What About Us and Not Giving Up sound nothing alike?? I keep seeing this argument.

The reason they didn't release Not Giving Up after What About Us was probably because a) They wanted to take a risk with their new found popularity and release Gentleman and b) Frankie was pregnant and Rochelle was on maternity leave so they couldn't be arsed with choreography and a fast paced music video. Frankie was then going to be missing for the album launch so they released Disco Love without any of her vocals and that again pushed Not Giving Up back.

The hooks aren't the same but they sound alike in the specific breed of dance-pop song they are. I think if they sandwiched Disco love together they would have complimented each other and would have given audiences a more structured idea of what the album might sound like. Instead they released 3 totally different sounding songs.

Critical reception[edit]The song received mostly positive reviews from music critics. Bradley Stern of music website MuuMuse recognised "Not Giving Up" as the best song off the album, commenting “Not Giving Up is amazing for a variety of reasons: For one thing, it’s about not giving up on love. Persistence is inspiring! But then, the actual song’s fantastic too. Actually, it’s stupid good." [8] Joe Passmore from So So Gay described the song as "one of their better moments"[9] Jon O'Brien for Yahoo! called the song "one of the strongest singles of their up-and-down career" describing it as "contemporary dancefloor-friendly fare with a trance-pop sugar rush."[10

I agree, they don't sound anything alike. The reasons were probably true aswell but at the end of the day, they took a risk that I think they should've done by releasing Gentleman. I think I'm the only one who has love for the song though :(

Remains at #37 in the midweeks, could drop out by Sunday, but we'll see.

They fell out of the top-40 in iTunes, and that's when they need some promo! A week in the top-40 can always mean quite a bit of publicity. And now they can end up at about 45...

I know. It's falling fast now. They could have easily held onto the top 40 with just one appearance. Two weeks in the top 40 for a song with virtually no support would have looked really good for them as well.

I AM Rochelle. x
