I remember there was a topic a little while ago that listed the biggest selling song to reach each of the different chart positions in the top ten (and maybe beyond!).

Could some kind soul provide a link to that thread if it still exists?

Thank you very much! :D

Thanks Mikey, but thats not quite what I'm after. I'm looking for the list of songs that peaked at No 1, 2, 3, 4 etc thats sold the most. eg: No.1 is Candle in the Wind, the highest selling No.2 is Wham, No.3 is New Order etc.... Maybe its long gone :(

I also move some topics into the Chart Reference Library forum, so it could be there.

Oooooh it's not :kink:

I have them :smoke:

Biggest selling No.1: Elton John - Something About The Way You Look Tonight / Candle In The Wind 1997

Biggest selling No.2: Wham - Last Christmas

01 - Elton John - Candle In The Wind 97 (4,868,000)

02 - Wham! - Last Christmas (1,450,000)

03 - New Order - Blue Monday (1,001,000)

04 - Robbie Williams - Angels (860,000)

05 - Hmmm confusion here

In 1942, Christmas classic "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby was released which became the second biggest selling single in the world (30 million copies sold). It peaked at #5 in 1977 after Crosby's death and is believed to have sold a million copies (if it has, it has been the million seller taking the longest to achieve the millionth sale - a total of 33 years). It is incredibly likely to have sold a million copies, seeing as it is so popular and has clocked up high sales around the world, but with the inception of the singles chart happening 10 years after the release, we can never be sure. If this is excluded due to uncertainty, "I Love You Because" by Jim Reeves is the biggest selling single to peak at #5. Although total sales are hard to come by, it seems to be the only #5 to have exceeded 750,000 copies with such a high degree of certainty.

06 - Anita Harris - Just Loving You (625,000)

07 - Leann Rimes - How Do I Live (714,000)

Biggest Single Not To Make Top 10 - Steps - 5,6,7,8 (#14) 300,000

what a pity selling 714.000 and making only no.7 and selling 300.000 and getting only at no.14.....

The biggest selling #8 (i think) is Blueboy remember me 310,000

The biggest seller not to make the top 20 is Amazed by lonestar 192,000 peaking at #21.

The biggest seller not to make the top 30 is Evelyn King and shame 250,000 and peaked at #39

I wonder how many Bryan Adams "Summer of 69" sold, I know it only peaked at 42. Presumably there can't be many songs that popular that charted so lowly.
Madonna's "You must love me", biggest selling #10 hit?
Its odd when the chart throws up quirks like this...Darren Hayes Insatiable and XTM's Fly on the wings of love both sold really well and only peaked at No.8, selling more than many No.1's...

The biggest seller not to make the top 20 is Amazed by lonestar 192,000 peaking at #21.

The biggest seller not to make the top 30 is Evelyn King and shame 250,000 and peaked at #39

If those sales are correct, then wouldn't Evelyn King be the biggest selling single not to make the top 20?

Isn't the biggest selling single not o reach the top 40 Eva Cassidy's "Over The Rainbow"?
