May 3, 201510 yr I think so, there's still a week left for it to accumulate more pre-order sales and it's already near the top 100, about on par with Froot I think?
May 3, 201510 yr Sorry to sound so out of the loop but does anyone know if this is being released on vinyl in the UK? I think Froot had one if I recall right? I keep reading that vinyl is "making a comeback" and that artists like Lana, Marina sell well on vinyl If this doesn't go top 10 in its first week, I think it'll at least have some good longetivity like it has had in the US, and perhaps sneak top 10 on a quiet week if 'Timebomb' and 'Thousand Miles' get pushed as singles
May 6, 201510 yr Album pre-order currently #118 on iTunes The Daily Telegraph Review: Tove Lo, Queen of the Clouds, review: 'glossy modern pop' The 27-year-old Swede's debut album is smart and sleek but eschews her erstwhile mainstream stardom, says Neil McCormick http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03286/tove_lo_3286636b.jpg Swedish pop songwriter Tove Lo is a very lateral, very modern success story. Having written for other pop singers (including Icona Pop, Ellie Goulding and Girls Aloud), the 27-year-old belatedly scored one of the defining hits of 2014 with the ethereal, narcotic pulse of Stay High. A multimillion seller all around the world, her hit was actually a radical remix (by Hippie Sabotage) of Lo’s previously unremarked 2013 track Habits. The original is a much more straightforward electropop ditty about hedonism whose fantastic chorus failed to garner any attention at the time. The remix was sped up and autotuned with the song reduced to a druggy wisp. Having launched Lo into mainstream stardom, her debut album returns to her original dance and r & b style. Lo certainly knows her way around a lyric, melody, hook and chorus, offering up taut, understated beats in lush synthetic settings. She sings about sex, love and break-ups with a sweet, plain voice and the kind of refreshingly direct, unblushing wit that has become increasingly common among young female artists. Her smart, sleek debut is packed with great, glossy modern pop but anyone seeking the other-worldly weirdness of Stay High will have to look elsewhere. Queen of the Clouds is out on Polydor on May 11
May 7, 201510 yr 'Moments' has been released as the next instagrat, currently #640 on iTunes Also: 460. Timebomb 551. Thousand Miles
May 9, 201510 yr Tove Lo interview: 'People assume I'm just this nutcase rolling around' http://i2.cdnds.net/15/19/618x412/tove-lo-by-johannes-helje-1.jpg If it wasn't for their shared knack of making killer pop songs, Tove Lo might have seemed like an odd fit as Katy Perry's opening act. While Perry laments lost love with a good-old power ballad, Tove Lo anaesthetises heartbreak by eating dinner in the bath and frequenting sex clubs. On the brink of releasing her debut album Queen of the Clouds in the UK, we sat down with the Swedish singer-songwriter to talk about misconceptions, opening for Katy Perry and what her mum makes of 'Stay High'. You started your career with the intention of being a songwriter. Was it hard to adjust to the idea of being a full-time popstar? "Yeah, because I didn't expect to become a popstar. I thought it was going to be my indie career on the side. I thought writing was my career, the artist thing would be my side project that I'd have fun with. When you're a songwriter it's amazing, but it's never your final product really. It's about what the artist wants - if the artist wants to say something different in that song - it's what the label wants, the production, everything. When you're in full control and you can be like 'these are my words, and I'm singing them' – that's a very relieving feeling." You've said it was hard becoming an artist because you felt like you were just a normal girl. Do you still feel like you're 'just a normal girl'? "Yeah, I do. I'm not some unobtainable creative mystery. I guess it's a mystery to people how I can put words to so many people's emotions, because that seems to be the reason that so many people relate to my songs. I remember being the shrink in my group of friends, and I'd be like, 'You're just saying this because of this, this, and that', and they'd be like, 'Yeah, that's true… how do you know that?' And I'd just be like, 'Well, it just makes sense'. My mum's a therapist... maybe it comes from that. I can put words to feelings easily. "I think creative people are always a little bit more sensitive, and have this need to express things. I think creative people in general have dark thoughts, and the reason they can cope with it is because they can get it out, creatively, in some way. This is what keeps me normal. I'm not an extreme personality in any way. Most people would be like, 'You're so calm and normal and polite'. I'm not a crazy person, but I guess seeing that video and hearing the lyrics, people just assume that I'm just this nutcase, rolling around. It's not like that. I've had my share of crazy nights, but it's not worst than most people. I think." Do you think the way you write will change as you become more exposed to fame? "It's hard to say. I always write about what my life is, and maybe it will be harder for people to relate to things I'll be writing about now, because it's a whole new life for me. I think, still, what I've written the most about are emotions and relationships, and ups and downs and the passion, and all the pain that comes with being into somebody else, and going crazy because of that. I think that will still stay the same, but I think for me now, the more famous I get, the more I get the sense that people are going to want that kind of thing from me, and it's going to be hard to tell who is genuine and [is] not. I don't want to become a suspicious person, everyone's always telling me that I'm too naïve, always bringing random people to parties, always being like, 'Yeah, totally, I'm up for it'. And people around me want me to be a little more suspicious of people's intentions. I don't want to become one of those [people who] hide behind everyone, being like, 'What do you want from me?' Being scared of new people – I definitely don't want that. I want to stay naïve as long as I can." http://i1.cdnds.net/15/19/618x381/music-tove-lo-2.jpg © Getty Images / Jennifer Lourie "It's different. I'm glad you said that. That's how I feel. You have those people who are like, 'You go to sex clubs, you throw up'. Just talking to all these jocks who are like, 'You're a party girl, aren't you?' And usually, I'm just like, 'Yeah, I like to party, like everybody else in this industry'. So I can play on that, because it's partially true. But it's also so much not what my music is about, if you listen to the whole album. Yeah, there are a few songs that are about sex, and there are drug