To me, this is by far and away the best song from the album. You have songs like 'Love Me Harder', 'Why Try' and 'Break Free' that really are all phenomenal in their own rights, but this song blows them all out of the water. The lyrics are simple, the song itself is simple, but it's so so touching and adorable. Her voice is definitely at its most vulnerable in this song, but it's really emotive. One of the factors that makes this song more beautiful is that it was co-written by one fifth of One Direction, Harry Styles (who knew he'd have a hand in writing a song like this?!). Another of the main reasons I think I love this so much is that I was at a really low point a while ago, and this was one song that I could really, really connect with. If you haven't heard this then shame on you, and if you don't rate this then, well... gSO8zl7vYas
January 12, 201510 yr Author 19 http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a556/jennacolemanfan/EOY%2014/Wonderland_zps32a27ae4.png Taylor Swift - Wonderland 1-1-2-4-7-12-17-20-23-25-31- (11 weeks to date) Never in a million years would I have imagined a Taylor Swift song making it into the top 20 of my EOY, but alas, here she is with the best song she has ever written/recorded/what have you, to date. '1989' is a 'good' album overall, but my god this bats the ball out of the park and then some. You have amazing songs like 'All You Had to Do Was Stay' and 'Out of the Woods', but this is in a whole league of its own. One thing that definitely helps this song to be more bearable than most of her others is that there's no real distinct "bitchy" lyrics saying that X man and Y man are dicks and they should never be trusted and they did this, that and the next thing to Taylor's innocent little heart and it broke into a million pieces shattered all over the iamspamspamamifloor. It's just a song about being careful when you enter the enchanted world of love. Her vocals on this are so, so powerful and the whole song is just so punchy. The final chorus is the best thing about this though, and it's even better when you listen full blast with the earphones in. Stunning.
January 13, 201510 yr Author 18 http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a556/jennacolemanfan/EOY%2014/LayMeDown_zps36d9d42a.png Pixie Lott - Lay Me Down 31-2-1-1-3-5-6-8-9-12-12-13-17-21-26-29-36-43-43-X (19 weeks) Continuing our journey through the top 20 and next up is Pixie Lott with 'Lay Me Down' - the follow-up single to 'Nasty' taken from her self-titled third album. I don't know what it is about this song that makes it so utterly amazing, but it just is. There are other songs on the album that come close to equalling it, such as 'Champion' and 'Raise Up', but this one just stands out a fair bit more. The video for this is amazing, it starts to go downhill a bit towards the end when she's just floating around wearing the most random, obscure and in a couple of cases quite unattractive outfits, but at the beginning when she's on the boat with just her sexy little red bikini, she looks STUNNING. This, for me, is by far and away her best single to date. It's little wonder the song flopped officially considering she was never going to make a recovery after what 'Nasty' did to her, but oh well. She did extremely well in Sandénia x xyVmCBF3gm8

'Tonight (We Live Forever)' is such an amazing little pop song, but I wouldn't say it's my favourite single of theirs. 'Carry You' takes that title every time, with the former just a little bit behind, and then followed by 'You Got It All'. But anyway, about the song. The one thing I love most about this album is they seem to have realised that it's George that should be taking centre stage. We have Josh doing falsettos here, there and everywhere, Jaymi just being a diva and doing what he does best, JJ having a few solos here and there - but it's all been about George. The first verses, the choruses - his voice is stunning! Not just in this, but we got it in 'You Got It All' too. The video for this is a tad on the cheap side, but that can be overlooked considering how great the song is! It did the job, but it didn't really need to do anything more. Took them a while to get to #1 in my chart too, but they finally got there and added another to their chart history, yay! bPaWyHuYNCE
January 13, 201510 yr aw wonderland is fantastic, hadn't heard the deluxe tracks 'til a couple of weeks back and both are fantastic! both are on a level footing for me at the moment but i have no idea why they weren't standard edition tracks. lay me down is good too, really shouldn't have flopped so bad because it's miles better than nasty. i liked her as an artist too so shame she flopped so bad this era is as good as over.

