“I’m not sure it will top Beyoncé, but it will be ‘Beyoncé-esque’ let’s just say.”

No, it won’t be available on Spotify, or any other streaming service. Not on the album release date, and maybe never.

Which is exactly how Apple is structuring this deal, according to executives sharing preliminary details with Digital Music News. ”[iTunes]and Beyoncé are very happy with the results of that exclusive,” one source close to Apple shared at SXSW, referring to the ground-breaking launch several months ago. ”So you’re going to see something similar coming up, [unnamed artist] really likes the idea."

In terms of release strategy, the artist under discussion is deciding the best way to release, with a well-orchestrated, pre-release notification to fans more likely than a flat-out surprise.

But one thing is certain, according to our sources: this artist will be working direct-to-fan channels like Twitter, email, Facebook, SMS and several other channels ‘very aggressively,’ with ‘special giveaways and bonuses’ for the most dedicated and interested fans.

[The artist] really likes what Beyoncé did, the independence of it. Streaming might come later, but that isn’t decided yet.

[The artist] feels there are compensation problems [on streaming platforms like Spotify].

Seems a big star is planning a suprise release :o

Who could it be? My first thought was Nicki Minaj or Adele, but it could really be anyone (some suggesting Gaga with that rabid Twitter/fan bit).

Exciting. Predict away...

Dannii Minogue is coming along to try and steal the limelight from her sister's album release.

Is there no end to that girl's jealousy?

(On a serious note, I guess it could be Gaga's real album)

Wouldn't be totally surprised at Lana?

I would guess Justin Bieber.

Honestly can't think of many other artists that might warrant this news. Won't be Adele, she's on an independent label iirc. Not really sure her fanbase is the type that would go for this sort of thing anyhow.

She's being branded around as a huge possibility. I believe she said a single is coming this week or next? Although not sure how far that social media thing fits into her and her fans, but perhaps.

(i hold no ties to this if it turns out to be a complete nobody btw)

Honestly I don't think Rihanna has the hardcore fanbase for this sort of thing. Though it is the sort of release I can see her liking I think she is too ... straight-forward pop for it.

Definitely backing Lana for this.

Yeah I don't think it'll be Rihanna, she's much more a singles artist.

Sounds like Nicola Roberts to me

My guess would be Lana, but the aggressive marketing via social media thing would more likely be Rihanna.

I'm actually starting to think it will be Rihanna more and more. She fits the bill perfectly and has been quiet for a suspiciously long time now. She's due a cohesive album and this could be just the way to prove that she ISN'T just a singles artist.

Rated R pt. 2!?

I'm pretty sure it's not going to be an album we already know about (i.e. it won't be Lana), thet wouldn't exactly be 'Beyoncé-esque'.

The social media thing is making me think it's down to either Rihanna or Biebz. And I highly doubt it'll be Biebz considering he has that whole law thing going on so I'm pretty sure it's gonna be Rihanna.

Or the social media thing might be a bluff and it could just be Adele. She does have an album coming out 'sooner than we think' according to an apparently reliable source so it wouldn't surprise me much.

Eh? The only thing that made Beyonce's release so remarkable is that it was dropped literally out of nowhere; if there's any kind of pre-release notification, that wouldn't make it "Beyonce-esque" at all...

By the sounds of the article, it seems this will just be a standard release strategy except exclusive to iTunes. "Promoting via social media" is not really anything out of the ordinary at all in this day and age.

I can see Ed Sheeran and his fanbase fitting the description fairly well, except for the "this is an artist you have definitely heard of" if they're talking from a U.S point of view, but then again hyperbole isn't exactly uncommon in these kind of press releases.

EDIT: Actually, reading it again, that would have to be a serious amount of exaggeration to be him!

It's most likely to be Rihanna considering she didn't have her latest album on spotify until months after its release. (Adele and Taylor Swift fit this description too but Rihanna's more of a social media artist)
