The Top 30 kicks off with a classic football anthem, which was re-released for the 1998 world cup. Also making it into the Top 30 is a Top 5 hit from Janet Jackson, who teamed up with Blackstreet for 'I Get Lonely'

A couple of dance hits are next up and then we have the first of two All Saints tracks on Now 40. Their version of 'Lady Marmalade' is first up at 26, but where will the B-Side to it be? The Lighthouse Family were still lighting up the charts in 1998, their number 6 hit 'Lost In Space' makes it into the Top 25.

 

Barbara Tucker is surprisingly in the Top 25 with Everybody Dance (The Horn Song). Babs has supplied her vocals to many dance hits over the years.

 

The Mavericks supplied abit of country to the charts in the summer of 1998 with 'Dance The Night Away'. The song is still quite a popular party piece now. Embrace get the same score as the Mavericks, but as Embrace had an 11 vote, they just get above the Mav's.

 

Just missing out on the Top 20 is Billie with 'Because We Want To'.

Continuing on....into the Top 20, we have Mansun kicking us off with 'Lonely'. The second track from the All Saints to be featured on Now 40 is a cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers classic 'Under The Bridge', which was a double A Side with 'Lady Marmalade.

 

K-Ci & JoJo had a Top 10 hit with 'All My Life', which has made it into the Top 20 at #18. Eagle-Eye Cherry's debut hit 'Save Tonight is also in the Top 20 at #17.

 

Next up is a track from The Verve, that wasn't even a single. It's what the booklet describes as the single that never was....although 'Sonnet' is a really good track from The Verve, so no complaints there from me.

 

Into the Top 15 and we kick off with an 80's classic from Don Henley. 'Boys Of Summer' was originally a hit back in 1985, but was re-released in 1998 and reached Number 12 in the UK singles chart, which was the same position it reached in 1985.

 

'Big Mistake' was the follow up single to the million selling 'Torn' for Natalie Imbruglia. We have a nice piece of piano house courtesy of David Morales with the classic 'Needin' U'.

 

Missing out on the Top 10 is one of the biggest selling dance anthems of summer 1998 from Mousse T. 'Horny' was a Top 3 smash for him and one of Fatboy Slim's signature hits The Rockerfeller Skank is at 11.

Based on the classic Jacksons song 'Can You Feel It', 'Feel It' made Number 1 for The Tamprer feat. Maya back in 1998 and became one of the years biggest hits selling over half a million copies.

Bit of a one hit wonder, but a fab track from Karen Ramirez with 'Looking For Love'. It became one of the biggest tracks of 1998.

'Road Rage' became Catatonia's second bit hit back in 1998 and was taken from the album 'International Velvet'.

That is a very surprising winner! Having said that, although it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it's certainly a song I don't think many people dislike.

 

But I'm pleased to see Lucid so high, by a mile the best song on this edition!
