Songs of the Year

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/ArianaGrande-Problem.png

7 Ariana Grande - Problem (feat. Iggy Azalea) - 4-1-1-1-1-2-4-7-10-12-15-19-25-32-33-30-27-15-18-24-30-33-38-X (23 weeks)

I've always been a fan of Ariana Grande, I first heard of her when Jack500 recommended his BJSC entry Put Your Hearts Up to me, it was a #14 hit in my chart (which was a top 15 then lol) but I did enjoy it. She had two top 20 hits from her debut album Yours Truly, with third single Right There getting the highest of them all, making #5.

When it was announced that she was collaborating with Iggy Azalea, I was beyond excited. More for Iggy, I knew Ariana was a huge force in America and a collaboration with her only meant good things for Iggy, and I wasn't wrong. When I first heard the track, I thought it was great but the chorus was underwhelming. It led to a #4 entry in my chart, but eventually the chorus totally clicked too and the track spent 4 weeks at #1. It's the longest consecutive run of 2014, although Cheryl's Crazy Stupid Love has had 4 non-consecutive weeks too. The track still sounds amazing now and I'm so pleased it was a big hit.

Ariana went on to have a great year in my chart, two further #1 singles in Break Free and Bang Bang before a #1 album also. This song totally sold her as an artist to me, even if I really did enjoy her debut album, I wasn't a stan of hers. I think I would consider myself a stan now. Ignoring how Love Me Harder just isn't clicking with me lol.

Interesting fact: whilst Problem did very well in my chart, it spent just 3 weeks more in my entire top 40 than Fancy did in my top 10 :kink:

Looking forward to your write-up for Fancy. I wonder where it'll place in your EOY? :o herp:

it's all about the verses for 'problem' absolutely fabulous. the verses are the highlight for me *.*

('love me harder' is better though)

oo i'd love another vamps lead single next year, hope you're right!

ugly heart was really lovely, took a while to grow but very happy it turned into a proper hit in the uk charts. such a shame about simone though, she seemed incredibly talented :(

problem took forever to grow on me but i do like it a lot now, i love the way ariana grande sings despite the terrible diction and the verses are just so catchy. she went even better with break free and better again with love me harder. the way is very nice too, glad she's a proper popstar now hope she stick around!

I have nothing to say about Ariana Grande, I just wanted to add some Oscar Nominated goodness here.

Songs of the Year

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/HunterHayes-Tattoo.png

6 Hunter Hayes - Tattoo - 40-20-22-31-28-X-26-9-8-7-9-14-18-12-8-7-5-4-7-9-2-1-5-5-9-16-19-23-26-... (28+ non-consecutive weeks)

One year ago, I had no idea that Hunter Hayes actually existed, I'd not heard his name anywhere and had no idea what he did. I was then watching the American Music Awards on VIVA on New Years' Day and saw the category for Country Male, and Hunter was nominated. A brief clip of his single I Want Crazy was played and my ears picked up - it sounded very promising and I had to go and check out his material. I listened to his debut album on repeat for about three days, it was crazy.

Second album Storyline got released in May this year and I fell in love with it, this song in particular was an instant highlight. Tattoo hit the top 20 just as an album track, before re-entering when announced as single #2 from the album. It went on the peak, for the moment, at #7, before a brief revival from the music video, getting to #4 before falling again slightly. Then back up again, to its peak of #1, helped by its UK release, where it entered the iTunes top 100 for a short while following Hunter's appearance on This Morning! Just goes to show what a hugely drawn out release it had - single announcement was FIFTEEN WEEKS before it peaked here (and it was still being promoted at the time).

Commercially, the track was a huge flop in the USA. It became Hunter's first single to not make the Hot 100, which is a real shame as it's my personal favourite of his, so upbeat and sweet, and it should've been an absolutely huge smash hit. Doesn't look like there will be a third single from the album at this rate which is a huge shame, there's SO much potential. Anyway, Hunter's had an amazing year in my chart and I really cannot wait to see what he has in store for the future.

I really wasn't a fan of Ariana (and I'm still not sure about her persona either oops) but I unexpectedly LOVED 'Problem'! It really is such a great song, I'm with Jake over the verses and the saxophone brings the whole thing to life. Love Iggy's rap tooo

Oh as a person, I'm not entirely sure of her, going by some of the reports. Of course they're not all guaranteed to be true but hearing things like her reportedly saying she wishes her fans would all "fucking die" is quite saddening. Problem is an undeniable TUNE though.

Songs of the Year

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/TheVamps-WildHeart.png

5 The Vamps - Wild Heart - 3-4-1-1-2-3-6-5-8-2-5-9-12-18-24-27-30-32-25-12-17-20-26-30-33-36-X-25-38-X (28 non-consecutive weeks)

Shocker now as The Vamps only just make the top 5 with their highest track!

For most of the year, Wild Heart was in my top 2 songs, but sadly it's been pushed down a bit by some incredible tracks. I first heard Wild Heart at the tail end of 2013 actually and its two weeks at #1 were in the last two weeks of 2013, but all of these weeks count towards 2014 in EOY terms anyway, plus its UK release was 2014 so it would count anyway. I always liked the song but it was AGES until I got a proper good quality audio of the song, it wasn't until the CD release I believe! Both the lyric video and music video had the song interrupted by cheering or talking or other sounds :)

Wild Heart is the perfect track to sing along to, it's got a great summer vibe as with all Vamps singles and is the perfect tour opener for them, gets the energy going immediately. It opened both their Taylor Swift support act slot and their Meet The Vamps theatre tour during October. It missing the top 2 was a shame but selling ~83k for a #3 debut was incredible and if it sold the same on many other weeks of the year, it would've been #1. Damn Pharrell and Clean Bandit.

I'm shocked :o I don't find it too different to their other tracks but I've seen several people find it a lot worse!

1. Somebody To You

2. Last Night

3. Wild Heart

4. Can We Dance

5. Oh Celine Dion (Breaking My Heart)

^ My preference, therefore the correct order. ^_^
