Judging from his record at Stoke I wouldn't want to trust Pulis with anything resembling a large sum of money either. He's fantastic at what he does, but he constantly wasted money in the transfer market. Have Stoke made a profit on a player he signed yet?

He signed a load of overpriced average PL players. I'd agree with that, but in his defence Palace have been rather slow to sign players. I think Kelly is a good signing for them though if they keep him fit.

United doing what Arsenal did this time last year. Badly in need of more defensive reinforcements.

Wonderful start to the season.

We need 2 centre backs I reckon, Vidal and Di Maria would be champion inclusions and Fellaini MUST go.

Di Maria, Hummels, Vidal? Sorry but they have no chance of getting those players unless they offer obscene wages and it's a huge risk because if they miss out on the Champions League this season they will be making a massive business loss paying those wages.

I don't know who leaks what to the press, but they did the same last summer too, going for targets they were never going to get. I think they have a chance of Di Maria, but attack is the least of Man Utd's worries. Hummels absolutely no chance. Fact is Man Utd have too many average players playing for a big club. de Gea, Rooney, Herrera, Jones, Van Persie, Mata, Januzai are the types of calibre of players they need. Fellaini unless you play him as a #10 is useless. They've no chance of anything higher than 4th, and even then it would take a momentous f*** up from Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea or Liverpool because right now their squads and depth are miles apart.

Arsenal was so lucky scoring both of their goals in extra time, mind you the Crystal Palace goal I didn't see that coming. Good start for Arsenal at least they didn't lose their opening game like they did last year against Aston Villa. I think Arsenal are looking for a league title this year.

They got slightly lucky, but good result for them whilst missing a couple of key players. Don't think they will be winning the league with Sanogo as a striker though..

Whether they were missing a couple key players or not they should be doing better than scraping a win against Crystal Palace.

Palace were obviously using the Pulis tactics, of playing for a draw and holding out for a win. Arsenal can't play very well against teams that park the bus. I think they will do well this year, just all depends on whether they can keep their injury prone players fit. But you you would expect them to beat Palace at home regardless. The rest for Arsenal will be against the top teams.

Arsenal desperately need players like Giroud and Walcott for playing teams like Palace. That was still essentially Pulis' team too, they've been coached by him all summer and played like he was still there.

Agree. They've got Walcott, Ozil, Poldolski, Mertesacker still to come in to the fold. I think they will do well. Like Liverpool, Arsenal struggled to find much fluidity and rhythm, although it's my suspicion that it will be about 8-10 games in before we see the best of both teams, purely because I think they're trained to peak fitness wise later in the season. I think the top 4 will all be really close to the title again, but Man City just have too much imo. It's surprising seeing everyone tip Chelsea to do well, on the basis of signing Fabregas and Costa. Interested to see how they do this evening.

That second goal was a thing of beauty. They seem to have corrected the most glaring flaws of last season, will be interesting to see how it works against big teams.

Or you could say it's a good trait to be able to win whilst playing badly

Same goes for Liverpool. One of the poorer performances at Anfield in recent times. Stringing even a few passes together was made to look difficult

Hard to judge teams from the first game, but watching Man United lose was quite amusing after all talk of the 'Van Gaal factor'. Shows that there is still work to be done and as it stands they won't just stroll back into the top 4 this season

United had a fair few injuries (Shaw, Rafael, Valencia, Carrick, Van Persie and Welbeck off the top of my head) but the game on Saturday just showed how thin their squad is. Rojo is a great addition but they need another player. Blind?

They're miles off of the top four though. Rojo is a loose cannon. Certainly not what they need to stern their defence, although he's another body. Although he is the caliber of player they should be targeting, instead of Hummels. Just so many average players. Even Mata looks completely lost.

The depth of your squad last year was probably even worse, but you'd have been top four contenders even without Suarez because your first XI was good, stayed fit and didn't play as many games. I'm doubtful that United will make it but I wouldn't expect them to be far off if they make one or two more signings of that calibre.

Oh don't get me wrong I think they will be much closer, because I expect they will actually hold on to leads etc.

But there's just so much dross in their squad. Their first XI is very average. Nani, Valencia, Fletcher, Smalling, Hernandez, Cleverly, Young, Fellaini should be nowhere near their starting XI.

The fear factor from Old Trafford has completely gone. I think they will have a lot of days like Swansea this year. It's just stupid because even if van Gaal does not make an immediate impact the fans will be calling for his head. I don't think a lot of Man United fans realise how much of a rebuild they need, on and off the field.

I was unsure where to post this, but I think it's more relevant to the Premier League?

What do we all think to the Malky Makay stuff that's just come out in the press? Hard to think Vincent Tan could end up being the good guy in all of this.
