April 22, 201411 yr It's going to be huge if those remixes are anything to go by. The way each chorus begins with low vocals before the next repetition erupts into a belt is quite brilliant. As is "i keep going to the river to pray."
April 22, 201411 yr Author I agree with Jark, it really feels like this is going to be very successful! The song sounds like it will be fantastic and Ella seems to have a great promotional team.
April 22, 201411 yr Well did anyone expect anything other than massive? I mean she's signed to Simon Cowell and he hasn't shut up about her since last year.
April 22, 201411 yr Very intrigued to hear this. With all this hype I'm expecting a Bleeding Love standard of epicness. Perhaps she'll get a Chapter Two after all.
April 22, 201411 yr Really looking forward to Ghost tonight (Ryan Tedder, mini movie video shot in New Orleans)! A lot of the media buffs out of tonights 'Showcase' seem to really like 'Empire' as well-- so reckon that's single #2 before the album release in September...
April 22, 201411 yr Author Such a fantastic song on first listen, I really love the up-tempo production on it too!
April 22, 201411 yr WOW. This is fantastic, delighted that this hasn't disappointed me at all. I love the near-acapella ending, and I can see that doing really well for her. Solid debut!
April 22, 201411 yr She is unrecognisable! Would not have guessed it was her from the video (or the song & vocals for that matter). Very much liking.
April 22, 201411 yr Good God that is a top notch debut single (and accompanying video). I agree about the 'Bleeding Love' vibes in that you know it's going to take her places. I can see her having massive success with this in the US. I'm still a bit perplexed how a sixth-placed contestant from X Factor 2012 has managed to attain this level of (time and monetary) investment, artistic development etc but it's great to see an example of someone who was so obviously talented on the show actually fulfilling their potential. The whole package is very convincing as well so fair play to the label. The song is slightly repetitive for me but her voice pulls it off so well that it doesn't matter. The hook is great, production is distinctive - can't fault this at all :P.
April 22, 201411 yr Capital are apparently giving this it's first radio play tomorrow so hopefully this is a good sign that they will playlist it. :) Edited April 22, 201411 yr by Connor.
April 23, 201411 yr It's very good! Wasn't TOO fussed about her on X Factor, but I like it when an artist from a show like that does this (Alexandra was another one!). Ryan Tedder really is a hitmaker and a genius. It's very 'Native'-era OneRepublic. Really liking it a lot. Bravo Ella. BRA. VO. <3
April 23, 201411 yr This is just FANTASTIC! Lots of complexity, great chorus- especially that WOW 'red dress moment'. It will grow as well!!! She has a pretty unique bassy, powerful, soulful voice going on- but also some gentler higher pitched stuff to emphasise the chorus. Love it!
April 23, 201411 yr Excuse my language but this is EFFING SPECTACULAR. I've listened to it about ten times since it debuted and it only gets better. Anyone else think some of her ad-libs, especially towards the end, sound exactly like Leona? I wonder if Tedder threw in a few leftovers from their recording sessions on the sly.
