. This week it's just #35 & #40, and last week just #36 & #40, don't think I've ever seen it that bad.

and 32! So not as bad as last week then!

So happy to see Ribs, hope it gets a worldwide single release! (or 400 Lux)

Rihanna still slaying with Jump I see.

She should've released this instead of What Now and Right Now

I'm actually a tad surprised New Zealand has a strong-ish local industry at all. Seems like the sort of country that would be similar to Ireland musically.

I was just checking wikia to see if those songs had nabbed top 5 peaks just because, but turns out 'What Now' actually only hit #13 and 'Right Now' didn't chart :o That is terrible, 'What Now' is so incredible compared to 'Jump' and it actually had a video for one thing

I live in New Zealand and not a day goes by without me hearing Take Me Home on the car radio at least 3 times, looks like it could be a sizey hit for the UK. Also I have no idea how that Hedley song is so popular.

Surprised it's taken this long for Peking Duk to debut in NZ after how big it's been in Australia. And wow at Ed Sheeran's Elton John cover making the chart, he must be a really big name in NZ now :o
