So glad that Charlie XCX has been added! Really am starting to love Boom Clap!

Was hoping for Rixton to move upto B-list this week, fingers crossed for next week.

I don't see why they are not supporting Nicole tbh she is a relatively big name in the UK now and with radio support Your Love would probably go to number 1
CHARLI XCX! Best add in weeks!
Kooks off already :(

Glad they're still supporting Lily Allen, despite the poor performance of 'Our Time' :)

I shouldn't be surprised they've actually A-listed the Example single... and yet I am!

They REALLY need to drop 'Sing' now, it's been on the playlist forever

How many weeks it been there?

Great to see Headlights in the A list, good to see his continued relevance 16 years later. Love the song! But urgh at Milky Chance not moving up - it could stop its progress into the top 40!!

I assume Banks will get into the main playlist with the single before the album in sept!

Her release date is July 21st so if they're going to playlist her it'll be next week.

Great to see Charli, Ella and Lily added. Hopefully Ariana will at least be A List for release week!

They won't snub Cheryl, especially as Radio 1 are obssesed with anything featuring Tinie Tempah!

Great to see Kove getting support, this is growing on me now

Nicole getting snubbed again. Is it because of her age?

Which would be ridiculous since Sia is 38 and playlisted. Radio 1 using this "age" excuse to not playlist certain acts is complete nonsense on their part.

It might be because of age. OR it might be because the song is shit. the things we'll probably never know ~

It is nothing to do with the age of the artist, they don't playlist acts that they deem to appeal to an older *audience* (and AFAIA this is something they are required to do). They obviously don't think Nicole will appeal to their audience. Whether or not this was the right call is something else but they didn't snub it solely because she's over 30 (as Sia being playlisted proves).

'Your Love' is probably too "cookie-cutter pop" for Radio 1, age and decreasing relevancy may be small factors, but the main one is that R1 don't think the song caters for their target audience.

The sole reason why is because it's her, she's a blacklisted artist and has been for 3 years.

I think it's fair to say anything she releases will not stand a chance of being playlisted by Radio 1...

I agree, it's fair to assume she won't ever release anything that isn't "cookie cutter pop". I don't necessarily agree with this reason to snub songs but it's not anything personal against her, R1 just don't consider her music to be appropriate for their listener base.

The music that people complain constantly about R1 snubbing is almost all covered by Capital which is arguably more important to the charts these days anyway.

I'm in agreement with Aly. I remember reading a piece recently about their playlist formula and it basically said "We playlist what we like". I think it's pretty clear that they've decided they DON'T like Nicole, and for whatever reason that started with 'Wet' (perhaps they didn't appreciate the 'Only Girl' rip off?). I think it was obvious 'Try With Me' and 'Boomerang' wouldn't appeal to them too, though I can't speak about 'Your Love' (haven't listened).

I really don't think the ageism argument works, particularly here. Nicole isn't old, nor is she generally seen as old (she's only actually been a relevant solo artist since 2010, after all). I think it is just a case of them not liking her and her music.

They should allow the public to choose one song of about five to be playlisted each week, could make things a little less biased.
Not sure why it is SUCH a bad thing to playlist pop songs anyway?!

It isn't, and Radio 1 know that. Rixton and 5 Seconds Of Summer are playlisted, and The Saturdays had three songs on the playlist last year. Thermo's analysis isn't right.

It's very true though that the public are moving more towards the dance scene, which is reflected in Radio 1's playlist perfectly among other genres such as the increasing rock scene in my opinion.

Radio 1 do a very good job and they have a lot of producers from shows who specialise in different music genres on the playlist. I'm not sure a public vote would change anything at all, as the type of people who listen to Radio 1 go for more critically acclaimed music and more popular music, such as 5 Seconds Of Summer and One Direction for pop. That's it.
