What is it?? Wasn't their new single released last week?

Probably an instant grat.

Another instant grat! :P

The iTunes chart is becoming increasingly irritating to monitor these days with the instant grats that don't contribute officially, and will become even less important to chart-watchers in a couple of weeks when streaming kicks in. For the first time in years we won't be able to tell almost exactly what the chart will look like on Sunday from looking at iTunes!

Which is a good thing, no?

Which is a good thing, no?

Definitely a good thing for chart-watchers as it will make things less predictable.

Just saying that the iTunes chart is such a mess now that it's not enjoyable to follow anymore. These Ed/5SOS songs aren't getting to the top of the iTunes chart on merit of their actual popularity as single tracks, but to outsiders it probably looks as though they are. The Ed songs probably sold about 5-10k each as single track downloads last week and these are the only sales that should be reflected in the live updates imo but I guess they haven't devised a way to separate the source of the sales.

Where did that 5 Seconds Of Summer track come from and there is a second version of it  seriously the iTunes chart is one big mess.

Once you take those instant grats out, the actual singles are a hell lot higher.

Perhaps any album that has instant grats taken from it, should have its first week's download sales made ineligible - that'd soon end the practice... :teresa: ;)

Ella coming back for #1 please!

Yes please! :D Although I'm not as eager for her to get it again as I was last week, I would much prefer it.

Ouch at 'Tremor' only scraping the top 40. Of course, the Ed Sheeran chart manipulation isn't helping it, but I knew they shouldn't have released it. 'Gold Skies' can and will get Garrix another top 10 smash though
Its probably best Ghost bows out gracefully this week (rather than outstaying its welcome) and Ella can get on with sorting out a slaying single 2... Empire by all accounts...

Surely that's a good thing. "Back in the days", the midweeks and the charts were really exciting because they were full of surprises and sometimes unpredictable. Nowadays you can say where a song is going to chart by its position on Itunes by Sunday evening. :(

You just know that every 'big' artist with a strong digital fanbase coming back this year is taking notes and are gonna do this constant instant grat releasing every day up until the album or something similar :drama: I do wish iTunes could find a way to make them not appear on the feed, it would definitely make it a lot easier to read. If I wasn't on this forum, I wouldn't have a clue what's going on.

What does Michelle Williams have to do to achieve a big hit, it just seem its ever going to happen for her as a solo artist in the UK.

Firstly, releasing a song about praising Jesus isn't exactly going to be a chart smash and get radio on board, even with Beyoncé on it.

gecko looks likely to be the first no1 in a while not to have topped the iTunes chart~
