Umi's Chart Highlights

  • MAGIC!'s "Rude" tops the Hot 100 for a third week, but does so leading only one of the key components of the chart: On-Demand Songs. It is however by far the most consistent of current hits on other formats, being #2 on Digital Sales, Radio and Streaming Songs.
  • Despite dominating only one format, "Rude" now has a huge lead on all other contenders. Its lead over "Fancy" this week stretches to 15% (last week it was 6%), while its leads over the #3 ("Stay With Me") and #4 ("Am I Wrong") are 16% and 30% respectively.
  • Both "Stay With Me" and "Am I Wrong" made gains on "Rude" this week, with MAGIC! decreasing by 7% in points while Sam gained 1% and Niko & Vinz gained 4%. However, with such a large lead or MAGIC! and with such small gains for both the contenders, it seems unlikely they will catch the #1. The next #1 contender may end up being "Bang Bang"...
  • Niko & Vinz lead the Radio chart for the 4th consecutive week with "Am I Wrong", which grants them the longest run at #1 on Radio Songs for a duo since 2003/04, when OutKast lead for 9 weeks with "Hey Ya!".
  • John Legend's "All Of Me" drops two places this week to #8, but in doing so notches up its 23rd week in the Hot 100 top 10. This means it passes both "Happy" and "Dark Horse" as the longest running top 10 of 2014, as both of those could last "only" 22 weeks.
  • In rising from #11 to #9, "Chandelier" becomes Sia's first ever Hot 100 top 10 as a lead artist. However, it also becomes the third Hot 100 top 10 to have her vocals, and the 5th to have her hand involved in the writing. David Guetta's "Titanium" and Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" are of course the other songs to feature her vocals, while Ne-Yo's "Let Me Love You" and Rihanna's "Diamonds" are the other songs to have a Sia writing credit.
  • Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.4 million downloads, down 5 percent compared with last week (20.4 million) and down 16 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (23.2 million).
  • Year-to-date track sales are at 674.9 million, down 13 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (775.4 million).

YES at 'Chandelier' entering the top 10 :D Her first US top 10 as lead artist I assume?

'Latch' still climbing as well :o

Awful sales on the digital chart right now. 154k for 'Rude' is dire.
Sia getting that well deserved top 10 :D

'Pills N Potions' has had such a steady run: 47-42-43-24-44-41-34-45-46-46

Video release week aside, it's spent nine weeks between 34 and 47. It's still not a success or anything but I'm impressed with hot long it's stuck around considering it failed to break even the top 40 on fanbase sales.

Oo, yay at Stolen Dance sneaking in :cheer: I hope Hideaway reaches the top 50 eventually too, promising climbs so far.

I'd also like Rita Ora to break the top 100 too!

Black Widow top 30 :o

and No Mediocre entering the top 50 :D

'Stolen Dance' entering the Hot 100, great news. Very surprised at that breaking through before 'Waves' though :P

That's only because it was released mid-week. If it got a full week of sales it would've been much higher - same for the UK.

It still wasn't exactly a huge feat to go 47-42, even with a mid-week release :P Compare to 'Judas' or 'Till The World Ends', etc.

A tale of two strategies: one is going for alternative airplay while the other was sent straight to pop. 'Stolen Dance' has very quickly reached top 10 in its format, especially for an artist with no previous hit. 'Royals' and 'Pompeii' did the same last year and of course were crossover smashes. I'm not expecting top five for 'Stolen Dance' but so far they've surprised me as well. Can't help but wonder if 'Waves' should have gone the same route, as it's off to a very slow start on pop.

So happy for Sia! Her whole album is brilliant.

To be fair, Judas and Till the World Ends were released when the charts were calculated differently. It was much easier to debut high during 2008-2011 (songs even debuted at #1 fairly often in those years). Now getting a high debut is much more difficult, and it's almost impossible to debut at #1 since streaming was added (only Harlem Shake has done it).
