September 22, 201410 yr Col1967 - 'Love Is All Around' by Wet Wet Wet was No.1 for 15 Weeks in 1994 - not 14. It is pretty amazing that the Single with the most No.1 Weeks was in 1953, & it has never been beaten. That was 'I Believe' by Frankie Laine, which had 18 No.1 Weeks. It needed 3 'Runs' at No.1 to get them - 9, 6 & 3.
September 22, 201410 yr But that wasn't very busy time for singles back then It's interesting to think what songs were beaten by long running #1's: I Swear, Foundations, I'm Too Sexy... some signature hits for almost one hit wonders. Edited September 22, 201410 yr by SKOB
September 22, 201410 yr I bet my life we'll never get a song lasting 8 weeks or more, unless there is some sort of 'chart hack' manipulating the sales :D :w00t:
September 22, 201410 yr LOL marcin are you serious??? Nobody wants songs being number 1 for 15 weeks though Dead serious, SKOB. Charts are boring when the same songs remain in pole position.
September 22, 201410 yr Yeah, the weekly turnover is fine, I just wish there were more battles to the top & it not be nailed on like 90% of the weeks this year.
September 22, 201410 yr I hope so. I find charts more exciting when you get these big hits and you wait to see if the new release is strong enough to knock them off. Being number one doesn't feel so special when 30+ artists do it every year. You still get new releases coming in the lower positions of the top 10, so i have never really felt the UK charts have been stagnant bar the odd week since i started properly following them (around 2007). At least we aren't like the US where the top 10 is practically the same every week bar the odd swap over in lower positions. Now THAT chart gets boring. Looking forward to seeing who will be the next artist who can manage 6-7 consecutive weeks in the UK.
