October 3, 201410 yr Author 170. Amelia Lily - “Shut Up (And Give Me Whatever You Got)” → UK #11 ozwKs_H789w Ugh, Amelia is one of those people who I just so desperately want to succeed because she was my favourite on X Factor (same goes for Ella Henderson and Cher Lloyd) but this is just so terribly mediocre that it's hard to see she's even trying. 'You Bring Me Joy' was amazing (Top 50 of 2012 for sure) and I actually LOVE 'Party Over' (so sad that it failed to even make the Top 20), but maybe it's just the terribly long and annoying name of this song that makes it pale in comparison with the other two. Hell, even 'California' is better. (To be honest, I also love 'California', so that's not exactly a terrible statement lol) I DO like this song though, otherwise I wouldn't chart it this high, but I just feel like she could have done better if she didn't want to fall off the radar completely so quickly. She had (and still has) so much potential that it's really sad to see her release something so bland that I'm not surprised few people remember what this sounds like without audio aid. She is adorable though and I just hope she manages to take a U-Turn so that 'California' doesn't end up being her final single release even before we've gotten an album from her. http://i.imgur.com/wiEKyUg.jpg Personal Peak: #08 (7wks) Pretend Sales: 141.800 Edited October 17, 201410 yr by jafetsigfinns
October 3, 201410 yr I quite like Shut Up but California and You Bring Me Joy are miles ahead for me also
October 4, 201410 yr I absolutely adore White Walls. An excellent choice of single, and the chorus is life.
October 4, 201410 yr Author 169. Fatboy Slim and Riva Starr featuring Beardyman versus Calvin Harris - “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat” → UK #03 NIcW36J-h7Q I f***in’ loved this song when I first heard it. It’s so funny and doesn’t take itself too seriously which is a nice change every now and then but that might also be why it doesn’t manage a much higher place on my list. After a while it just became tired and, well, repetitive. The production is awesome on this but mixed with just one set of lyrics it just sounds the same all the way through when you’ve finally grown bored of it. Calvin is still a master at what he does and I would still lose my sh!t if this came on at the dance floor, but I just won’t resort to playing it much on my own anymore. Calvin has 4 more songs on the list yet to come (3x Top 100 and 1x Top 150), while the other artists on this track have none. http://i.imgur.com/0LjOA5R.jpg Personal Chart Peak: #04 (6wks) Pretend Sales: 144.300 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns
October 4, 201410 yr Author 168. Wiley featuring Chip and Ms D - “Reload” → UK #09 nEjayXdwVqY Honestly, Wiley’s string of Top 10 hits 2012-2013 was really random, but I’m still pretty happy they managed at least that level of success because they’re all definitely enjoyable. ‘Reload’ is not my favorite one, ‘Can You Hear Me’ takes takes that honor, but it’s still enjoyable enough that it made my [A] Playlist for a few weeks. The song itself is rather generic and most people probably can’t remember how it goes, but for me it’s just a fun drum&bass track to listen to while getting pumped for a fun weekend. For those who don’t know, Chip is the new stage name of the artist formerly known as Chipmunk (‘Champion’, ‘Oopsy Daisy’, etc) but I’m not entirely sure why this name change had to take place lol. Wiley has two more songs on the chart (one of them being a feature), while the other two have zeerooo. (Ms D isn’t even officially credited on ‘Reload’.) http://i.imgur.com/GwLQVSR.png Personal Chart Peak: #16 (8wks) Pretend Sales: 144.900 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns
October 4, 201410 yr Author 167. Rizzle Kicks - “Lost Generation” → UK #06 iL51Tsh6Sdg Aw, f**k it’s starting to get really hard to kick out songs at this point. I initially planned on sending ‘Lost Generation’ packing some twenty songs ago but after listening to it again and watching the video for the first time ever I found new respect for the song. I have always loved Rizzle Kicks and just about everything they’ve done is either okay, good or great (with the exception of ‘Tell Her’ which is just terrible - please get your sh!t together for your next single boys), but this one is just brilliant. All the shots they’re taking at these british celebs and british culture may have flown way past me (since I’m not british) but for some reason I still find a lot of them really funny (and I also like the Big Brother quip hah!). All-in-all, this is great and I feel bad about cutting it short here but for some reason I just can’t keep dragging it much