3. Calvin Harris - Blame

Doing amazingly well! Should easily go to #1 with streaming like this

All About That Bass is #18 but will drop out soon as it's been made unavailable :drama:

^ Wow, that's amazing how fast Blame has climbed.

It's only been a couple of months and the record labels have already worked out how to make streaming front-loaded.

tbh the advertising has probably cost them an arm and a leg, im not sure if all labels can do that for all their artists every week or so

im really glad it should be the #1 now, he really has been on top form for years now.

The release of Blame really has been handled brilliantly. I hope more record companies do the same or at least do on air on stream.

Yeah, I talked about it in the iTunes thread, but this song has had a promotion campaign greater than many held-back songs imo. Even if the song didn't premiere until recently, it's been promoted for ages, even having TV adverts for the pre-order (which must have cost a lot of money).

There is no way this release strategy will become normal. Even Taylor Swift's latest single didn't have that kind of pre-release promotion. People might be fine with it now as Calvin is pretty liked by most people, but if One Direction were doing this and pulling out all the stops to debut at #1 then I bet people would be annoyed.

I agree, I think it's about time the record companies stopped using pre orders and held back releases and follow Calvin's example.

Obviously it won't work for every artist but I think this is the way forward!

Also I don't get why that Bass track has been pulled when Magic and Nico and Vinz where all charting on streams. Though it wouldn't surprise me if someone's removed this to prevent it from becoming the first track to go top 40 on streams alone to let 1D break another record...

They don't have a new single right now. Not entirely sure what they have to do with anything in this discussion anyway...

Who cares if its front loaded if its available immediately and isnt losing out on sales to illegal downloads!

OMG CALVIN!!!!!! TAKE THAT NUMBER 1!!!!!!!! Just don't fall on ITUNES please!

It's not really a bad thing, but it means there's less incentive for record labels to release songs for streaming early (like with Rude or Am I Wrong). If they've now found a way to be able to get to #3 on Spotify after just a couple of days, what's the point in putting songs early for streaming anymore (from the perspective of trying to debut as high as possible)? Before there was an incentive to put songs for streaming early since it usually takes a couple of weeks at least to get that high, but now if they can replicate this and make it commonplace for songs to shoot up the streaming charts instantly then they might not bother releasing them for streaming early anymore.

NOTE: I'm talking purely from a chart perspective.

^ Yeh thats true i didnt think of it like that - it would mean going back to the old order of having apre order and then getting streaming on board on pre order release week which would be a bad thing and in the long run reduce sales when people realise they have to still wait 6 weeks for a song!
Man, Calvin is climbing up fast!!! His worldwide stream number will be huge!!!!
Oh I didn't realise 'Blame' was already doing THAT well on streaming! Guess this will be the first time we'll see a high debut on the official streaming chart (since the change - I'm aware 'Get Lucky' debuted at #1 there).
But the latter has been removed from Spotify - strange!!

only in the UK presumably. I wouldn't be surprised if iTunes asked the company to remove it from spotify in exchange for promo on the iTunes front page, they wouldn't want to lose out sales to people streaming a song before it's available to download.

I hope we don't get to the stage where you'll have to pre-order your right to stream a song but I can imagine it happening soon in order to secure high first-week streaming sales

Yeah I agree, we'll probably end up with a "Remind me to stream" button so that they get some sort of notification that its available to stream at the same time its available on iTunes!

We're already half way there with the 'follow' function which lets you follow an artist, and it'll come up in your notifications every time they release a new song or album
