I listened to this in full today to celebrate it passing 1bn streams and I agree it flows so well!

There isn’t any bad tracks on it either. I still see this as an improvement on the ARTPOP era tbh and I’ve always preferred it to that.

I wish Diamond Heart and Dancin In Circles got a push. Imagine what a music video for Dancin In Circles could’ve been like!

I’ve always loved Sinners Prayer as well and the title track too (I actually still prefer the album version of Joanne tbh it just feels more raw with the guitar).

I was just thinking too what a chart run this had here in the UK.

Her first solo era to miss #1 then the chart run follows a quick descent out the top 100 kinda run until X Factor and Royal Variety help bring it back up the charts. Then the effect of that wears off and it appears of fall out the top 100 again then the super bowl gets it to #11 (it’s second highest position)!

Then it ends up overtaking ARTPOPs weeks top 100 and gets a boost following the documentary.

Looking back it’s a special era what translated well into ASIBs sound. I also feel like this was a good move in the long run going down a stripped back route musically and visually too. Another pop album after ARTPOP May have been damaging but having worked with Tony then went down this style where she showcased her vocals was a genius move. She didn’t try and be trendy this era either which was kinda endearing and trend setting too like Miley Younger Now would’ve never been released had she not been inspired by Joanne.

One thing though singles wise we really should’ve gotten Diamond Heart as lead then Million Reasons. And then in new year get old fans back on side with Dancin In Circles then close the era with Joanne.

But Million Reasons really feels like a classic Gaga track tbh  so glad we got that to shine on its own right (and get 400K copies sold here too) not bad for a low top 40 hit!

I remember feeling SO deflated after I first listened to Perfect Illusion for the first time. I remember thinking BUT WHERE IS THE CHORUS?! and getting so angry. :deadbanana:

Haven't listened to the album in full for years so that's also on my to do list in the run-up to Chromatica's release!

Agree with that, what a gem that song is <3 Her vocals as well, they sum up the rawness of the Joanne era that made me love it!

Hi all btw :hi: idk why I haven't been in the Gaga forum much as I do love her enormously.

She has talked about this album in her interview for Apple Music in the build up to Chromatica's release. She says the album was a disappointment because she made it to heal her dad, but it did not do this in the way she thought it would, and through this she had to learn that there was no way to heal things that had been broken so badly :'(

I was a bit  at that too!

Joanne is gonna stand the test of time though. I really think it’ll be something which over time goes to have a real cultural appeal to it.

I kinda in ways (not like exactly) but perhaps see this being her album what she’ll perhaps never really go back to in her career again like I don’t think she’ll revisit that sound again now she’s done it and I also feel it may be too painful for her to sing certain tracks on this again too.

In some ways it’s like Didos Safe Trip Home in that she loves the record but it comes from an unhappy place of mourning / loss.

I agree with this sentiment after watching the Zane interview. I think it'll be hard for her to return to a lot of the songs from the album

I revisited the album recently and I certainly appreciate it more than I did when it was originally released. I've had 'Diamond Heart' stuck in my head every day for the past week or so now

Diamond Heart is my second favourite Gaga track after Marry The Night, sooooo superb.

Looking back now I'd have been SO happy if DH was the lead over PI!

'Diamond Heart' really should've been the lead single. In the way it opens the album (and tour) perfectly in setting the tone, the message and the vibe, so too should it have opened the ERA. :(
Honestly this is a really solid album which deserves better. 'Sinner's Prayer', 'Come To Mama', 'Hey Girl' and maybe 'Just Another Day' are filler tracks but a 10/14 strike rate isn't bad at all for CountryGa
'Sinner's Prayer' is not filler in my opinion! I'd say: 'Come to Mama', 'Just Another Day' (and 'Angel Down - Work Tape') are the only truly skippable songs - the rest work in the context of the album.

You see I THOUGHT 'Sinner's Prayer' was filler but I actually found myself bopping along when I listened to the album in full recently :o

Just Another Day...well, let's just keep things positive!