'Long Way Home' is definitely one of my top favourites from 5 Seconds of Summer's début album, although really - which isn't a favourite of mine from that album? This song is brilliant on SO many levels, the chorus is just definitive of life. The lyrics of this are actually really emotive as well, even though it's a really fun and up-beat song that gets you up. Much as I do love the original version of this, I absolutely ADORE the live version from their tour - it does sound like it would be such a moment hearing and seeing that performed live. I also LOVE the acoustic version a lot that was included on the 'Good Girls' EP - absolutely stunning. I love when their voices are all a little more exposed than they would be on studio tracks, so the likes of 'Good Girls', this and 'Don't Stop' performed acoustically are just gems. mCXIpQsRPAw Edited January 14, 201510 yr by Calum Hood

I knew from the moment I first heard this song that I was gonna love it and have it on repeat for ages, and that I did. From the moment I watched his X Factor Australia audition I knew he could have a good career ahead of him. While he's not smashing any charts across here in the UK, he's certainly made a name for himself in Australia, and I'd assume that once he's not restricted by his age and once he's grown up a bit, he can come over to the UK, or go to the US, etc. and try to build success here and there. This song though, is just incredible. The chorus of this is absolutely everything and it just gets me every time. The lyrics are definitely a bit cringey at parts, but that's what you get when you have a song from somebody as young as him, so it's give and take really. I don't think the chart run for this dictates how much I do love the song though, I imagine if I could turn back time now it'd probably end up being a #1. dYbym6PUqnI

I didn't even have a clue at all who she was until this song premièred, but when it did I was just blown away. When it first entered my chart I thought it would be the first multi-week #1 of the year, but sadly it was not meant to be as another song overtook it in my affections. It did however manage to last 22 weeks in the chart, and she did very well with it. It's a shame though that 'Glorious' (the album) didn't quite live up to the expectations that this song left behind. The following singles 'Holding Onto Heaven' and 'Glorious' were good, and still are, but they're not as amazing as this, so I was a bit underwhelmed seeing as 'Let Go For Tonight' wasn't exactly a great representation of the album as a whole. A diamond in the rough. The video for this song though is so much fun, and she looks absolutely stunning in it. It goes so perfectly with the song too, so nothing to pick at with that either! It is of course Alexandra Stan's 'Thanks For Leaving', the lead single from her second album 'Unlocked'. This was the perfect way for her to re-introduce herself and get back on the scene. Before, she was a bit tacky really, 'Mr Saxobeat' wasn't exactly a groundbreaking masterpiece in the world of music, but it got her name out there anyway. This album though is so, so much more mature on many levels. There are actually songs with a fair bit of depth to them and they carry a message so powerful, much like the one in this song. The message in 'Thanks For Leaving' is about moving on from an ex-lover, and looking for love again. The video is so powerful, and is probably one of my favourites of the year! Stunning in every way. The one lyric that gets to me the most in the song though is "my heart's been relisted, you have been evicted, you're out, I'm spring cleaning, so thank you and thanks for leaving". Simple, but f***ing powerful. wsFXhMO3cqY

This is definitely one of the best things she's ever done - the whole thing blends classic Kylie with a bit of new Kylie and creates something of a modern masterpiece. Her vocals are on point all throughout this song, and she sounds better than ever! It's definitely the highlight of 'Kiss Me Once' along with 'Into the Blue' - those two are incredible then there's stuff that's brilliant, all the way down to shit (see: 'I Was Gonna Cancel'). My only niggle with this is that she didn't perform it on the Kiss Me Once Tour. It would have been a MOMENT, and then some. Although the set-list that she did perform was perfect and really couldn't have gone any better, the addition of 'If Only' in the encore would have been incredible. The songs from the album that she did choose to include on the set-list could have been better (especially when she chose to perform 'Beautiful', but ditch 'Sexy Love' after a few dates...), but oh well. This song is one that I'm definitely not bored of yet and can't imagine I will be any time in the near future. Let's hope there's more of the same to come on her next album because it's definitely where she's strongest~ wSFhSZ9tJ3w

