I don't think England winning is going to be a problem

Oh you never know what can happen. :kink:

This song could have been so good and everytime I hear it i'm like "yeah, this is pretty catchy" and then that HORRIFIC saxophone comes in and completely ruins it.

Get on the remix! It deletes all the sax and goes to show what a tacky, bad idea that was. The actual melody is pretty decent, its just the brass that cheapens it.

I've grown to really like the original version (sax and all)! The remix is great too, though.

I'm not saying this of anybody here specifically, but I think if the remix had been the original version that premiered, then people would have complained that she was being generic / trying to recreate Call My Name.

I actually didn't think Call My Name was generic, Promise this was very generic and just an jokes sent song IMO.

Loving CSL at the moment

That's exactly what I was thinking, the remix's structure is really close to "Call my name", she didn't need to come back with something sounding the same. In that way I much prefer the original to the remix.

I'm glad she's come with something new (no pun intended), infact even just the verses are something new in my opinion, they're very poppy and actually quite Girls Aloud-esque. I think by her releasing a fun pop track would have been progression from Call My Name, but the saxophones actually spoil the fun aspect and just dampen the track for me. Even if it is kinda growingly unwillingly.

It's a bit like 'Wiggle' in that I know it's a terrible, embarassing song but it's main flaw is what is actually dragging me back and forcing it to grow on me.

Is this released or not, i see it is charting on I tunes, low top 80, is it eligible to chart this week?
It's only available to pre-order at the moment. It comes out on the 20th of July.

Quite like that remix Jay!

I have to say that it saddens me that the public seem to jump on board with whatever Cheryl puts out musically, yet that didn't include when she's in Girls Aloud. Crazy Stupid Love is going to sell bucket-loads more than Something New and the latter is far superior in my eyes.

The public did not care much for "The flood" or "Under the sun" though. I think it's more down to the fact that her type of music is more popular than some of the material Girls Aloud released. Songs like "Call the shots" and "The Promise" proved that Girls Aloud could get that overall appeal with the right material.

Under The Sun did quite well for a post-album single. #13 with 160,000+ sold isn't bad. The Flood flopped though.

Even 'The Flood' didn't do too badly! Its sales were alright, considering its #18 peak - it had sold just under 119,000 by March 2011. Who knows what it's sold in the last 3 years, but I think it's safe to assume it'll be somewhere in the 120k-ish region at least? It also spent 18 weeks in the Top 200, which is reasonable longevity.

Here are Cheryl's peaks and weeks in the Top 200 with her singles:

#04, 43 weeks - Heartbreaker

#01, 69 weeks - Fight For This Love

#03, 32 weeks - 3 Words

#05, 50 weeks - Parachute

#01, 18 weeks - Promise This

#18, 18 weeks - The Flood

#01, 24 weeks - Call My Name

#13, 19 weeks - Under The Sun

I do think her profile/name carries a lot of weight when it comes to her though, with some of the stuff she's released it's like her team have known they can just throw any old cheap shit out there and it'll sell (and they've been right).

The song is holding well on pre-orders so far, hopefully this is a good sign. :)

Didn't even realise this week-end will be heavy on promotion :

- Graham Norton tomorrow,

- Capital Summertime Ball on Saturday.

:w00t:

The one thing we can't blame her team for is promotion. This is all so on point, there haven't been two days without some bit of promotion (premiere, video, BGT, X Factor auditions, Elle cover, and now Graham and the Capital gig).

I hope Radio 1 gets on board with this as it is the one thing that she needs now.
