11. RHYTHM IS A DANCER- Snap! (583,000)

YEAR: 1992

PEAK POSITION: 1

Pretty much the soundtrack to summer 92 this was Snap!’s comeback record after the disappointment of “Colour Of Love” (No 54), of course recalled now for the questionable lyric “I’m as serious as Cancer when I say Rhythm Is A Dancer”. It had another spate of chart life when used in “Drench” adverts in 2008

Dear me, Killer and Rhythm is a Dancer outside the Top 10. :o The late 90s have a lot to answer for. There's bound to be at least one howler in the Top 10.

"Rhythm Is A Dancer" should be Top 10, it spent 6 weeks at No. 1 and 13 in the Top 10. Absolutely shocking single sales in '92. :(

There is at least 1 track from 1999 to come, this chart run: 4-3-{2}-2-2-5-8-12-15-17-23-29-37-42-58-72 for example... :o

Featuring an interpolation of ABBA’s “Lay All Your Love On Me” this became the Vengaboys first chart topper here during a summer of euro smashes.

Had never really noticed the similarity between the two songs. Interestingly, 1999 was the year of a big Abba 'revival' (25th anniversary of their debut), with Gold returning to #1, the Thank Abba For The Music medley, and the A*Teens covers.

Takes longer to read the chart run for that one that it would to read the lyric sheet

here's what we should be expecting to see in the top 10 then in alphabetical order (don't read if you don't want any spoilers)

ATB '9PM (Till I Come)'

DJ Jurgen pts. Alice Deejay 'Better Off Alone'

Mr Oizo 'Flat Beat'

Outhere Brothers 'Boom Boom Boom'

Outhere Brothers 'Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle)'

The Prodigy 'Breathe'

Robert Miles 'Children'

Run DMC vs Jason Nevins 'It's Like That'

Shanks & Bigfoot 'Sweet Like Chocolate'

Stardust 'Music Sounds Better With You'

Think I know what has won this.

I have a feeling that Geeza won't include that as it's more poppy than the 10 songs in the list above.

Robert Miles 'One And One' ~ gorgeous

Gala 'Freed From Desire' ~ another cracker <3

Vengaboys 'Boom Boom Boom Boom' ~ unashamedly love this! :cheer:

Snap! 'Rhythm Is A Dancer' ~ iconic dance anthem  ; with it's epic chart run it would've been a massive million seller at virtually any other time than the 1992 sales dearth. :(

Eiffel 65 'Blue (Da Ba Dee)'

?

I sense some more controversial/erroneous omissions from the list as there should be more than 10 tracks left to come! I don't see what the

Todd Terry remix of Everything But The Girl's 'Missing'

could be classified as other than dance? Perhaps

Shanks & Bigfoot

have gone the same way as The Artful Dodger or Gezza doesn't like the

The Outhere Brothers

.

yah i think i know now what will be no 1 as it spent many of weeks at no 1 ill be amazed if im wrong
I can think of 13 possible songs for the last 10.

I loved the misheard lyrics gold mine that Freed From Desire was.

My love has gone no money he's got is trampoline.

or alternatively.

My love has gone no money he's got is bumble bee.

No, clearly it's:

My love has got no money, he's a goddess from Belize.

I always thought it was 'trombaleens' even though I had no idea what the hell they were nor if there was even a word. Great song though, surely one of the most misheard lyrics ever? It's even more indecipherable than Blue (Da Ba Dee)!

I didn't know what she was saying but it certainly didn't sound like 'strong beliefs' to me before I was made aware of the lyric  All I could make out was 'trumbeleese' so I'm kinda like Chez

10. BETTER OFF ALONE- DJ Jurgon Presents Alice Deejay (606,000)

YEAR: 1999

PEAK POSITION: 2

Ah the summer of trance. This famously missed out on the No 1 spot by just 470 copies to Westlife, it’s also rather reknown for the fact that the radio version of the single wasn’t available for purchase (though the promo version did have it as a track). No matter this was actually the 12th biggest single of 1999 outselling both Westlife and Geri Halliwell who both triumphed in the weekly charts over it, and it was last heard on David Guetta’s top 10 hit “Party Hard”.