When listening to the album for the first time, this was automatically one of my favourites. It's an amazing blend of pop and rock, and all of their voices sound absolutely fantastic in it. Calum and Michael in particular. Michael's solo in this is amazing - I don't normally pay much attention to his solos or where he sings at all, but here he sounds great (and looks great - which makes for a nice change, sorry Jáhq x). The video for this is PERFECT, it goes with the song so well, it does its job, and it's amazing. Calum in a snapback and standing there looking absolutely perfect in every way possible is obviously great to see. This is definitely in my top 5 from the album - and as I've already said there are so many perfect songs from the album - but this is up there with a couple of others. Won't spoil the top 5 because we're yet to find out what the highest ranking song from the album is! Which will it be? :o 0FfG_5JBVBQ

This was my immediate favourite from the album. There are so many good tracks on the album - it's definitely a strong return from her given 'Sticks + Stones' wasn't exactly anything *amazing*. The likes of 'Sirens', 'Sweet Despair' and 'Human' show that she does have a mature side to her voice and when she puts her mind to it she can deliver a really powerful and extremely emotive ballad when she needs to (don't understand why this was never released as a single, but she seemed to move on from the era pretty quickly after 'Sirens' didn't really make any sort of impact at all). But then we still have the fun side of her showing through with songs like 'Dirty Love', 'I Wish' (lol, nobody even knows what that is) and 'M.F.P.O.T.Y'. This really would have made an excellent single, the video would have been incredible, much like that of 'Sirens'. The chorus of this is just EVERYTHING though, it never wears, and it's just a really emotional song and I think I connected with this at a part of my life where I felt very low (much like a lot of my top 10 - they all have some special meaning to me from specific parts of the last year) - I think this one comes from a place much deeper than a couple of others though. q3P1UT9NlvM

I wish I was, I wish I was beside you" Up next at #9 we have yet another song from 5 Seconds of Summer - and this time it's an album track from their self-titled début album - 'Beside You'. This song immediately struck a chord with me when I listened to the album for the first time. We had the singles 'She Looks So Perfect' and 'Don't Stop' which were AMAZING, we have 'Amnesia' which is just musical perfection summed up in four minutes, we have the likes of 'Long Way Home', 'End Up Here' and 'Everything I Didn't Say' which are EXCELLENT, but this one is just on a completely different scale. I don't know what it is about the song, but all of their voices sound perfect in this - particularly during the first verse, and then we have the chorus. It just sounds like there's so much vulnerability there - and it's one of the few songs on the album that does show that. 'Amnesia' showcases their vulnerability perfectly, but this does too. Like I said earlier, each of the tracks that have made the top 10 have a special personal connection with me, and this one is no different. I think I associate this one most with a relationship - and it was playing on a loop probably for about a month last year, the lyrics just moved me and I was away somewhere else that wasn't here. I hear they've started working on their second album now - so we NEED more tracks like this on that, and if there are then boy bands don't come any better. W14p3hDlMfc

When I heard he was going to be releasing an EP, this was brilliant news. I had only just got into watching YouTubers, and aside from my favourites - Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, Mamrie Hart, Marcus Butler, Ollie White, etc. - Troye was also on the list. Some of his videos are absolute gold, and in particular his coming out video which could surely bring anybody close to tears. But anyway, yes, being a favourite YouTuber of mine, I was sure I was going to love this. And of course, he delivered, and then some. 'Happy Little Pill' smashed it around the world and actually did very well for him. The rest of the EP surely cannot go unmentioned - 'Fun' is as the title suggests a fun little song, 'Gasoline' is just sort of there for me but it's a nice song, 'Touch' is a brilliant song, probably my third favourite from the EP because 'The Fault in Our Stars' is just a BEAUTIFUL song - absolutely love it. It's stunning, and everybody needs to listen to it if you haven't already. This song connects with me a lot because I feel like it speaks to me about a relationship that just couldn't be given up (although the less said the better I suppose). The video for this is also really beautiful, very well directed and the photography is beautiful. QEWHF3E9YJQ

