First up here now it's 'Rather Be' by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne. Was not a fan of this to begin with, and didn't like when I heard it all round, people listening to it at college, it being on the radio all the time, but after hearing it constantly for ages and ages it finally clicked with me and I couldn't help listening time after time. Still as much in love with the song now as I was when I first started to like it, still sounding fresh despite being almost a year old! 'Break Free' is definitely the better of the singles from Ariana's 'My Everything' era. 'Problem' is *okay* but nowhere near as good as this. The video for this is just sensational. Not only do you have something that is very reminiscent of a Doctor Who episode, but you have Ariana re-creating the sexy scenes from Kylie's 'Put Yourself in My Place' video - albeit looking much, much sexier. Wouldn't mind seeing her like that all the time x Next, 'Sirens'. This was the big turning point for me with Cher Lloyd. Liked her first album a fair bit, but this sound was so, so much more mature. 'Sirens' is definitely a song that'll stick with me long into this year and probably beyond. The video is incredible as well. 'Dark Horse' is amazing. The BRITs performance was amazing, and the video is amazing despite the major scrutiny it's come under from various pathetic organisations and religions. And finally, 'I Will Never Let You Down'... I'm actually disappointed this is the only material we've heard from Rita this year because if what was to come was in the same vein as this, then it would have been an INCREDIBLE year for her. But let's just leave 2014 with the memory of having Rita's best single to date.

Some of my favourites in this section, Ariana did really well on her dance-pop single, shame it wasn't a bigger hit but silver is good too. Rather Be is lovely too, the production is fantastic as always but Jess is a fantastic vocalist too, hope we see more of her in 2015.

40 5 Seconds of Summer - Heartbreak Girl - 20-15-13-12-14-19-21-24-30-41-43-45-47-49-X (14 weeks)

At #39 we have Beyoncé with 'Pretty Hurts', by far and away the best track from 'BEYONCÉ'. While 'XO' is a stunning song and is one of the major highlights from it, 'Pretty Hurts' just blows it out the water there and back again. There really isn't anything you can pick at with this song. I absolutely LOVE the introduction as well. "huh, my aspiration in life... would be... to be happy", yeah. The chorus to this is so strong as well and all of the song just has a really strong message and her voice conveys it perfectly. Cutting it just finely and securing a spot in the top 40 are 5SOS, aka. FAVES, with 'Heartbreak Girl', an album track from their self-titled début album. It's definitely one of the best album tracks on offer. It has the killer pop chorus, we have Calum's voice sounding perfect, Luke's voice sounding perfect. All versions I've heard of this song are just f***ing amazing in every way - the live performances, yes zaynsdic, the acoustics, yes zaynsdic. Has a special connection with me as well, so it makes it all the better.

38 Selena Gomez - The Heart Wants What It Wants - 8-4-7-10-14-20-29-34-41- (9 weeks to date)

At #37 is Alyssa Reid with her sample of 'Defying Gravity', going by the title 'Gravity'. My love for this really is not represented well enough at all going by its brief chart run, but it is such an amazing song. Absolutely love her version of it, the random intros and outros are some of the best things about what's on her album, 'Time Bomb', and the ones here are just insane. I suppose most of my love for this song comes from the fact that a) the original version is f***ing stunning and b) Lea Michele's version from Glee is simply stunning as well - her version is probably my favourite of the three that I'm most familiar with though. And next up we have Selena Gomez with her latest single 'The Heart Wants What It Wants', promoting her Greatest Hits album 'For You'. It's by far and away my favourite single of hers to date. 'Come & Get It' and 'Slow Down' are both amazing pop songs and really proved that she is a credible artist, but this just goes a step further. Incredible, even if it does seem a bit like a "JUSTIN I WANT U BACK!!11!!" pile of slop.

Very lovely to see Tinashe dotted around the place here. I am so glad you got behind her! Hopefully 2015 is better for her ~commercially~ speaking.

Lovely inclusions from Beyoncé & Ariana too and loads of love for 'Sirens' which is just incredibly special

Hopefully we have a new batch of material from her next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see the album re-released, like Iggy, although she's probably not as thirsty and desperate as her.

