2008 I actually liked as there was a bit more variety and despite the charts being slow it was nice to actually see the chart reflect what was actually popular at the time, there wasn't very many fluky no.1s that year which was great.
I completely agree with this. For those very reasons 2008 is in my top two for chart years (much like Ultraviolence). I don't feel like I've followed the charts long enough to answer this properly but I prefer variety in the charts and dislike constant turnover at #1, so a below-average year for me would have too little of the former and too much of the latter. So I'd probably count 2014 under that criteria, below-average for me but still good enough to listen and follow!

 

2005 is head and shoulders above 2004. 2004 was one if the worst years for singles ever IMO...
