Posted May 18, 201411 yr This week's ramblings are now available from the front page and the latest news box.
May 18, 201411 yr Nitpicks of the week, the 5SOS and Ed Sheeran tracks in this week's chart are both not singles (granted you didn't actually refer to the 5SOS track as a single so you could nitpick that nitpick if you so wish). I'm sure it was unintentional but your sentence about The Janoskians is very nearly a reference to where their name comes from - it's an acronym for 'Just Another Name Of Silly Kids In Another Nation' (with an 's' at the end)
May 18, 201411 yr Michael Jackson becomes only the 8th Act to have as many as 10, (or more), UK No.1 Albums. He is also be only the 5th Solo Artist to achieve it - & the 4th Male Solo Artist to do so. THE ARTISTS WITH THE MOST UK No.1 ALBUMS (To W/E 24th May 2014) (Weeks At No.1 in Brackets) 1) BEATLES - 15 (174W) 2) MADONNA - 12 (30W) 3)=ELVIS PRESLEY - 11 (63W) 3)=ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 11 (34W) 5)=THE ROLLING STONES - 10 (45W) 5)=MICHAEL JACKSON - 10 (31W) 5)=BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - 10 (16W) 5)=U2 - 10 (15W) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ THE ACTS WITH THE MOST UK No.1 WEEKS (Singles & Albums Combined) (To W/E 24th May 2014) ( S = Singles No.1 Weeks & A = Albums No.1 Weeks) 01) BEATLES - 69 (S) + 174 (A) = 243 Weeks 02) ELVIS PRESLEY - 80 (S) + 63 (A) = 143 Weeks 03) ABBA - 31 (S) + 57 (A) = 88 Weeks 04) CLIFF RICHARD - 46 (S) + 30 (A) = 76 Weeks 05) ROLLING STONES - 18 (S) + 45 (A) = 63 Weeks 06) MADONNA - 29 (S) + 30 (A) = 59 Weeks 07) TAKE THAT - 28 (S) + 28 (A) = 56 Weeks 08) ELTON JOHN - 23 (S) + 29 (A) = 52 Weeks 09) MICHAEL JACKSON - 16 (S) + 31 (A) = 47 Weeks 10) ROD STEWART - 18 (S) + 28 (A) = 46 Weeks NOTE - THE SHADOWS would be in 4th place if we add their credited No.1 Weeks with Cliff Richard to their No.1 Weeks as The Shadows. They had 28 No.1 Singles Weeks with Cliff, & 21 No.1 Albums Weeks with him. Giving them 44 No.1 Singles Weeks & 42 No.1 Albums Weeks = 86 No.1 Weeks. If we remove their No.1 Weeks with Cliff, we get them on 16 No.1 Singles Weeks & 21 No.1 Albums Weeks = 37 No.1 Weeks. Which puts them in 15th place. (I keep 2 Sets of Lists. One Set I call Non-Contentious, where The Shadows do not get any No.1 Weeks with Cliff Richard, & the Bee Gees do not get the 18 No.1 Weeks from the 'Saturday Night Fever' Soundtrack. The other Set I call Contentious, as I do add the Cliff Richard & The Shadows No.1 Weeks to The Shadows No.1 Weeks, & I do add the 18 No.1 Weeks from 'Saturday Night Fever',(1978), to the Bee Gees No.1 Weeks). @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ And Rita Ora equals the 4 UK No.1 Singles of Geri Halliwell, & they are the UK Female 'Solo' Artists with the most No.1 Singles. THE 'SOLO' (CREDITED) FEMALES WITH THE MOST UK No.1 SINGLES (To W/E 24th May 2014) (Weeks At No.1 In Brackets) A) Madonna - 13 (29 Weeks) B) Rihanna - 8 (24 Weeks) C) Kylie Minogue - 7 (16 Weeks) D) Britney Spears - 6 (8 Weeks) E) Beyoncé - 5 (10 Weeks) F)=Whitney Houston - 4 (16 Weeks) F)=Lady GaGa - 4 (10 Weeks) F)=Katy Perry - 4 (10 Weeks) F)=Christina Aguilera - 4 (7 Weeks) F)=Geri Halliwell - 4 (5 Weeks) F)=Rita Ora - 4 (5 Weeks)

May 18, 201411 yr I only make 9 #1 albums for Michael Jackson? 1982 01 Thriller 1987 01 Bad 1991 01 Dangerous 1995 01 HIStory - Past, Present And Future - Book I 1997 01 Blood On The Dance Floor - HIStory In The Mix 2001 01 Invincible 2003 01 Number Ones 2005 01 The Essential Michael Jackson 2014 01 Xscape Have I made a silly oversight or did you just count 'Number Ones' twice?
May 18, 201411 yr Bre - You've missed out his 1983 No.1 '18 Greatest Hits' which was credited to Michael Jackson Plus The Jackson 5. It contained 8 of Michael's Solo Hits & 10 Hits by the Jackson 5. The OCC also count it as a Michael No.1. It is counted as a No.1 Album for both Acts. http://www.officialcharts.com/artist/_/michael%20jackson/ It was No.1 for 3 Weeks. So that is where I get his 10th No.1 Album from.

So that is where I get his 10th No.1 Album from. This album seems to be bizarrely absent from the Chartstats archive - I've looked up the relevant weeks in the archive data and it does not list a #1 at all for those 3 weeks, starting at #2. The album also seems to be missing from all its other weeks in the chart. Weird! I have amended this in the album chart post in the chart thread.

May 19, 201411 yr Dobbo - In 1974 there was never a Week when all 4 ESC Hits were in the Top 40 at the same time. In the Download Era a Single does not need to be in UK Stores to be a Hit. In 1974 they could only be Hits if they were in UK Stores. It took a few Weeks for all 4 Entries to be in the Shops at the same time. They were all in the Top 50 on W/E 4th May - ABBA at No.1, Mouth And MacNeal at No.43, Gigliola at No.46, & Olivia Newton-John at No.49. As Olivia's was the UK Entry it had already been in the Top 50 for 8 Weeks by then. Its No.49 Position was its final UK Chart Week. The remaining 3 ESC Hits from 1974 were first in the Top 40 together on W/E 18th May - ABBA at No.2, Gigliola at No.22, & Mouth And MacNeal at No.29. They never managed to be in the Top 10 together, but they were all in the Top 20 at the same time on W/E 25th May - ABBA at No.6, Gigliola at No.16, & Mouth And MacNeal at No.18. And again on W/E 1st June - Gigliola at No.8, Mouth And MacNeal at No.12, & ABBA at No.15. So W/E 24th May 2014 is the first time that as many as 4 ESC Entries have been in the UK Top 40 at the same time. Edited May 19, 201411 yr by zeus555
