If at first you don’t succeed then try try again. First recorded by the band in 1992 with the help of Kelly Llorena on vocals this flopped at No 83 on first release in 93, and didn’t do a hell of a lot better on re-issue a year later when it scraped the top 40 but it did create a something of a cult following in the dance clubs up north where it was a sought after release. A third release finally saw the track make it big at be denied the top slot only by Celine Dion.

So what is she gonna look like with a chimney on her? I’ve no idea but this lot took an old Jacksons hit and zapped it up for the 90s dancefloor with some success. Lyrically it re-arranges the verses from Urban Discharge’s “Drop A House” which I didn’t know until doing this thread.

"Life In A Northern Town". and "Sunchyme" ain't bad either.

"Set You Free" is of course brilliant, excellent sample of thunder at the start too !

Sunchyme is probably my favourite ever 90s dance song (well that definitely fits into that category anyway) just so feel good and anthemic

That 'Feel It' song is my dad's ringtone for some reason, I'm so used to hearing it in that context that it sounds weird when hearing the actual song

More love for 'Sunchyme'. So close to that #1 :(

Dario G 'Sunchyme' ~ <3 fantastic

N-Trance 'Set You Free' ~ all about the 1992 12" White Label version with the thunder storm; undeniably one of the best dance tracks of all-time

Tamperer 'Feel It' ~ another guilty pleasure :cheer:

I don't think I have heard anywhere play Ann Lee 2 Times since 2000!
Poor Gezza, he did say that we may not agree with all of his decisions on this one... I'm sure the all knowing G* could insert records like Deee-Lite into the final list if we're not all completely vile to him along the way.

If people can't handle their decisions being called oversights in someone's opinion then there's not a lot of hope.

Adding up the 2001 re-release sales, how much has this sold now?

652,000 plus Downloads obviously

Set You Free has never been bettered. Perfection.

And with the loon glasses off Sunchyme is a beauty too. I can't stand Feel It.

652,000 plus Downloads obviously

Probably very significant downloads I'd say - it seems to always be the highest charting cherrypick whenever it's featured on a newly released compilation. Must surely have added at least 100k or so.

OH, Feel it! Release it as a new release today, and you'll get a massive hit. This song didn't get old.

I remember first hearing 'Set You Free' when it came back out in 2001 with the Rob Searle remix. Such an anthem.

Dario G is one of them songs that sounds amazing in the summer.

Feel it is also great too! :D

I quite liked 'Set You Free' when it was a big tune, it had just enough of a rave feel to it still - guess that's due to it being created in 1992 when things were a bit harder. Wouldn't care to listen to it now...well, maybe an instrumental version.

Was never big on 'Sunchyme' (although I did rather like 'Carnaval de Paris') but at least it's well-crafted from its constituent samples. What I find funny is that everyone expected Dario G to be some Italian house producer when in fact it was a bunch of blokes from Crewe who named the act after Dario Gradi the long-term manager of Crewe Alexandra.

'Feel It' is just an old Jacksons tune with a ludicrous lyric. Never quite understood the excitement around that one.

So good they released it thrice! First making No 24 in 1993 the band re-released in early 1994 after they had been the supporting act for Take That and attracted a much wider audience. Result! It was of course released again in 1997 after its use in the election campaign for Tony Blair when it went to No 19.