Glad to see you love 'Sirens' too

36 Professor Green - Lullaby (feat. Tori Kelly) - 2-3-6-11-17-21-24-26-24-31-17-22-30-34-41-X (15 weeks)

At #35 is one of the biggest surprises of the year for me. I never really paid any attention to Charli XCX's previous material, and BOOM (pardon the unintentional pun), then came along 'Boom Clap'. I probably love this more down to the fact that it's from, by far, my favourite film of 2014 - 'The Fault in Our Stars'. It's an incredible song, but its placement in the particular scene where it is in the film is just perfect. This sound is obviously amazing from Charli, but I don't think this is something she should try and replicate again in the hope of finding another smash. 'Break the Rules' already sounds fairly similar, but she should steer clear because nothing will come close x And at #36 we have 'Lullaby'. Tori Kelly was one of my artists to watch in 2014 in my last EOY - and she's definitely shown us that she's got a stunning voice and I'm SO ready for her début album sometime this year. She's going to be incredible. Can't wait for more beauties like 'Dear No One' and 'Paper Hearts' because both of those are incredible also. I can't help but get the feeling that 'Lullaby' was written for Emeli. It sounds like it could have been her featuring on the song but she's... not... for some reason. Tori is WONDERFUL anyway, so no complaints from me. Emeli's traded Prof Green in for Guetta (and I can't say I blame her because 'What I Did For Love' is perfect xo).

33 Kylie Minogue - Sexy Love - 15-6-14-17-24-27-32-34-38-48-X (10 weeks)

34 One Direction - Steal My Girl - 5-2-3-3-2-5-7-9-14-25-31-37-45-X (13 weeks)

At #33 we have the queen of pop herself (no, Madonna is not and does not/should not exist), Kylie with one of the best tracks from her twelfth album 'Kiss Me Once' - this time it's 'Sexy Love'. This song is so, so, so, so much fun. Adorable little pop track that I just can't help but get up and dance to. I'm really disappointed that after just one date this was snubbed from the Kiss Me Once Tour and I didn't get to see it in Glasgow because I'd have given ANYTHING to see her do the dance that she did to the song on the Liverpool date live. I've tried recreating it myself, not ashamed to admit. I'd probably say just behind 'Into the Blue', 'If Only' and 'Kiss Me Once', this is the next best offering on the album, so give it a listen if you haven't already!!!1! Next is One Direction, and they have had a phenomenal year in terms of music. Releasing what could possibly become their best album to date, and having a very different type of lead single from an album - 'Steal My Girl'. I don't exactly hate this song, I've just grown a bit tired of it now and I don't listen that often and only really listen when I'm not paying attention and it comes on shuffle accidentally, or I just feel in the mood to listen to it when that blue moon comes around. Not one of their strongest singles, but I love the video and Zayn is literal perfection.

Boom Clap is a fantastic pop song with a huge chorus, really fell in love with it quickly because the chorus was just so damn catchy. Getting into Doing It a lot now so hopefully that'll return her to the top 10 soon.

Lullaby took me by surprise and was really lovely, obviously it's all about Tori and her stunning chorus (hopefully she get's a breakthrough next year) but Pro Green delivers too so I'm glad it was a bit of a shock hit even if it did sound very dated.

32 One Direction - Night Changes - 12-3-2-4-7-10-12-2-4- (9 weeks to date)

Up next, two definite favourites of the year. At #31 is 'Ugly Heart' by G.R.L. I didn't even know of this song's existence until about halfway through the year. I heard it a few times and I wasn't exactly that sold on it, but a few more and I started to fall in love with it. It's a KILLER of a pop song. Fond memories of being out with friends when it's playing, because it's the one we always got up and danced to, and certain things happened when it was playing. Simone's (RIP) voice in this is so so good. And the lead-up to the final chorus in this, for me, is just 100% life-giving. Next is 'Night Changes' by One Direction, the second single taken from 'FOUR'. This, for me, was definitely one of the best songs on the album when I listened through. I didn't think I'd think what I do now though that it's their best ballad to date, has one of the greatest videos in terms of concept, and generally the song where they all do sound amazing (particularly Zayn and Harry though, obviously x). It has a great amount of emotional definition with me personally now.

Opening this next section we have Cheryl (not even going to attempt the surname because a) it's far too much effort and b) it's f***ing stupid) with the second single taken from her fourth album 'Only Human' - 'I Don't Care'. This is definitely my favourite single of Cheryl's since 'Under the Sun' (not that there's many choices in between LOL), but this, 'Under the Sun' and 'The Flood' are by far and away the three best things from her discography. The video for this song is very much the same as 'Under the Sun' and 'The Flood's, they're all sexy and they're all beautiful. And next up we have The Voice runner-up Jacquie Lee with her début single 'Broken Ones'. This is such a powerful and emotional ballad, and has such special meaning to me. It was really love at first listen for me, she definitely deserves to have a successful career and if we get a début album from her this year at all, it needs to be full of songs just like this and 'Tears Fall'.

