Love Faithless 'Insolmia'. Absolutely fantastic track and still sounds great even now! I also think 'Back In My Life' was a great follow up to 'Better Off Alone' too. :D

Ah, 'Insomnia' - the blueprint for at least another three Faithless singles. Moody beginning with a strange rap about nothing much in particular, then a one finger plink plonk second half. This one had "tearing off tights with my teeth" though and was actualy pretty good for a while ;)

And also the blueprint for Encore Une Fois and possibly I Can't Help Myself and Castles in the Sky (talking about the riff mainly, not the rap bit)

Yes, true. Although something like 'Don't You Want Me' by Felix could also be touted there :)

YEAR: 1990

PEAK POSITION: 2

Though her vocals and penmanship appear on “Pump Up The Jam” that was fronted by Belgian model Felly, but for the follow up Ya Kid K came out of the shadows to officially front the group. Follow up “This Beat is Technotronic” had guest vocals by MC Eric whom Kid K went on to marry.

58. LIVING ON MY OWN (REMIX)- Freddie Mercury (325,000)

YEAR: 1993

PEAK POSITION: 1

Bombing at No 50 on first release in 1985 the Mercury back catalogue had been ripe for plunder post his death in 1991 and in 1993 No More Brothers took this song transforming into a dancefloor favourite. It remains his only solo UK Chart topper though Queen have had 4, incidentally the video features footage of Mercury’s 39th birthday party in 1985.

57.3 AM ETERNAL- The K.L.F Featuring The Children Of The Revolution (331,000)

YEAR: 1991

PEAK POSITION: 1

Released as 12” single only in 1989 this didn’t trouble the charts but it was reworked into a poppier version for the follow up to “What Time Is Love” and duly topped the charts in February 1991. The rapper featured was Ricardo Da Force who would pop up later on N-Trance’s “Stayin Alive” in 1995, this track also made the top 5 in the US.

I love that Freddie Mercury track. I thought it would of sold more to be honest. Also 3am Eternal is a great track too. :D

Toni Di Bart 'Real Thing' ~ great 90's No1.

Faithless 'Insomnia' ~ immense tune of epic proportions!

Freddie Mercury 'Living On My Own' ~ fab remix :cheer:

KLF '3am Eternal' ~ sickkk  :music:

I much prefer What Time is Love? and Last Train to Trancentral to 3AM Eternal.
I hope you all are saving your 'Justified & Ancient' appreciation for LATER :o

Oh, I'd forgotten about that song and the possibility of it being in this chart.

Loved Technotronic at the time, but it's aged a bit poorly. Not interested in Freddie at all...

but KLF, now you're talking! I hope What Time is Love? (their best song, bar none) made the countdown, but it didn't reach quite as high a position even if it was being sold during the relatively busier time of the late summer compared to 3AM which was mostly Jan/Feb.

I think the popularity of 3AM Eternal was partly down to the group's crazy Top of the Pops performances with the whole KLF tribe en masse on stage...and who can forget the clarinet soloist?

56. JUSTIFIED AND ANCIENT- The KLF Featuring Tammy Wynette (332,000)

YEAR: 1991

PEAK POSITION: 2

Just managing to outsell “3 am Eternal” and become their biggest seller of the decade this was the KLF’s Christmas offering which almost succeeded. Dating back to 1987 this track made it onto their album “White Room” in 1991 in a substantially different version for which the lyrics were tweaked and oh yeah country legend Tammy Wynette was drafted in to provide some vocal help- gloriously out there and amazing!

55. STAYIN ALIVE- N-Trance Featuring Ricardo Da Force (335,000)

And here is that Ricardo Da Force track, in truth N-Trance’s demise from the breath taking “Set You Free” to the seemingly endless bad remakes of other dance “classics” was a sad sight. At least this was the first of that trend, and as a follow up to their biggest hit it didn’t hurt their chart career becoming their second No 2 hit this time behind Michael Jackson.

54.SUNSHINE AFTER THE RAIN- Berri (338,000)

YEAR: 1995

PEAK POSITION: 4

Originally a 1977 No 10 hit for Elkie Brooks this was issued twice though the credits were different. In 1994 the track made No 26 when credited to New Atlantic, U4EA featuring Berri then re-issued in just Berri’s name when the song made the top 5 , one further top 20 hit followed then....silence.
