Breaking News. Sky News reporting 295 dead and a plume of smoke on the ground. MA says they have lost a passenger aircraft. Early reports say air traffic control in Ukraine mistook the jet for a hostile plane and a surface to air missile was launched to down the plane. :o

There's lots of rumour right now so I think it's best to wait until confirmation if we even get that

 

Some say seperatists and some say the Russians themselves shot the plane down. The Ukrainian minister says it's been hit by a missile too

So sad, but let's wait for some more information before we go throwing out accusations.

 

Right now it does seem very dodgy, with the area the plane has come down over. There's going to be obvious repercussions if anyone was at fault.

Shit! That's really very sad no matter what happened.

 

I hope this isn't a catalyst for anything bigger.

Having a 5* attached to Malaysian Airlines, surely they're going to lose that status soon? People have avoided travelling with the airlines due to the missing flight and barely 5 months after, another crash occurred. I'm not too sure whether the airline can recover from this mess.

It's not even the airlines fault tho.

True but regardless of whether it was the airline's fault or not, a lot of costumers won't be willing to take their life and risk travelling on an airline which has a reputation of containing severe crashes in a short time span.

So sad! :( RIP to all 300+ victims of this disaster.

 

Btw I think it's horrific that people are posting the pictures including dead bodies on the internet. Have some respect for the deceased. Looking beyond this, this could potentially have massive consequences on the Ukraine - Russia crisis too.

So apparently, the pro-Russian separatists have located the blackbox and are sending it to Russia (Moscow) for analysis.

 

We aint getting the truth then if that's the case.

It's negative PR for Malaysian Arlines. It was a complete accident, but obviously their stock rice has completely tumbled and people will be put off them in the short term at least, probably more Westerners though.

 

I'd be unsure of getting the truth at all. It's only the Russian media that are reporting it, and we know their media is censored. Obviously the big issue is where the missiles were supplied from. Even if they were supplied from Russia, that's certainly one for the conspiracy theorists to delve in to!

That's devastating, RIP to all the victims!

 

The fact that the blackbox has been sent to Russia for analysis (we'll never know what happened, right?) is disturbing. On the other hand, I'm not sure if the sides involved in the Ukraine-Russia crisis really 'care' (they'll blame each other indefinitely) about what actually happened :( There's also a screenshot of a tweet from the twitter account of Girkin who informs about shooting down a Ukraine plane or something (it's in Russian, I can't fully understand it) and it was supposedly deleted after it was confirmed that it was an international plane. I don't know. It's really sad! :(

In the meantime, and true to form, Israel has chosen a time when world attention is elsewhere to launch a ground invasion of Gaza. Expect the current figure of over 200 Palestinian deaths (most of them civilians and many of them children) to rise substantially over the coming days.

This is a sad day for the human race. First the airplane, now Israel doing this. I'm calling WW3 now.

I feel uterly disgusted by the fact that several TV channels used the Russian images to show them on TV.

Burned and broken bodies everywhere. There's currently a video circulating on the internet with footage from the aftermath and it's horrible :snif:

A Dutch man apparently about to travel on the doomed Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 made an eerie final Facebook post.

 

Cor Pan posted the following image from Amsterdam's Schipol airport moments before the flight took off at 12:15 pm local time. The caption reads: "If it disappears, this is what it looks like," an apparent reference to the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 in March.
