Black widow is such a great tune and book clap is so catchy. I adore up which is also definitely one of my favourite Olly songs, it is really nice

Only love can hurt like this is one of my favourite ballads this year and is so so beautiful. I am glad Paloma finally got some big chart success with this :cheer:

And Idina :cheer: Let it go is definitely one of my favourite songs ever

Amazing 2 sections Reindeer Froot

'Up' is fast becoming one of my favourite Olly songs too! I'm glad Paloma managed to get a big success with a single to, one of the most unexpected hits of the year for me!

73. Oliver Heldens x Becky Kill - Gecko (Overdrive)

74. Bombay Bicycle Club - Luna

75. John Newman - Losing Sleep

76. Taylor Swift - Shake it Off

77. Years & Years - Take Shelter

78. Clean Bandit feat Sharna Bass - Extraordinary

79. Calvin Harris feat Ellie Goulding - Outside

80. Disclosure feat Mary J Blige - F For You

’F For You’ did appear in last year’s EOY countdown but a revised version with Mary J Blige has boosted it into the Top 100 this year! Mary spent a while in London working with acts like Disclosure and ultimately created an album out of it (which I need to hear!). Calvin and Ellie’s last collaboration reached my EOY Top 30 last year but ’Outside’ doesn’t do as well. I still love it but, as with most of ‘Motion’, it feels recycled from Calvin. ’Extraordinary’ took its while to grow on me initially as it is more understated than ‘Rather Be’ and it was a great follow-up. Years & Years are quickly creeping into my affections and are now one of the acts I’m really excited about for next year! ’Take Shelter’ is the first of three entries from them to appear. Taylor made her dramatic return with her best ever era, starting with 'Shake It Off'. Yes, it’s only just started but considering I’d only liked ‘I Knew You Were Trouble.’ from her before, she’s done well to have two consecutive singles to appear in this countdown. I’m even going to listen to the album…soon!

KING John Newman starts off the Top 75 with ’Losing Sleep’, a song that still gets better with every listen and really is underappreciated. He does NOT just have one good solo song. ’Luna’ was another gem from Bombay Bicycle Club which has the perfect mix of male and female vocals. It is the clear standout from an album that I’m still not sure about and perhaps haven’t devoted enough time to. ’Gecko (Overdrive)’ was initially entered as an instrumental to BJSC but I wasn’t a lover of it. However, Becky Hill really does add a lot to the song and singing over the breakdown surprisingly works very well. The video though…eek. I didn’t want to like ’Stay With Me’ as I knew it would be all over the radio and it followed that other song but it worked it’s glorious charm on me due to Sam’s vulnerable lyrics and vocals. One of my favourite BJSC entries of the year was ’The Fire’ due to its blend of male and female vocals!

'take shelter' is an utterly wonderful song

It really is! Years & Years really are one of my favourite new bands.

Unkinder *.* what sort of underrated top 100 smasher~

I know, I really should take the time to seek out new music especially when I hear gems like this

61 - 70

61. Taylor Swift - Blank Space

62. Bastille - The Driver

63. Halsey - New Americana

64. John Legend - All of Me

65. FAUL & Wad Ad vs PNAU - Changes

66. MNEK - Every Little Word

67. Jungle - Busy Earnin'

68. Foxes - Let Go For Tonight

69. Beyonce - Pretty Hurts

70. Katy Perry – Walking On Air

HOW WAS ’WALKING ON AIR’ NOT A SINGLE? The world needs to hear it. A ***flawless era from Beyonce (let’s forget the repackage) sees her have four entries here starting with ’Pretty Hurts’ which explores society’s obsession with perfection. Beyonce was clearly preparing everyone for 7/11 which showed that she herself had imperfections. SLAY FOXES. ’Let Go For Tonight’ explodes into a gigantic chorus, much like Florence as someone else suggested. Jungle are one of my favourite new artists of the year and ’Busy Earnin’ feels like it has been everywhere over the last few months. Oh MNEK, I don’t know what is happening with his solo career. Was he just releasing buzz singles this year? Were they meant to be given a push? IDK but he did release gems, ’Every Little Word’ being the best one. Sounding unique in its nature, MNEK cleverly plays with the production to highlight that he is one of the best British acts out there at the moment.

