Great to see Hungary top 5 and Norway top 10! I knew Hungary were right near the top at the start but didn't realise they had held up so well the whole time, after a while I was only noticing Austria/Netherlands doing well and UK flopping. <3

And three words to undo it.. Andrew Lloyd Webber ;)

Jade solo wouldn't have been half as successful and I love that song.

But, why would Andrew Lloyd Webber draw people into vote despite the UK being hated, yet Adele wouldn't draw people in?

Poland 14th :cheer:

Both UK and Ireland placed it last in the jury votes and first in the tele vote!

It's a UK thing.

I genuinely feel like there's a disconnect with the UK and the rest of Europe.

2009 & 2011 were the result of a hugely successful name and promotional tour (Webber) and a previously moderately successful career in Europe (Blue)

I'm at a party right now, we all get together and have a Eurovision party every year.. Giving it the benefit if the doubt.

But there's only so much snubbing we can take.

Regardless of tastes, you can not say that out of all 26 songs, the UK's song deserved 17th. It was a snub.

I'm not throwing the 'political' argument around because we flopped.

There are a few people backtracking, after thinking Molly would do well, to avoid the argument.

"Looking back, it wasn't that great" etc. Hindsight.. Hmm..

NOTHING deserves over another song in a contest like this at all. Each and every song deserves it place, so saying a country deserves ___ compared to ___ is just subjective.

Because ALW is a hugely respected composer who is adored the world over.

Adele is a British balladeer.

I'm happy for Austria winning. The song is growing on me a little even though it wasn't one of my favourites and Conchita performed it very well. Delighted to see the Netherlands up there.

About the UK, I liked the performance overall but I thought there was something weird about the camera work. Sometimes it seemed off centre and lacking impact.

In all fairness, without sounding like a typical "it's political" Brit because I hate that, we should just give up. Or Maybe try a classy ballad like Jade Ewen again, worked for Austria obviously, plus Sweden and to a lesser extent Norway.

I don't think it's a great idea to make a song with the mindset of copying songs that have done well in previous years. That's just asking Europe to give you a resounding "Meh". Best case scenario Europe's taste will have just moved on, worst case scenario the juries will actively penalize your song for being a blatant copycat or trying to cash in on what was popular in the previous contest.

I agree with this. Germany using this tactic when sending Cascada didn't do them any favours at all.

Juries really dragged Poland down :(

I'm just really gutted for Molly for the most of it. She produced a really good song and has clearly been trying to break the music industry for several years now. This was a huge risk for her to take on and, while she probably still wouldn't have carved a strong career out of it, she now looks like another failure and gets lumped amongst the hideous entries of Engleburt/Bonnie/Scooch/Andy/Daz/Josh etc
Devastated for poor Molly :(, I had a feeling we’d struggle to make the top ten, but to finish in 17th place is ridiculous! :nocheer:
We'll find out tonight whether the televoting was in our favour or not, it was 3 years ago (but the juries weren't), if it wasn't this year, then I think the bottom line is, people didn't like the song as much as we do. Ireland do poorly every year but I don't believe it's a politics thing, people just don't care for their songs. I just hope we continue sending inspired songs and musicians as we have this year because it is the right route to take and it will strike lucky for us at some point if we keep trying. I think sometimes we just expect points to fall into our laps because WE ARE THE ALMIGHTY UNITED KINGDOM. Do I think Conchita would've won representing the UK tonight? Absolutely.

And lets not forget they got a surprise top 10 just three years ago! It's not like any country is immune from points.

And France this year (although I did like both Cascada and Twin Twin ). I knew France were going to do badly but only two points! OUCH.

Precisely, because people evidently took to their song! When we've come 5th only 5 years ago and top 5 in the televoting 3 years ago - there just seems like no justification to me for people saying "nobody will ever vote for us". They will, if they care enough for the song.

was the live performance that bad? (Twin Twin)

How iconic were Alcazar by the way, loved that Blame It On The Disco plug *.*

Can't believe I didn't get the Dutch entry before this week either, utterly gorgeous. I sort of wrote it off after two listens and never went back. And I was wrong because it's a grower and the performance was so good.

No! It was better than I thought it was going to be. But Europe just didn't care apparently.

A hugely respected British balladeer who is adored the world over, with resounding success around the world.

All this 'We couldn't even win it with X' or it'd take 'X + Y collaborating with Z to even make an impact' talk is just rubbish. Look at what worked for Conchita, media hype. What worked for the Common Linnets was being completely different to everything else in the competition. Which makes people place them first in their rankings, which means they vote.

With the best will in the world, none of our entries of late have come close to either of those, and what has worked for winners of late has never been sending big names in the music industry.

Precisely. It doesn't matter if 85% of people thought it was awful if the other 15% loved it and voted for it. If the viewers vote was based on ranking the top ten the result could have been very different. However, that would probably mean voting online and not generating income so it won't happen.

Also, can I please make a point that when the songs were put to the OGAE, Molly came 5th when all points were scored.

Not that it set anything in stone, but that's a clear showing that out of a network of 40 Eurovision fan clubs, the UK song was one of the favourites.

So it's not really about having a bad song or bad performance on the night.

Of course, this is subjective. But those numbers aren't my opinion, it's the opinion of thousands of people.

We had a great effort and Molly put on a great show. There's not much more we can do.