further than my initial reaction was to do. Jordan and Harley have one more song to come but that one made it all the way to the Top 100! October 4, 201410 yr Author 166. Lily Allen - “Somewhere Only We Know” → UK #01 mer6X7nOY_o Here we go, second number one single to fall since the start of the list and sixth overall (if 201+ are also counted): 166. Lily Allen - Somewhere Only We Know 190. One Direction - One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) 203. Pharrell Williams - Happy 205. Baauer - Harlem Shake 215. Sam Bailey - Skyscraper 245. PJ & Duncan - Let’s Get Ready To Rhumble [Not actually on the list as it originally charted in the Top 20 in 1993] ‘Somewhere’ (the original) is so beautiful and definitely one of Keane’s all-time best songs, but I sort of feel like Lily could have done so much more with it than she did in the end. This version is also very beautiful and very festive which is fitting considering it was used in the John Lewis christmas ad, but still it just feels sort of bland. I really do wish that Lily had rather had experienced this success with the follow-up ‘Hard Out Here’ (which will appear later on the chart) but I’m still glad that she at least got some success this year. Unpopular opinion time: I am actually a fan of the JL christmas ad songs, which is so weird consider I’m not a christmas song kind of person, but I guess taking old songs and remaking them in this way can slip past my christmas-song guard dogs every now and then lol. Lily has two more songs to appear on this list: one solo and one feature. Ps. the ad itself is really cute and makes me look forward to christmas for some reason. Weird. http://i.imgur.com/OzkwSB6.jpg Personal Chart Peak: #09 (7wks) Pretend Sales: 146.600 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns
October 4, 201410 yr Author Hints about the next five songs: #165 and #162 are dance songs by acts that have already lost songs on the list so far. #164 is a Top 10 with two big names that somehow underperformed in a big way. #163 is a dance song by an act that seems to have 20 hits every year. #161 is an original song by an act that so far has mostly just released covers. October 4, 201410 yr Somewhere only we know was my 2nd favourite 2013 song after HOH last year. Just beautiful and stunning in every way possible
October 4, 201410 yr Ooh I love 'Shut Up (and Give Me Whatever You Got' I actually think it's far more impressive than her debut!
October 6, 201410 yr Author 165. Chase and Status featuring Moko - “Count On Me” → UK #05 91V0Cqx9TzM Yeah let's f-ing rave! Chase & Status sure know how to get this party started, and at No. 165 is their first of two entries on the list this year (they generally tend to have at least one Top 20 each year) and what a banger it is. The video is just lots of people going crazy with dancing and features the vocalist, Moko, numerous times with a crazy cool haircut. I did mess up in the hints section though as I thought C&S had three entries on the chart and that I had already eliminated one of them buuut I was mistaken. http://i.imgur.com/3XslUcz.png Personal Peak: #19 (11wks) Pretend Sales: 148.000 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns
October 6, 201410 yr Author 164. Dizzee Rascal featuring Robbie Williams - “Goin' Crazy” → UK #05 eG-yMcqwR6o I'll be completely honest, when I first heard this I hated it. But that's because it suffers from the same problem as 'Go Gentle' because I usually dismiss a lot of Robbie songs instantly for some reason even though I seem to like most of his stuff. Dizzee on the other hand is usually either good or great so that's why I ended up giving it another chance and then of course I loved it. But then it was just a case of too little too late as it doesn't quite add up to all the other songs of last year. I can totally understand why it sort of flopped even though both artists are really big in the UK: the song doesn't go anywhere. The chorus doesn't feel like a chorus at all, and as always there is hardly any way of singing along ot Dizzee's parts because there is hardly any way of understanding what the f**k he's actually saying. The video is just weird. I have no idea at all what I just watched. http://i.imgur.com/FRtVptE.jpg Personal Peak: #13 (9wks) Pretend Sales: 149.800 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns
October 6, 201410 yr Loving the countdown thus far, so many of my 2013 jams in there (Booyah, Soundbwoy , Reload, Count on Me). I'm amazed Soundbwoy didn't do better either, its such a banger! Hey Porsche hasn't ages very well, prefer Just a Dream from Nelly's recent pop hits. Suit & Tie has also been forgotten now IMO, thanks to Mirrors, but its a nice chilled track.