Not the last appearance from The Vamps here (spoilers), but dropping out next at #7 is the third single from their début album 'Meet The Vamps' - 'Last Night'. I absolutely LOVE this song for many, many reasons. Not only is it the perfect song to listen to when you've just woken up having been heavily drinking the night before and you don't have a f***ing clue where you are, what happened, or how you're still alive, but it's really different to previous singles 'Can We Dance' and 'Wild Heart' - but at the same time completely recaptures what made you fall in love with them even more with those singles. The video for this is brilliant, so much fun - I don't really know how I'd rank each of their videos really, they're all quite different to one another and they're all as amazing as each other, so let's leave that until a bit later in the countdown (more spoilers). The only thing I really do not like about this song, and I have been quite vocal about it since I first heard it lol, is when Connor screams "TIL THE END OF THE NIGHT" before the last chorus - it should be a bit of random and pointless fun, but there's something really off-putting about it. Really don't like that at all. Other than that though, you don't really get many songs more perfect than this. WLyHSOXhZhY

All we have is this moment, tomorrow's unspoken, yesterday is history, so why won't you be here with me?" 2013 song alert. I know this is from 'Prism' which isn't a 2014 album, but I only really properly connected with this at the beginning of 2014 and most of the rest. This song really is the best that the album has to offer - the créme de la créme of Katy Perry music, and music in general, let's be honest. Won't go into the details about why this song in particular means as much as it does to be, but it just has a very special place in my heart, and it just leaves me with a bit of a hole in my heart that there's not the same connection with the person the song's associated with, like there used to be. I think my love for this is heightened a great deal following the performance at the Prismatic World Tour - even if it was cut short so she could break into 'Love Me' (which is another song I've grown to love a LOT this year - I firmly believe the latter half of 'Prism' has gone quite annoyingly unnoticed - there's some real gems in there: 'By the Grace of God', 'Double Rainbow', 'It Takes Two', 'Ghost', 'This Moment' - all songs that are so close to perfection it's unreal). Anyway, back to the tour. She performed this so stunningly and effortlessly - and it's a moment (pardon the unintentional pun) I'll be forever grateful to have been a part of. The run this had in my chart certainly doesn't rectify how much I love it. A peak of only #4 is disastrous quite simply, and it would have been a #1 easily had there not been so much competition towards the end of the year, and it definitely should have lasted just a little longer than it did. #longevity. The lyrics I've quoted as well are quite simply two of the most stunning I have ever heard in a song also, the first just means so much and the second speaks for itself I suppose. 7LDmiHRH-Lg

Up first and missing out on a spot in the all-elusive top 4 are 5 Seconds of Summer with their début single 'She Looks So Perfect'. This song certainly does look so perfect - not sure about 'she' though. Obviously before I heard this song I'd known of 5SOS because two of my best friends loved them and their YouTube covers and videos, and they got me hooked on them. I wasn't really that sold on this song to begin with. It was a very good song by what looked to be a very promising boy band, but it didn't exactly stand out from the crowd for me. A few weeks later and about 100 listens later, I was absolutely HOOKED on the song - such an infectious chorus coupled with verses that just sound gorgeous. Calum and Luke both sound incredible in this song, particularly the latter (sorry Calum bae) - although this is probably the only song where I sit back and think 'wow Luke actually sounds great here!'. Before I speak about the video, let us just admire how f***ing perfect Calum looks in it to begin with: Stunning. Gorgeous. Perfect. Sexy. Hot. Everything you would want in a man. Boyfriend. Husband. Lover on the weekends, whatever. He's perfect. The song should in fact be called He Looks So Perfect on the basis that Calum Hood most definitely, 100%, is. Anyway, onto the video (and parts of it that don't concern Calum) - it is such a fun video! A great way to introduce this band that were about to smash it to us - SO glad they managed to get to #1 in the UK officially with this. The video is a bit strange at points, I'm not really sure I understand the correlation between 'overweight' people jumping around and making a fool of themselves in the middle of restaurants or supermarkets, or in the middle of the bloody street. But one thing I do love about their videos (well, the first two anyway), is the American Apparel underwear. The lyric is there, and they had them make an appearance in the video for this, but not only that, they carried on the theme and had each of the four sexy superheroes wear American Apparels. That's a minor thing, but I always notice it and I find it a nice little continuity nod. :heehee: Anyway, I've rambled on enough about the song. Nothing more to say apart from a) it's perfect, b) Calum Hood is perfect, c) the video for this is strange but perfect in its own way, and d) if you have not heard this then you have no life, bye. Bonus: if you do not *LIKE* this, then who even are you? Is this the last we'll be seeing of 5SOS in the countdown to #1 though? :o X2BYmmTI04I
