As much as you want it to be,the rush release had nothing to do with Katy.

I know ! Just like Katy announcing her comeback just after Gaga had nothing to do with Gaga ! But yet at the time Little Monsters had harsh words agaisn't Katy for making the announcement around the same time. That's what I'm pointing out, that's all.

On another note Applause is doing superb as expected, but I think #1 on the Hot 100 is a bit out of reach this week,it should debut at #3!!!!

I'm not sure what's goiung with it on streaming? Surely it's #1 there????

I agree, so it's really pissing me off that Katy releasing ahead of Gaga means 'she's only doing it because of Gaga', yet when Gaga happens to release a few days after Katy... NOTHING. So hypocritical.

If anything, Katy releasing ahead of Gaga was her trying to avoid competition. If Gaga hadn't released early, Katy would have got her week and Gaga would have got her week.

LOL, some of you are reaching hard. Gaga's single is not bombing and it's obvious she "couldn't wait till the official release week" like Katy Perry did 'cause Katy's song leaked on Saturday afternoon, less than 2 days before the release week, while Gaga's Applause leaked a full week in advance.
What is going on in this thread? Can people please just grow the fuck up and enjoy two solid pop songs. Pathetic.

Not sure if anyone's noticed, but Luke Bryan is on the verge of overtaking Blurred Lines :o .

That's 3 songs ahead of Robin Thicke.

Who'd have that thought that could happen this time last week  .

Looks like Katy is gonna beat Gaga after all, quite an achievement :o

Assuming the iTunes pop bars are a 48 hour rolling chart, IF Gaga's sales were on par with 'Roar', she should match Katy by 5am UK time tonight, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

So if they had released at the same time, Katy would still have won.

Is it all that shocking though given how insanely big Katy's last era was in the US? This is basically her Born This Way single doing what Gaga's did after her most successful era. I expect Katy could be looking to get the #1 officially soon and staying there for a while.
Everyone always overstimates Gaga's popularity online. She's not as popular as her little monsters would like to think she is.

'Applause' is no longer in the red y'all! :cheer:

And like Haus says, 'Roar' is basically Katy's 'Born This Way' so just give Gaga a break damnit she's doing superb!

It's painfully simple: Katy's songs are very radio friendly and appeal to an extremely wide audience. One look at her remarkable collection of top 5 hits on the Hot 100 confirms this. They work on a number of different radio formats. Gaga was on the same track with The Fame (Monster) but has since moved in a less radio-friendly direction musically.

They're both extremely popular artists and the rivalry between them was invented by marketing people who have watched it work a thousand times before: Britney vs. Christina, Backstreet vs. 'NSync, Debbie Gibson vs. Tiffany, etc. It sells records, and the kids keep falling for it!

I really don't get why GaGa challenged Kay PErry :S

I wanted both of them to get no.1.

And I don't get why she thought she could challenge Katy after how big she was last era, her singles success in the US is unmatched by anyone but Adele.

Gutted 'Same Love' wasn't the huge hit I wanted it to be. It's slipping on airplay and now out of the top 10 on iTunes so will probably be stuck with an #11 peak (not that anyone cares about a song that isn't Roar or Applause).

Look at the top two man!