references, and all those nights that you never will forget. But that's what you remember. Creating these memorable times are important to me. Chasing these rushes. I feel fine being in pop, I like pop music, so it still feels like home to me. "I think now, as well, it's a way broader genre than it used to be. That makes it more okay for me. I think, sometimes people compare me to certain artists, I'm like, 'I don't know, really?' But it's so cool, because now there are a lot of, especially new female artists who all write themselves, and are very in control of their own projects. You can really tell it's coming from them, and that's a huge difference now, than to what it was a few years ago, when it was very much like a product that was made by someone else. There are still artists who are like, 'I want to dye my hair blonde but my label told me I can't do it'. They don't own your f**king hair, do what you want. It's different for everyone. I'm very lucky. I've got a great team around me who are very on board with my vision, they never ask me to change anything." As a songwriter, you've tended to write more for females as opposed to males. Was that intentional? "I don't think I'm not as good writing for guys. I've just written a song for Adam Lambert which is going to be coming out later this year. That's probably the first guy that I've successfully written something for. I think it's just happened that way. Female artists who've been into my songs, they've heard my songs, so they want them to be [like that]. Male artists - it's more what I've had time for this year. A lot of that stuff if from earlier, before I became an artist. I have written with some guys, and it is like, 'Would you say it like this?' and they're, 'No, no, not really'. And I'm like, 'Really? Because I would really say it this way'. And they're like, 'I would not say it like that'. That could be because it's different some times. Not always, but it's like - it makes it even weirder for me thinking that so many of these lyrics are written by 40-year-old dudes for 20-year-old chicks, and that doesn't make sense either. It is different, no matter how you spin it. Equality is everything, but there is still a difference. Age, gender – there's a difference. We have different experiences. I think it's harder for me to understand what it's like to be a 30-year-old guy, because I've never been one." Have you ever got in trouble with your family and friends for being so frank in your songs? "Yeah, they're proud, obviously, but they're a little worried. My mum is like, 'Yay, my daughter wrote a song called 'Stay High', it's amazing', but she can't watch the video. Sometimes, they're like, 'Did you really have to say that?' But no friends have been pissed at me for anything. I think a few exes may have been a little offended. I never mention anyone by name, I wouldn't call them out; it's more about me, my role in the whole thing. We can't deny what happens." Do you ever feel exposed by making your personal experiences public property? "I didn't think about it until I released it. When I put my album out, I was like, 'Holy s**t, now everyone is going to know all this personal stuff about me… s**t'. All of my fans tell me their stories, and so many can relate to it. For me, heartbreak isn't an embarrassing thing, it's part of life. It's kind of beautiful, too, I'd rather have that pain a hundred times around, rather than not feeling it ever. I guess now that I'm a little bit older than what I was a few years ago, I appreciate the fact and be okay with the fact that I like it a little stormy. I'll always try to stir things up if it's becoming a routine and you don't notice each other; I'll raise hell. I'm probably not very easy to be with, but I think it gives you a deeper kind of love, I guess." What's the most surreal moment that you've had? "One of the most surreal was when we opened for Katy Perry in Australia and New Zealand. We had two more shows left and I had just found out that I needed vocal chord surgery in December, and I was thinking that this was the last thing I'm going to sing for a long time. The last show we played in New Zealand was the best audience, the most people. It was awesome but it was very hard for me still because of the voice and I was aware I had issues. But then on the last show my family was there and they came all the way from Sweden and I just knew 'Ok I'm going to give everything to this'. When they shut the lights the whole arena was full and they put my name up and you just heard these screams. I'd never been on an arena stage before so I was like 'What's happening?!' I remember during 'Habits' I stuck out the mic and was like 'Ok I'm gonna do it' like I do at my own small shows and everyone goes 'You're gone and I gotta stay high!' and it was like 'Yes!' and it was so unreal. I just came back out there completely broken down and crying with happy tears because I was like 'I made it!' [Tove Lo shows us said video] "It's so weird when I hear my voice here, I can tell it's so tired - it's so tired. It's such a big difference. That's almost comforting in a way because then I know I made the right decision doing the surgery. Because afterwards I was like 'I don't sound the same!' and it was terrifying but now I'm so happy that I did it." It can be a pretty high-risk procedure... "Yeah the scariest part is they wake you up and you're in so much pain and groggy and the doctor takes you into this little room and he's like 'Ok you can't speak, cough or do anything for 5 days. No noise whatsoever, but I need you to do one little hum so I know that your voice is there'. So I went 'Hmmm' and was like 'It's there! It's there!' That's the weirdest feeling in the world, to not be able to say a word." What's the most important thing you've learned? "That no matter what I need to stop and take in what's happening because there's so many amazing things happening that if I do too much... I need to still feel the passion for it. When I don't, I need to stop because it's taking too much out of me. And to be ok with that, I'm not a machine I'm a creative person who needs to deal with everything that happens. What's the saying? Stop and smell the roses? I don't want to be one of those people where life passes by me and I don't ever stop and have all this proof in pictures but no feeling. I always want to have a feeling connected to a picture that I'll remember." Queen of the Clouds is out on Monday, May 11. SOURCE: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/intervie...l#ixzz3ZgJ16ot9

May 11, 201510 yr I wasn't going get the digital version because I already had Not On Drug, Talking Body and Stay High, it was only £2.09, so I got it. Vinyl on the way too. I hope this doesn't bomb too much, but I'm not getting my hopes up after Marina and Charli XCX.
