So you thought sending a dancetastic song will guarantee the mass votes of Buzzjack.com users. Wrong. Here's some examples of what not to do, hope this helps when you decide what dance song to send (because you know you wanna send EDM  )

#01: Elena 'Disco Romancing'

Our first flop was when we jumped on the Romanian dance bandwagon, popularised by Inna and Alexandra Stan. The song eventually grew on people, finishing 2nd in the rejects comp - above everyone except 2NE1 - but in the contest it was a big flop.

#02: Radio Killer 'Don't Let The Music End'

Next up was this which started the year 2012 off for us. The group previously did well with 'Lonely Heart', but when we entered them, to our surprise, it failed to qualify.

#03: Antillas feat. Fiora 'Damaged'

So then I thought to myself - surely the masses will love a big trouse tune with beautiful female vocals? It wasn't to be however, as it turned out to be our 3rd DNQ in a row.

#04: Christina Walls 'Carry Me To Paradise'

OK then, that didn't work. Maybe I should send a really generic dance-pop tune. That'll surely qualify! Oh. It didn't. Back to the drawing board then. To be fair though it came really close to qualifying.

#05: Airsoul 'Asia'

I decided to take a big risk here, with this lovely instrumental trance song. And of course it wouldn't pay off, making it my fifth flop in a row. The following contest however, I would finally get my second qualification.

#06: Oana Tache 'Take Control'

After that I began flopping again. And clearly I hadn't learnt that generic dance doesn't always do well, with this becoming one of my worst performing entries, and one of my least favourites.

#07: Adrian Lux feat. Dante 'Burning'

Next up I decided to send this, which I never really loved, but just sent coz I was out of ideas. So of course it wasn't going to smash.

#08: Andreea Banica 'Could U'

How was I gonna get my next Q then? I then had the genius idea, or so I thought at the time, of recycling the woman who sang in my previous qualification. The song was too generic for the Buzzjack masses though, and performed really badly.

#09: Netsky 'Love Has Gone'

So then I decided generic fempop wasn't gonna cut it. What should I experiment with next I asked? And it was drum and bass, which sadly didn't work out. The next 3 entries that I sent did qualify, so I was quite pleased with myself.

#10: The Aston Shuffle vs. Tommy Trash 'Sunrise (Won't Get Lost)'

Now this is one that I still can't explain myself. Must've been wrong semi syndrome, as it did well in the Rejects competition. Oh well never mind.

#11: Stone & Van Linden 'Summerbreeze'

I decided that sending a year-old progressive-house instrumental would be a good idea. Why did I think that?

#12: Tiësto, Mark Alston, Baggi Begovic & Jason Taylor feat. Teddy Geiger 'Love and Run'

Tiesto's a big name right? Plus the song is, in my opinion, very good. So with that in mind I thought people would give it a chance and vote for it. I thought wrong.

#13: Steve Aoki, Chris Lake & Tujamo 'Boneless'

Once again going for the big name with song that I absolutely love. But clearly Buzzjack aren't really into electro-house.

#14: Mar 'Man x Woman'

Decided to go risky with a dance and RnB crossover, but it wasn't successful at all.

So yeah, hope you learnt something from that :P But the most important lesson is, send a song that you really love! And if it DNQs, so be it, although it can feel bad at the time.

Your first mistake was using the term 'EDM'.

The Aston Shuffle DNQing was really a bit WTF. Antillas and Airsoul definitely should have made it too (and Mar).

I think going Dance is a bit hit and miss. I had minimal success with that Martin Solveig track albeit it qualified and middling success with that Kris Menace track. I'm pretty certain on what I'm sending next month though so hopefully it has more appeal!!

Enjoyed the rundown, (I do love a good analysis of music!) a few of them I must have been in the other semi but I recall Sunrise and Boneless as tunes I liked.

As a voter, while I love dance there's been a couple of occasions when there were so many it became relentless, and anything non-dance tended to stand out more, so it may have just been timing that did them in. Also true if there are 11 great records entered and the other 10 just gather enough of the votes to DNQ a goodie. Doh!

Hi Dan,

I'm quite a fan of dance and its different styles, however, I don't feel your entries most of the times! The sound of many of them is very erm... primitive? to my ears, and I don't enjoy them most of the times.

Obviously it's all the matter of your own taste, but I'd advise you to focus on something more intelligent and melodic. If I were you, I would avoid most of the super-heavy electro songs, 99% don't do well. But that's if you would like to do well, if you are just sending the songs that you love and that's it - then everything is fine. :P

Netsky DNQ though. :'( Loved that song.