October 6, 201410 yr Author 163. Pitbull featuring TJR - “Don't Stop The Party” → UK #07, US #17 pz4Gd_u98ok Okay so for some reason the video is not available to watch in my country so I can't review that supposedly very pornographic video at the same time as I review Pitbull's 24th single off of his seventh (!!!) studio album Global Warming. This song is, as with all Pitbull songs, rather generic but still actually fun. I don't know why and I'm probably in a huge minority but I honestly enjoy Pitbull's work most of the time. He's one of those artists that you enjoy most when you're drunk off your ass and just want to sing along to something that everybody knows or can easily learn. Seriously, this is so simple. It's mostly just the chorus repeated twenty times and then a couple of lines here and there that nobody understands anyway and then of course "Dalé!" http://i.imgur.com/UzKBpeR.jpg Personal Peak: #07 (8wks) Pretend Sales: 150.500 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns
October 6, 201410 yr Author 162. Wiley featuring Angel, Chip and Tinchy Stryder - “Lights On” → UK #09 NBUMGpBBdck Ohh I like this one. Nice to see Angel and Tinchy return to the spotlight also, even if it's only just for a short stay in the Top 10. Chip is also on this even though he's uncredited for some reason (well, his part is only like ~3 seconds so maybe it's no wonder). The song is a classic Wiley banger, but its' downfall is perhaps the fact that it's not all that memorable unless you repeat it until it's stamped into your brain. I love it but the fact that my friends never got into it meant that the only plays it really got were on my headphones so a lot of the times I didn't even realize it was playing. To sum it up: It's good but it's not exactly great. http://i.imgur.com/Ce4KmeQ.png Personal Peak: #18 (11wks) Pretend Sales: 153.300 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns
October 6, 201410 yr Author 161. Birdy - “Wings” → UK #16 WJTXDCh2YiA First of all, Birdy's self-titled debut album was a masterpiece. Considering she was only, what, 14 years old when she released it that was a veeery impressive release and her style and voice are so great. 'Wings' is a great song but I was kind of expecting more to be honest. It sounds like something of a Coldplay rip-off at some parts but then again her voice is so unique that she makes it work very well. I'm not entirely sure why this didn't do better for me when all 3 of her 2011 releases would have been in my Top 100 if they had reached the top 20 (only 'Skinny Love' did.. eventually.) The video is cool and has a gothic style that she is totally working and she is so adorable. I'm just glad 'Light Me Up' didn't make the Top 20 or I would have had to cut a Birdy song off before the Top 200. That would have been a sad day. http://i.imgur.com/MzoNy4V.png Personal Peak: #14 (10wks) Pretend Sales: 154.700 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns

October 13, 201410 yr Author 160. Tinie Tempah featuring 2 Chainz - “Trampoline” → UK #03 6VOeQZ6Bi7I This is suuuch a weird song. I like the beat and I like the song itself for the most part but god damn is it repetitive. I feel like I'm being brainwashed when I listed to it because of his endless repetition of the words "shake" and "jump", but still for some reason I find myself enjoying this song. The beat is crazy infectious and makes me wanna dance every time but like I said before: too much of this song can definitely be a bad thing. This got old pretty fast but listening to it again now gives it sort of a new life for me. I think I'll be adding this to my weekend playlist again. Tinie has only one feature song remaining. 2 Chainz still has two more. http://i.imgur.com/9ULxIUp.jpg Personal Peak: #09 (8wks) Pretend Sales: 158.200 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns
October 13, 201410 yr Author 159. Dizzee Rascal featuring will.i.am - “Something Really Bad” → UK #10 QjJTv1ll6Mc Only five spots separate Dizzee's only two Top 20 hits in the Top 200. This is mostly because they are both just really generic and not all that exciting. 'Something' peaks higher though because despite featuring will.i.am it's not his name that attracted people (me) to the song. Will doesn't really do anything remarkable on this actually, but the song is still fun enough to almost make my Top 150. It's yet another club banger from 2013's Q4 but definitely not Dizzee's best effort for 2013 (that honor belongs to the massive 'Love This Town', which would have made the Top 100 had it made the Top 20 in real life *sadface*). Dizzee still has one appearance left, but that one is just a feature so most of the credit goes to another artist that shares a love/hate relationship with Buzzjack. http://i.imgur.com/MUVT3FJ.jpg Personal Peak: #13 (9wks) Pretend Sales: 158.900 Edited January 2, 201510 yr by jafetsigfinns