May 11, 201510 yr Up to #8 on UK iTunes now http://i.imgur.com/dAf7Ost.gif Cherrypicking update: 396. Tove Lo - Thousand Miles 434. Tove Lo - Moments 510. Tove Lo - Timebomb 1141. Tove Lo - Got Love VERY nervous about the midweeks, after Talking Body being robbed of its top 10 peak - I really need this to go top 10 as a means of compensation :(
May 11, 201510 yr 8 is really good! It's only 340 on Amazon though, and that's where 50% of album sales come from...Marina was #7 on Amazon at this point and her album only scraped the top 10.
May 11, 201510 yr What I've heard on spotify so far: 06 Stay High (Habits) 11 Talking Body (explicit) 10 Talking Body (non explicit) 10 Thousand Miles 08 Timebomb 10 Moments 09 Not On Drugs 05 Stay High (Habits Remix) 05 The Sex (Intro) 07 My Gun 09 Out Of Love Will probably buy the album tomorrow and cherrypick both talking body's to help for sales this week, probably cherrypick stay high to improve sales and a couple of my favourites on iTunes before using complete my album to buy the rest. Of what I've heard so far- it is amazing and my 4th favourite album this year already so far (behind Meghan/Charli/Marina)
May 11, 201510 yr 8 is really good! It's only 340 on Amazon though, and that's where 50% of album sales come from...Marina was #7 on Amazon at this point and her album only scraped the top 10. Marina was #7 on digitals and #15 or so on physicals if I remember correctly? And I think she'll get the top 10 due to no competition. She's technically #4 on iTunes when duplicates and compilation albums are taken out!
May 11, 201510 yr 'Timebomb' is such a BRILLIANT song! Such an odd verse structure, but it works SO WELL. As you can probably tell, I'm listening to this and so far it is very strong. I've heard 'Moments' already (due to Kelly Clarkson mentioning it as her fave!) and that was a TUNE. So far, so good for me! EDIT: I also forgot how much she sounds a lot like Selena Gomez! (In 'Not On Drugs' especially!)
May 11, 201510 yr And I think she'll get the top 10 due to no competition. She's technically #4 on iTunes when duplicates and compilation albums are taken out! SLAY QUEEN Bitch better get ha top 10! I'm hoping it will have a GREAT chart run even if does attain somewhat of a shabby peak. Its run in the US and Sweden have been really amazing so far, in part aided by 'Talking Body' of course: US: {14}-52-58-87-73-80-83-80-61-51-57-61-60-62-62-49-50-55-44-35-42-51-37-38-36-38->26 Sweden: {6}-10-9-9-9-9-12-16-15-24-23-26-30-26-11-13-10-11-9-8-10-9-9-8-9-11-14-9-10-11-12-15->32
May 12, 201510 yr What has the album sold in the US so far? It's had a very consistent run! There hasn't been a sales update from Soundscan/Billboard/Chart News since its opening week, but I imagine it would be around 200k at least? :o Album is still #8 (technically #4) on UK iTunes Cherrpicking update: 385. Tove Lo - Moments 411. Tove Lo - Thousand Miles 595. Tove Lo - Timebomb 879. Tove Lo - Got Love 959. Tove Lo - My Gun 1304. Tove Lo - Not on Drugs 1362. Tove Lo - The Way That I Am 1483. Tove Lo - This Time Around MOMENTS SLAYING The first three have the advantage of being instant grats I guess. I think that even 'Got Love' being higher than 'Not on Drugs' kind of proves that people just aren't here for the latter, as much of a favourite it is on here