’Changes’ is another song that featured in last year’s EOY countdown but due to its push this year, I have had more memories attached and it features slightly higher. ’All of Me’ is such an underrated song this year and everyone reading this should hear it! It is a beautiful song and I do remember hearing it last year thinking how good it was but once I found out it was by John Legend, I didn’t think it would do anything. I did forget about it until it’s explosion but how wrong was I! My first proper BJSC hit was ’New Americana’ and appropriately it is one of my favourite entries and indeed one of my favourite discoveries as an artist as she has another song to feature! The song is an anthem for today’s youth. One of the most dramatic songs in the countdown is ’The Driver’ which was so powerful when I watched it in the Radio 1 Re-Score of Drive due it appearing in a key moment of the film. Current hit ’Blank Space’ features next and is another lesson in pop perfection from Taylor. She is currently unstoppable and long may it continue with songs like this.

Changes and let go for tonight are great and I definitely agree about walking on air should have been a single

Walking On Air should have definitely been released over the non eventful Birthday and This Is How we Do. What was she thinking?

Gecko  Not approving your shade of the instrumental tho :nono:

Extraordinary is underrated, it just made my top 40 of the year, you should check out my chart sometime ;)

I don't understand why you wouldn't release 'Walking On Air' especially considering the other single choices.

Yes they really are! Taylor's beating the biggest pop stars at their own game.

I know! 'Birthday' is just radio filler with zero impact and 'This Is How We Do' is clearly just an album track, not screaming to be a single like ANOTHER TRACK :drama:

53. FKA twigs - Two Weeks

54. Ella Eyre - Comeback

55. Halsey - Hurricane

56. HAIM - If I Could Change Your Mind

57. Foster the People - Best Friend

58. La Roux - Let Me Down Gently

59. Sam Smith - Like I Can

60. Ed Sheeran - Don't

Before it was even announced as a single, I was sick of ’Don’t’ due to hearing the ‘la la la lalala’ bit on the Beats advert on every single advert break on 4OD. However, after getting over that, I came to appreciate the song showing another side of Ed Sheeran and it highlights that he is not just a one trick pony. This is how you do uptempo numbers Sam Smith if you’re insisting on the MOR route. ’Like I Can’ is definitely my favourite solo song from him and so we have finally reached his last entry on this year’s EOY chart compared to his Top 10 entry last year with ‘La La La’. La Roux finally made her (and it most definitely is just her this time) comeback 5 years later which meant the return was fairly muted across the ~mainstream~. Official ‘buzz’ single ‘Let Me Down Gently’ is a song of two parts as it kicks up a gear halfway through. ’Best Friend’ is the most similar ‘Torches’-sounding song from Foster the People’s second album which is why it features so highly here. More songs like this next time please, thank you. HAIM achieved a post-album single success with ’If I Could Change Your Mind’ and the video shows off their dancing skills which is unexpected to see. The usual glorious harmonies make it another highlight from them.

As I said before, Halsey generated one of my favourite personal BJSC entries and her recent song ‘Hurricane’ shines even higher than ‘New Americana’ and she is certainly going to be someone I’m going to keep a closer eye on. Conversely to a certain other fellow hyped up Sound of 2014 artist, Ella Eyre hasn’t made a big impact on the charts yet unfortunately. It’s a shame because ’Comeback’ is explosive and demands that it should be a hit. Hyped Buzzjack fave FKA twigs is next with ’Two Weeks’ where her vocals are perfectly on point and blend so well with the excellent production. I’ve listened to the album a couple of times but haven’t warmed to it as much as everyone else seems to have. The underappreciated and overlooked ’Dance With Me’ achieved a Top 10 hit for Le Youth but didn’t stay around for long which is a true crime. It oozes coolness and it’s a shame that the follow up wasn’t up to the same standards no matter how much I tried to get into it. ’Happy’ a song defined by it’s title and has been utterly inescapable. 2014 has certainly been a year for movie song hits what with ‘Let It Go’, ‘Everything Is AWESOME!!!’ and ‘The Hanging Tree’ to name a few and who expected a Despicable Me 2 soundtrack song to be the biggest selling song of the year AFTER the film was released. It of course exploded after the release of the 24 hour video, something I may as well have watched considering the amount of times I’ve heard the song since.

