June 10, 201412 yr Raleigh!! :o really hope there's a chance he can stay top 40 come Sunday. ARGH did not see this coming but so happy <33 And Little Mix top 5 is equally as fab to see. Good week (y)
June 10, 201412 yr I am mega surprised at how Ella's song is doing. I honestly thought it was peak around #11-15 especially since the radio airplay hasn't been high and I haven't seen any promotion. I don't even think it's that good, the chorus is catchy, but the verses let the song down. Edit: Just seen that she sang on Britain's Got Talent, that's why the song's doing well! To be fair, I think she was heading for #1 even without BGT, but that definitely helped her get these incredible sales :D
June 10, 201412 yr 'Ghost' was quite obviously a massive hit from the moment it premiered IMO, if not before that. It would have been hard for Syco to mess up the first single by someone as massively popular as her (although they did with Matt Cardle I guess, but it was clear very early on that 'Ghost' is not a 'Run For Your Life').
June 10, 201412 yr Those sales for Ella is just amazing, I wasn't really expecting 65k on the first mids especially for a debut artist which has taken her time to release material. Her sales will probably start decreasing to something like 12k to 10k per day or even less will get a better picture tomorrow, I would estimate around 130k+ "Goes and tweets her" :D
June 10, 201412 yr Fantastic for Ella. I've said it before but this success is mainly down to the quality of the song, not her BGT performance or her profile/popularity before it premiered. Syco have done an excellent job with marketing her and I disagree that it was an easy task considering she was on X Factor so long ago. She's won over a huge number of casual fans with 'Ghost' and her first single could have easily been only a moderate success had another song been pushed instead. Excellent start for Kasabian in the albums there. :D I think they should do around 55-60k come Sunday. I really don't know much about Kasabian or this album campaign, but surely they're not that front-loaded, right? I would have thought they're likely to double their sales and end up at over 70k? Absolutely great first day sales anyway. And it looks like Coldplay's album will hold on at #2, Jack White to end up at #4 (as I imagine Passenger will hold up much better over the week). Sam could possibly overtake both to nab the #3 spot, although probably too early to tell. Edited June 10, 201412 yr by Noahspike
June 10, 201412 yr Yeah I agree that it wasn't gonna be a particularly easy task for her, I mean, she only came sixth in her series and she left it longer than several people that year did (James, Jahmene, Union J, even Christopher Maloney and District3 had something out before her lol).
June 10, 201412 yr Is there a reason She Looks So Perfect is climbing so much despite being #41 on iTunes?
June 10, 201412 yr Sam could possibly overtake both to nab the #3 spot, although probably too early to tell. I would say that's highly unlikely unless he has promo lined up for the week, they aren't exactly neck and neck. EDIT: Oh ignore me I thought you were saying he would overtake Coldplay :P Yeah he might possibly overtake Jack and Passenger actually. A #5 debut wouldn't look good for Jack after his first solo album got to #1 :o
June 10, 201412 yr BGT was 2 weeks before the launch of Ghost, so sure it helped pre-orders but didnt help THAT much; and nor did her only other TV appearance on Lorraine. In fact her promo has been patchy, with the odd Ghosttrail thing dragging on for weeks! In the end it's the quality of the song (her vocal) and the video- the package that has done the job here. and rumours are there are some even better singles to come....
June 10, 201412 yr Is there a reason She Looks So Perfect is climbing so much despite being #41 on iTunes? EP is also top 100 right now. It was up to around #32 on iTunes the other day, boosted by them supporting 1D at Wembley Stadium I believe (Don't Stop also saw a big increase with its pre-order).
June 10, 201412 yr Ghost sounds like a massive hit from a first listen - I wouldn't be surprised if it made it into the top 10 sellers of the year. Airplay is only just starting to pick up for it now - I'm sure Radio 1 will A-list it next week. And it's the kind of song, like Happy, that fits into a great deal of radio playlists, Radio 1, Radio 2, Heart, Capital, Kiss, etc.
June 10, 201412 yr In the end it's the quality of the song (her vocal) and the video- the package that has done the job here. I do absolutely love 'Ghost' and the appeal (less subjective term than 'quality') is certainly a factor in it being as big a hit as it's set to be, but it's pretty deluded IMO to think that it's selling 100k+ because it's a good song and not because she's the girl that everyone loved from the X Factor, it would never have got near the attention it has without that.
June 10, 201412 yr No Janet in the top 40? Seems weird as she has over 4,000 pledgers on Pledge Music that will have all received the album this week which would have easily seen her into the top 40, particularly at this stage. What am I missing - Janet who?
June 10, 201412 yr Good to see at least a decent start for Jack White. Even if he ends up at #5 it should be on well over 20k. Kasabian should be fine for 60k given I don't think their pre-orders won't weren't that huge.
June 10, 201412 yr Well done Ghost, greta pop track, aul Ryan Tedder sure can write a great chorus :). Actually thought she would have sold closer to 160k this week but maybe that was going over the top considering its airplay position, could maintain its sales over the next month though. Well done Kasabian also, should do around 70k by Sunday which would be great!
June 10, 201412 yr What am I missing - Janet who? Janet Devlin (from X Factor the year before Ella, as if the wait for music from Ella wasn't long enough).
June 10, 201412 yr Janet Devlin (from X Factor the year before Ella, as if the wait for music from Ella wasn't long enough). I was assuming "Janet" would be Janet Jackson!
June 10, 201412 yr Great for Dolly and nice to see the brilliant Tapestry in there, after the BBC4 documentary about Carole King on Friday. You younger Buzzjackers, give it a listen, used to be known as the student bedsit album of the early 70's.