28 One Direction - 18 - 5-2-3-3-6-8-7-8-10- (9 weeks to date)

Two AMAZING and LIFE-GIVING songs in this next block of two, and up first we have 'The Way Out' by Jack Walton. By far and away my favourite X Factor contestant from this year, but even LONG before that I'd known of him and his music. He's got amazing songs on iTunes, including the aforementioned track and 'Gone'. Now we have all of his X Factor performances to loon over. 'Only Girl (In the World)' is the best of the four, but the other three are amazing also. I honestly hope he can get some form of success out of his efforts, and it seems we're already on track given he's featured on a track called 'Goin' In' by Tom Zanetti. Hopefully a label out there can spot the immense potential in him and he gets the opportunity to record at least some new music. Favourite human. And second up we have '18' by One Direction, by a country mile the best track on their fourth album 'FOUR'. It's not just the beautiful lyrics that get me in this song, or Zayn's gorgeous and soothing voice, but it's just the whole flow of the song and how gorgeous it sounds, from start to finish. Flawless in every way.

Up next we have Nicole Scherzinger with 'Run'. This is by far and away the best thing from her second album 'Big Fat Lie'. The era started well with 'Your Love', it was a great summery song, and then we had 'On the Rocks' which was just an overall disaster really. But with 'Run', she completely nailed it. A beautiful and quite haunting ballad. Her performance of this on The X Factor was incredible. She really needs to keep going with material like this because it's what she's best at. And secondly, we have the title track from Kylie's twelfth album 'Kiss Me Once'. This song is great, it's mixing old sound and new sound and the end product is amazing. I think my love for this heightened a great deal after seeing it live on the Kiss Me Once Tour, it was just amazing. No dancers, no over-the-top visuals, just Kylie, some sensational lighting, her voice and the crowd. It was a beautiful moment to be a part of. Definitely up there with 'Sexy Love' and one other track at the top end of the album for me.

24 Lily Allen - URL Badman - 5-2-6-16-22-32-18-24-28-27-33-38-47-X (13 weeks)

'Don't Stop' is the only 5 Seconds of Summer single not to have made it into the top 20, oops. I do love the song a LOT, but it's my least favourite of the four. I love the whole concept of the video, and Calum is looking FINE in it, but I just prefer the other three (one in particular by a bit of a landslide). This song was a bit less instant for me than 'She Looks So Perfect', but it's still amazing. Mikey's vocals on this song are actually really amazing despite me not actually paying that much attention to them previously, and the others do shine a lot. It's one I rarely go back to when listening to the album as well which is strange. I usually just start the album at 'Beside You' and listen from there, but I should start at 'She Looks So Perfect', aka. one of the best on an album full of perfect songs. Second up is 'URL Badman' by Lily Allen! I've had a massive turnaround for her this past year, and 'URL Badman' is the song that turned me into a bit of a loon. This is by far and away the best song I've heard by her. The introduction is just hilarious, but it's all about the chorus. So catchy and just amazing overall. I shall refrain from revealing which member of Buzzjack the introduction reminds me of, lol.

Just missing out on the top 20 are two AMAZING songs, sadly it wasn't meant to be for either of them though. First up we have American teen popstar Madison Beer. 'Unbreakable' is her second single following the insanely amazing pop song 'Melodies' which featured Justin Bieber, heavy promotion for Beats headphones and just all round amazingness from the world of pop. It really did seem like she was going to be the next big thing in terms of teenage girls like Selena, Miley, etc. Then we had several months of waiting until 'Unbreakable' came around - this is nowhere near as good as 'Melodies', but it's still an amazing song with such an emotive message. The video makes it all the better, Madison looks incredible in it and the song is just one that I'm sure almost everybody can relate to. Shame we seem to be no further forward in finding out whether we'll be getting the début album any time soon. Just behind her is Frankmusik with 'Crash and Burn', an album track from 'By Nicole' featuring Natasha Bedingfield. I had kind of forgotten Natasha existed and then BOOM, out of nowhere she's here lending her stunning vocals to a Frankmusik track. Both of their voices just go so beautifully together and this makes for one of the best tracks of the year! The chorus to this is just so, so perfect. Cannot fault it at all. If you haven't heard this, be ashamed.
