December 14, 201410 yr Author I doubt many 50 year olds buy One Direction records that's true but you are still missing the point. Older people buy a lot of music and isn't all about 20 year olds buying fellow young people's music. Artists like Ed Sheeran, even Buble etc are bought by teenagers to the middle-aged and that is why they are so successful. They appeal to a wide demographic. Also being successful is not all about itunes. There are many singers who are not #1 but make a living performing live and selling consistently smaller amounts. There is a market for older people as well as the young. They just have to be marketed right. An example Joe McElderry won the show but his first album was marketed at the completely wrong audience and flopped. His second played to his strengths and his audience more and sold 3 times as more and was successful. I doubt many teenagers bought that album. Also racism will have nothing to do with it if Fleur comes second! Look at Alex and JLS, people voted in their millions for both because they were great. yes you always have the adult-contemporary strand that appeals to many fanbases but when has the x factor birthed someone of that sort? maybe olly at a push. anyone wanting to go down the adult-contemporary route would never use something as glitz and 'cheap', if they don't win after it ruins their chances of doing well further down the line of life. but the adult-contemporary subgenre if you will is the exception as opposed to the rul. i know it sounds like i'm making sweeping generalisations but i would argue the music industry is very black and white as you bring in issues of age, genre etc i'm sure there could be a very good sociological study out there looking into the demographics of who votes for who and their reasons for doing so. and that speaks for britain in a sort of way.
December 14, 201410 yr Matt better looking? Yikes. That is subjective but Matt did not have the right personality. He was nowhere near as likeable. Shayne was very nice looking but Ben is better imo. Also Shayne was the most successful of the male winners so the point I'm making has some validity there. He did well for a while with not great material and his looks definitely helped him. I've met (and sniffed) Matt before and he is a very lovely guy  he always chats to people and spends ages with them. He's got confidence in his talents, nothing wrong with thatm he is a superb vocalist, writer and musician. Looks do not help as much as people make out. Nobody listens to someone on the radio and thinks "they sound sexy, I'll buy their music" It certainly helps with videos though. Shayne beats all other male contestants there :smoke: he has the whole package, in more ways than one.

If you are aiming at a certain market. I doubt if 5 people with Andrea's image sang What Makes you Beautiful it would be a worldwide #1. Like you say all about the package :)

December 14, 201410 yr Yesssssss I think Tulisa done an ok job but I actually really missed Mel last night. Edited December 14, 201410 yr by troylovesmusic
December 14, 201410 yr Tulisa did NOTHING. Sche sat there looking like a TROUT and that was about it.
December 14, 201410 yr Author Tulisa did NOTHING. Sche sat there looking like a TROUT and that was about it. isn't that just exactly what the buzzjack massive most value? hence such local icons as pixie lott and ella henderson
December 14, 201410 yr Tulisa is probably my 2nd favourite judge on all the series of X Factor, after Dannii Minogue - so maybe I do have a thing for plastic trouts.

December 14, 201410 yr Tulisa did NOTHING. Sche sat there looking like a TROUT and that was about it. Compared to the other 3 who did awe-inspiring performances and danced around the stage with the contestants? What else were people expecting her do apart from comment on the acts? She gave some of the most insightful comments of any of the judges and seemed to really think about each contestant as an individual and where they'd come from/progressed into throughout the series unlike Cheryl "i liked the staging" Whatshername.
December 14, 201410 yr She actually has a personality, she actually seemed like she gave a shit about her acts (which is what I also liked about Dannii). I just like Tulisa in general, she's a mess, she's a chav, she's not polished. I just thought she came across really well. I WANT EVERYONE IN NEWCASTLE TO PICK UP THE PHONES AND VOTE!!1 I WANT EVERYONE IN ESSEX TO PICK UP THE PHONES AND VOTE!!!1 I WANT EVERYONE IN........ HIGH WYCOMBE TO PICK UP THE PHONES AND VOTE!!!1
December 14, 201410 yr And not forgetting iconic rock week choices such as 'Tik Tok' and 'Crazy'.
December 14, 201410 yr Dannii was the best judge we've had but this year on the Aussie version she was absolutely AWFUL. Miserable as anything practically every week. I liked Tulisa. She was much better in 2011 but I liked her in 2012 too. I preferred her to Kelly who, whilst she had some iconic moments such as "YOU PUT IT DOWN BABY GIRL", was a bit too much. I know she came before Nicole, but to me she was like a poundland Nicole.
December 14, 201410 yr Tulisa did NOTHING. Sche sat there looking like a TROUT and that was about it. Exactly. I wince whenever people say things like the show needs Tulisa back or bring Tulisa back? Dear god why? What does she bring to anything apart from 400 million tweets about her face last night. On the subject being discussed on the last couple of pages, this forum is so completely biased towards any female on a type of show like this. There have only been 3 true stars who have made a big career out of X factor, Leona, Olly and 1D. Those 'popstars' this forum worships have done much worse than many of the 'boring male contestants'. People vote for who they like and the deciding factor of success outside of the show is ultimately material i.e the music they release. Leona has the personality of a mop but she got Bleeding Love. 1D got That's what makes you beautiful and Olly has had a plethora of catchy hits given him. Ella came 6th but heck Ghost is so undeniable who cares, but in the same breath if she had started her career with Glow she'd already be inching over the X factor scrap heap. The person who will be the most commercially successful outside of the show will be the one given the best material, it could easily be Ben as much as it could Fleur. So any talk of people not voting for a popstar is nonsense as no one knows how good or bad they will be outside of the show.
December 14, 201410 yr I will have nothing bad said about Kelly. I think she may have ran out of steam towards the end of the series but throughout the first 3/4 of the competition she was absolutely wonderful. So much fun and really made the show a joy to watch. Was lovely to have someone actually give constructive criticism on vocals as well from someone who knew what they were talking about.

I'll never forget her comment about a girl band/lead singer thing. Saying that I don't remember the exact words I just know it was funny.
