November 10, 201410 yr Author god what a BORING PILE OF RUBBISH. how in the space of single one to three has she gone from young popstar with her own identity to standard x factor xmas album selling granny pleaser? and what old fashioned lyrics, what 18 year old sees a relationship through such a guise? A bit harsh! She has had 2 upbeat pop singles and now is going for a ballad, there is some logic to that. As to the audience of this song, I think its the mainstream XF audience 25+ (All of Me territory) Unfortunately for me it isnt a strong enough ballad or radio friendly enough.... she will need a fantastic performance to make something happen (stripped back- not the glossy Seth Meyers version she did)
November 10, 201410 yr yes i agree a ballad for third single would make sense but at least choose something in fitting with the identity you've been developing. i'm not quite sure what business this song has being on her record let alone being released as a single? I assume because it references winter and has a john lewis feel about it. it says a lot of syco that they'd choose a single on the basis of a single television performance watched by people, who until this stage haven't been your target audience. add to that when the second single underperformed. it all comes across as lacking any long term plan or sense of clarity. when in doubt revert to the model you've used with every other flash in the pan contestant...
November 10, 201410 yr I wouldn't say that she has a very strong/unique identity, but she is certainly a talented young woman and 'Yours' demonstrates that perfectly! I think so, at least. It was one of my instant favourites on the album. :o Seems not many here share that view. Who is her target audience? I don't think she has a specific one. I assume that Ella & Syco will want to target anyone and everyone, and an X Factor slot exposes her to a rather diverse viewing audience, not a restrictive one. I assume a lot of her current fan base originates from the people who watched her on that show anyway, like most of us here. I think it's quite a wise choice for the next single, better than 'Empire' imo (which to me sounds like a song better suited for a Spring release anyway). 'Yours' is such a stripped back song, which will showcase her vocals effectively. I think the public will be taken with it. Whether or not it becomes a hit single is something I'm unsure of, considering the reaction in this thread, but I'm pretty confident that this song will turn her album into a huge seller over Christmas. At the end of the day that will be the main objective for her first album. P.S. Ella wrote 'Yours', so I'd assume the lyrics are true to herself, unless she's writing outside of her personal experiences. I see her as an 18 year old who is old beyond her years anyway.
November 11, 201410 yr So they announce a performance for Fifth Harmony but have yet to announce a performance for Ella. What a crock.
November 11, 201410 yr It's not very common for an X Factor slot to be confirmed so far in advance tbh. Fifth Harmony probably need extra time to build up hype and attention for it, considering how new they are in the UK.

November 11, 201410 yr Just turned onto channel 4 and the song is being used on Hollyoaks after some train crash? That will be on the channel 4 episode tomorrow, it was on the E4 episode today. It could well give a decent boost as it was a much loved character, Carmel McQueen, who died.
November 11, 201410 yr Should e a bigger boost tomorrow! They played a huge chunk of the song right over too, not just a little clip or it being on on the radio in the background. So people had enough time to Shazam it etc. :P
November 11, 201410 yr Author Now up to #46 !!!!------->#44--------> #42 Edited November 11, 201410 yr by JimmyT
November 11, 201410 yr I don't watch Hollyoaks, but happened to see this when my housemates were watching and it's kind of sold the song to me!
November 11, 201410 yr I've purchased Yours! I've connected with it through Hollyoaks. It was all kind of incredible and it could go top 20 on iTunes! Who would have known Hollyoaks would have had such an effect!
