December 5, 201410 yr He also described Police and Sugar Hill Gang hits as simply Walking and Rapper, with all these mistakes he would be driving viewers up the wall
December 5, 201410 yr just watched the extended show, I enjoyed some of the more obscure tracks (again), especially M. Doesn't Marianne look young and gorgeous! Note that Lemmy is giving it some precognition for Obama - no, honestly, he does, just listen, It's Obama, it's Obama. he knew.... The Saturn V rocket in the Police video is indoors now, held up, and you can walk underneath it. It's HUGE! Simon Bates was so old-fashioned he should have gone straight onto Radio 2 at the time, just so I wouldn't have had to endure Our Tune when I should have been writing essays instead of complaining at the radio. I'm into Pink Floyd at the moment, a bit late in the day, apart from Brick In The Wall, but got there in the end...
December 5, 201410 yr Author Bates did look rather uncomfortable. It was almost as if the Three Degrees were the only act he knew anything about.
December 10, 201410 yr Is the TOTPs Xmas episode for 1979 on this yr or is there a certain person presenting it?
December 10, 201410 yr Author This says that it was presented by David Jensen and Peter Powell http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/schedules/bbcon...ndon/1979-12-25
December 10, 201410 yr Wow that's a great feature - I looked at loadsa stuff lol.fun how the 2/3pm Slots are still the same on Xmas day! Glad it's on, best one of the year and then the new year brings the review if the 1980 shows!
December 11, 201410 yr Author Here we go then for the last regular programme from the 1970s. David Bowie over the chart gets us off to a better start than normal (although UKIP’s Mike Read wasn’t what we need). And our first studio performers are Fiddler’s Dram. Nonsense of course, but mostly harmless. On to Wings and one of Macca’s Christmas efforts. No frogs on this one. The Tourists next with their brilliant take on Dusty. I wonder if their tourism exploits ever took them to Bangor. Abba now have a dream. I don’t care what people think but this is one of my favourite Abba songs. Oh, we didn’t get much of that. Time for another cover with The Beat doing Smokey Robinson. And doing it rather well. Status Quo are next on. Presumably they had session musicians playing on this one as it eschews their usual chords. Obviously a low budget for this as a large part of Greta Britain is missing. Time for this week’s totally forgotten track in the form of The Inmates. Who? Back to some quality with Blondie. The Pretenders next. That means two successive bands who I saw live in 1979! The Barron Knights have been cut. It just gets better, doesn’t it? And so we come to the last number one of the 1970s and what a way to end the decade. The mighty Pink Floyd ending the decade in style. Sadly we get Rose Royce over the end credits but a decent show for the most part.
December 11, 201410 yr Abba now have a dream. I don’t care what people think but this is one of my favourite Abba songs. Oh, we didn’t get much of that. There exists a version of this song recorded by me when I was 10 when I wanted to apply for apply for a CBBC singing contest (spoiler - I didn't get on). My mum insists on digging out the CD every few months, much to my embarrassment.

January 2, 201510 yr Author Two great programmes on BBC4 tonight to prepare us for 1980. There was also a reminder that TOTP was off-air for a couple months because of a strike so there will be a bit of a gap. Still, there are lots of musical memories coming up for me.

There was also a reminder that TOTP was off-air for a couple months because of a strike so there will be a bit of a gap. Still, there are lots of musical memories coming up for me. Enjoyed the two shows last night. Love the Fern Kinney No.1 one-hit wonder which I bought. Edited January 3, 201510 yr by Common Sense
January 3, 201510 yr yes i remember being cruelly denied TOTP videos around the time of Xanadu and Use It Up Wear It Out just as I was finishing my degree/college course, and then it coming back just as Winner Takes It All was about to drop and Ashes To Ashes put pop videos and New Romantics firmly on the map. I was mad on that video and record. Fortunately my chart rundowns will fill in the gaps :yahoo:
January 3, 201510 yr Author Enjoyed the two shows last night. Love the Fern Kinney No.1 one-hit wonder which I bought. The Fern Kinney song was one of the ones I skipped!
January 3, 201510 yr it seemed as though if their hadnt of been a strike there would have been no change to the format, It is Much better from august when you can see the crowd and they look as if their enjoying themselves instead of looking like their being bored to tears... Piranahs Tom Hark is my guilty pleasure  Edited January 3, 201510 yr by fiesta
January 3, 201510 yr The Fern Kinney song was one of the ones I skipped! LOL. That and Coward Of The County are my two fave No.1's from 1980!
January 3, 201510 yr Piranahs Tom Hark is my guilty pleasure  Yes it's a great catchy tune and was a cover of an original recording by 'Elias and His Zig Zag Jive Flutes' in 1958 (a band led by Jack Lerole).
January 6, 201510 yr Tom Hark can't be a guilty pleasure. it's just too fab. My guilty pleasure comes in the form of a #1 from May that year 4gO7uemm6Yo And no I don't love it just because the Manic Street Preachers covered it.
