I know money is the issue, had LFTW and their american career not f'ed up, those are some of the things I would have dreamt to see... but yes, currently it's a long shot to get any of them. I guess Ina has got more expesnive now. Another song with Camille Purcell could go down well too.

Sorry to bring up sore subjects, but I'm a relatively new fan, and an American. At some point in 2013, did they just admit defeat and fly back to the UK for good or something? I have no idea how it went down other than that they didn't end up cracking America.

^Before someone says, it was nothing to do with Rochelle.

It would, yes! Not only is 'What About Us' and '808' amazing, but she has actually written lots for other artists as well and the tracks are usually good. This girl is a queen tbh.

She wrote 'Glow' for Ella Henderson. She's currently a vocal coach on the x-factor.

I wouldn't mind if The Saturdays had a couple of tracks written by Camille, Ina and self penned tracks and have the majority of them produced by Steve Mac.

Albeit poorly concieved, them shelving the Christmas album (especially with the cheapness of such a production) is hardly a good sign for their future.

Unless their cover for that movie does unexpectedly well, I doubt there'll be a sixth album and it'll end up with one of those legendary "shelved" albums, along with the Sugababes 8th record and MKS debut one. :teresa:

Obviously...I don't think anyone saw them having to shelve an album as a good thing?

A Christmas album isn't really cheaper, though... You still have to rent the studio, pay for producers, the song still has to be produced and worked on for a few hours (hell, maybe days?) even if it's a cover, etc. Plus, I guess you have to buy the rights as well in that case? The only difference is that you probably don't have to record 30-40 tracks and only choose 12 in the end. Label/management/whatever probably knows what the covers would be early on, then it's the search for the few exclusive and new Christmas songs, but even then, they wouldn't be recording a lot.

Anyway! Point is, a Christmas album isn't actually that cheaper to produce or anything, it's just an easier sell because people already know the songs (and know if they are good or not) just by the titles and because Christmas albums can be (not always, tho) popular during that time of the year.

I've never believed in the success of their Chrismas album which is why I would rather they release an EP of like 4-5 new (actual) tracks in 2015. It would probably chart at #10 and sell 30k max, but that's 30k for 4 tracks, no 30k for 12 tracks and God knows how many recording time...

Glad to see another American fan join the forum! And glad to see they are still acquiring new fans :kink: Welcome!

They ultimately failed to crack America due to lack of effort. They relied on Chasing The Saturdays and a few promo spots (Jay Leno, Today Show, Wendy Williams) and that's it. They also never sent the song for radio adds or promoted it at any radio stations so airplay never took off. Then Rochelle got pregnant and that was sort of the last nail in the coffin for their America campaign.

Always speaking truth Hurricane. This is why I love you.

Yeah, I did think it was odd that Rochelle just had to be pregnant at that stage

This isn't meant to sound shady at all since I think they're fantastic, but what's their fame/relevancy status in the UK right now? I saw pictures on their Facebook of their tour crowds, and I can't lie, I was a little distraught  blacks curtains abound.

they are reaching the end of their shelf life - it just needs to be seen now if the TV shows (Voice, SCD, CIN, This Morning, STSS etc) will do anything to boost their profile, but with Una having a baby early next year, i can't see there being a new era started till mid/late 2015 by which point they could be completely dead :(

If we went back a year they were really popular. They scored a huge number one and had a reality show which did better here than In the us. Now no one really talks about them since radio have stopped playing their songs

Welcome here Jake! Yes it was odd that the former queen decided to get pregnant, but never mind :kink:

Tour was better than it looked to be fair :P

What??? Do we have any reason for that?

Just my luck  At least I became a fan BEFORE disbandment this time. I discovered Girls Aloud two weeks after they split. :(

What??? Do we have any reason for that?

In a summary :kink:

Well after What About Us went to number one and did excellently, they decided to release Gentleman which did get radio support, but it was minimal. Some people think that killed all major airplay for them as Gentleman, a follow-up to a good #1 only peaked at #14. After that Disco Love was the last song to be supported by BBC radio one which are like the oxygen to pump your music around the UK with Capital like the once wise Robbie Williams said. It only reached B-list on the playlist which means the radio station were planning to drop them afterwards. Thankfully, the song managed to go top 5.

After that, radio one pretty much ignored them and so did the other major radio stations. What Are You waiting for was strongly supported by smaller stations but no big station (Capital, Heat, BBC1 or 2, Heart etc) played it.

While it looks like Radio 1 and Capital are finished with them, I won't be totally convinced until they snub a pure pop track or ballad from them. There isn't going to be room for a song like WAYWF or NGU on the Radio 1 playlist anytime soon but a track like Disco Love could stand a chance.

Capital are pretty fickle and unpredictable when it comes to playlisting and playing songs so I'm not worried about them. If The Sats had a comeback with a good song and there were decent pre-orders/YouTube views/general buzz (unlikely but still) then they'd probably jump on board.

Radio 1 ignored the last two singles but still had them visit the station a bunch of times and had 'Saturdays Day' in August where they played 6 of their singles in one day. As long as they don't do a Robbie/Alexandra/One Direction and insult them or make catty comments about how they're being ignored then they should be safe from being blacklisted completely.

At the moment the only songs that are being played by them is Disco Love and sometimes What About Us. I think they will definitely premiere their songs but as far as playlisting goes we'll have to see. Capital are usually on with the girls so they will support them with a good single and buzz etc.

Thank you! Man, that's unfortunate

@kyleisnotarobot: @popjustice Is anyone good releasing Christmas albums this year? I need another Underneath the Tree sized smash.
@Popjustice: @kyleisnotarobot The Saturdays and The Vamps :/

Is it still happening?

its november 4th.

christmas is 50 sleeps.

its now or never.

i just feel like they banged on about not splitting up during FSGH promo and now they don't do anything as a band :( if they are splitting why not just say and have a boost for the album and a bit of fanfare while *some* people still care!