Glad (and pleasantly surprised, after what you said before) to see you remembered one of the best post-album hits of the year 'If I Could Change Your Mind'!

Love that last section - 'Best Friend' is very enjoyable, 'Dance With Me' is indeed a forgotten gem and I appreciate being reminded of it :music: and we have matching #53 positions for 'Two Weeks' :mansoncheer: #rabbitspike is real :o

(Also, very late but delighted to see 'Graveyard Whistling' slayin it :D)

Fantastic to see Luna in here, really gorgeous song and really not what I expected to hear from them. I recently found out the female vocalist on the song is Rae Morris, she has a really lovely voice.

Much love to Changes & If I Could Change Your Mind as well, New Americana was really great too, though the main thing that struck me was how much it sounded like Lorde's Royals!

Happy is so good again and I adore comeback, still don't get how that wasn't massive :(

Let me down gently is definitely La Roux's best song this era and I also adore if I could change your mind

Great section Reindeer Froot

Great to see Foster The People here! It's a shame their singles were largely overlooked this year.

And I was just thinking yesterday how well soundtrack songs have done lately! That trend definitely needs to continue.

Haus hii-lites from the recent crop ~

53. FKA twigs - Two Weeks

55. Halsey - Hurricane [n]higher than New Americana, wot [/b]

58. La Roux - Let Me Down Gently happy to see this here obviously, but far too low for my liking :'( and not even bold in the commentary!? :nono: an absolute BEAUTY

59. Sam Smith - Like I Can

61. Taylor Swift - Blank Space

63. Halsey - New Americana your best for me now, very easily. more of the same in 2015 i want d'yer'ina/Flo'maker(??) to be strong next year too <33

65. FAUL & Wad Ad vs PNAU - Changes

I know, I tried my best this year to remember the post-album hits but I did still miss out on some! 'If I Could Change Your Mind' excellence certainly helped me to remember it.

:o Although hopes of #rabbitspike is fading away after No. 38 in your EOY...

Fantastic to see Luna in here, really gorgeous song and really not what I expected to hear from them. I recently found out the female vocalist on the song is Rae Morris, she has a really lovely voice.

Yes I spotted 'Luna's lyrics in your EOY subtitle! Oh I didn't know that although I guess that means Rae Morris' album might go the same way as Lucy Rose's :(

I didn't spot the comparison at first but after other posters pointed it out, I see it now! Beyond happy that it's managed to reach the semi-finals in TBO :o

Happy is so good again and I adore comeback, still don't get how that wasn't massive :(

Let me down gently is definitely La Roux's best song this era and I also adore if I could change your mind

Great section Reindeer Froot

I initially read that as I don't get how 'Happy' wasn't massive  It is a shame about 'Comeback', it's such a big song in sound :/

Great to see Foster The People here! It's a shame their singles were largely overlooked this year.

And I was just thinking yesterday how well soundtrack songs have done lately! That trend definitely needs to continue.

I know, I would have liked them to start the era with 'Best Friend' though, it might have got a bit more support!

58 I'm keeping my eye on this in your EOY, can see it being a contender for No. 1, if 'Chandelier' doesn't get there! Oops, La Roux overlooked even in the commentary :drama:

63 Yes, I'm hoping so too! Need to find my entry first though...

41 - 50

41. Christopher Tin feat Soweto Gospel Choir - Baba Yetu

42. OneRepublic - Love Runs Out

43. Cathedrals - OOO AAA

44. Kiesza - No Enemiesz

45. ZHU feat Sean Dee - Faded

46. Alt-J - Every Other Freckle

47. Jungle - Time

48. Iggy Azalea feat Charli XCX - Fancy

49. Years & Years - Desire

50. Lorde - Team

’Team’ is first here and Lorde is one of the strangest popstars of the last few years, would she even be happy being called a popstar? There is a clear passion for music inside her but it’s scary to see this unleashed with every performance. ’Desire’ explores a slightly more commercial sound than ‘Take Shelter’ for Years & Years which in fairness is probably why it’s higher cos I’m too much of a commercial hoe. Perhaps that should be my New Year’s Resolution to overcome that. Who dat at 48? It’s IGGY with ’Fancy’, the surprise hit of the year. I wasn’t initially keen on the song at first until the Clueless-inspired video release. The repeated watches helped the song to grow on me to the point where I was now watching it because I was addicted to the song rather than the video. I can honestly say that it was not the success which made me change my mind. Jungle’s second and final entry is ’Time’ which is v. funky~ and they represent such a refreshing sound and the band itself contains an exciting presence. Alt-J’s as ever bizarre ’Every Other Freckle’ is the next entry. They are another exciting band as you’re never sure what they’re going to come up with next with each song experimenting with different sounds but still managing to come up with two coherent and consistent albums that take you on a journey.

The unofficial remix of ’Faded’ sits next. Maybe it was because I heard this version first or maybe it’s because I’m not the greatest fan of dance instrumentals but I really prefer this to the original. I think the rap fits in great in between the vocal parts and everytime I hear the main version, I find myself thinking the song is too bare and missing the rap! Kiesza marks her first entry with ’No Enemiesz’ which was her last of three massive singles (I’m talking of quality, not chart success (if only…)). I wish the singles were more representative of the album as I think it would be one of my favourite albums of the last few years although I guess there is the danger of it being slightly too samey. Cathedrals is another of my BJSC entries and 'OOO AAA' was the type of entry I’d been looking for since my entrance into the contest. Containing a mix of male and female vocals and being in the genre of indie-pop, I was very excited to enter it. It did have a mixed response in the final and received the joint-lowest number of votes but the fact that it received three 12s was very pleasing for me, as it showed that those who liked it, loved it! (‘Circles’ and ‘New Americana’ both also received three 12s). OneRepublic capitalised on their ‘Counting Stars’ success with ’Love Runs Out’ a song that was released with the ‘Native’ special edition. It continues and increases the impactful use of the heavy drum beats in attempt to create another anthem, which worked for me! Ryan Tedder is an excellent songwriter and this only goes on to further prove that. ’Baba Yetu’ is definitely the most unusual track in this EOY countdown which makes it very tricky to place. Therefore, it’s kind of appropriate for it to be the song to just miss out on the Top 40. It’s one of my BJSC highlights from this year as it’s such an unexpected entry. I’m finding it hard to express my love for it into words and so I will just have to leave the song to do all the talking.

36 - 40

36. Clean Bandit feat Jess Glynne - Real Love

37. Kwabs - Walk

38. CHVRCHES - Get Away

39. Sub Focus feat MNEK - Close

40. Ed Sheeran - I See Fire

Another soundtrack song is ’I See Fire’ for last year’s The Hobbit and a song that only hit me around Ed’s album release. Subdued and stripped back, even for Ed, it’s a beautiful song that builds up to a big finale. MNEK is back for his 5th (I think) entry with ’Close’ and it’s possibly my favourite Sub Focus song as, once again. MNEK’s smooth vocals bring the song to life. Really rooting for MNEK success in 2015 and I cannot express that enough. It was only this year that I really got into CHVRCHES and now, looking back over last year’s EOY, they should have been a lot higher. I think ‘The Mother We Share’ would now be Top 20 rather than 68. ’Get Away’ was produced for the Drive re-score soundtrack and it was my clear highlight from that. I’m saying all these good things about CHVRCHES but have yet to listen to ‘Dead Air’ oops… Kwabs is another artist I’d like to see being big next year and hopefully his Sound of... nomination takes him somewhere. ’Walk’ is an excellent upbeat song and it was pleasing to see it feature on the FIFA 15 soundtrack. Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne returned to the studio after one of the most successful songs of the year and, rather than attempting to recreate that, they produced another magnificent song with 'Real Love'. It sounds like Clean Bandit’s most polished effort and perhaps their ‘pop’-iest song to date .
