May 13, 201510 yr We cannot talk of an high peak anymore with this new strategy because instead of selling 60k 35k 20k 10k (uk strategy), we will have smth like 25k 20k 20k 30k 20k 10k (that's how in america works, and that' s the reason why in america is difficult to have an high peak)
May 13, 201510 yr Yeah iTunes have it down for a 7th release. It's weird because Radio 1 announced a late June release too, at first. It's a bit confusing. For now, I'll be ignoring the late June release... If it's true, we won't be playlisted tonight and 3rd of June will be the days to look at the playlist.
May 13, 201510 yr Leona's PR basically explained the confusion. The new single will be officially released on June 29th and available on iTunes from the June 7th. The single is released on Itunes June 7th, but it impact day isn't until June 29th, ie when they want radio play to peak. So playlisting etc is probably a couple weeks away at least. :drama: Edited May 13, 201510 yr by Joe.
May 13, 201510 yr Someone should open a chart prediction poll in the chart forum. I don't know how to create one.
May 13, 201510 yr Oh dear, I can see it missing the top 10 then and quite easily as well! :( It's basically On Air/On Sale with a bit of video airplay help beforehand, it's just not going to work.

I was thinking how well this was being handled, too. Yep, it'll hugely under-perform if they're expecting it to be playlisted after the release. What an earth are they thinking? They needed to get it on the radios now (start building airplay as of next week). If not, just change the iTunes release to 29th of June! *Bangs head against wall and cries* Edited May 13, 201510 yr by Joe.

I wish also other people care and try to email sarah (the manager) and ask her to release everything on the 28 (aside from spotify that is ok to have on the 7 so that can build streaming up and peak on the 28th) otherwise at the best Leona single will peak inside the top 40

A comeback release like this from Leona should be taken great care of, as it basically impacts her future and opportunities as an artist, and fans should want to see their favs around for longer. May 13, 201510 yr What are they playing at? Everything was going so well until the messy release date situation. It's like they want her to miss the top 5/10.
May 13, 201510 yr To be honest I think they must have a plan. Seb has managed Adele, Island have (and had) lots of successful artists on their roster. Darcus, the head of Island, has already said that they have an ambitious international plan and Leona is the label's top priority this year. Why would they do something that'd very likely mess the campaign up? I think we've either misinterpreted the news or there's a very good reason why they've decided to go with this strategy...
May 13, 201510 yr I'm sure they do have a plan, just, is it a good one? We'll find out? Don't Island also manage Jessie J and Jessie Ware? Their eras have been terribly managed and all over the place...

It's the same strategy that they are using with Florence, well What kind of man peaked at 37 (it's call a flop by people while overall it has sold more than other singles peaked inside the top 5) , the new single peaked at 79 on the official chart, it is now 39 on itunes and the impact day is in two weeks Then I have a question Is Collide a flop?? well it peaked at 4 so I do not think it's a flop and sold like more than 150k, if Island would have use the strategy the are using with FUMF with collide we probably would have a chart run like 25 30 32 31 25 30 40 etc a long chart run inside the top 100, but the peak is 25, so the GP that see collide peak at 25 would call a flop when it's not, and that would influence Leona, her credibility etc. Edited May 13, 201510 yr by pes

Will you get that into your head. Florence was a classic On Air/On Sale release. And it's not that fans on digital spy don't care at all... We all had a big discussion about it and most fans wanted to wait to see how things would pan out in the next few weeks before jumping to conclusions. Leona's release stratergy is 4 weeks of build up until the 7th - getting her a much higher peak than Florence and she has a lot more TV performances than Florence. Plus the only TV performance Florence has had for "What Kind Of Man" was many weeks after the release... Radio should start playlisting the song next week or the week after so it'll have some radio play build up. Leona also has Sunday Night at the Palladium on release day. John Bishop's Variety Show starts airing on BBC 1 May 30th, so she'll be on that likey 6th June or 13th June. Then she'll also like be on Graham Norton/Loose Women/TV breakfast shows. Leona has a second radio tour the week before release (1st June-7th June). She'll be on BBC Radio 1 June 2nd with Nick Grimshaw. Then she'll likely be at a lot of other radio stations etc. So she will get decent airplay/TV play of the video and will have many TV promo slots. Given the fact she's releasing in a quiet week, I am very sure she'll go top 10.
May 13, 201510 yr Main problem is, Radio 1 doesn't usually playlist songs until like 4 weeks before impact date
May 13, 201510 yr Author Main problem is, Radio 1 doesn't usually playlist songs until like 4 weeks before impact date Then they'll likely C-list it May 29th, the week after B-list it (she has Radio 1 promo that week) and the week after A-list perhaps? That way she'll be on the B-list the week of release which is pretty decent. Unless they put her up to A-list from C-list. I think the release stratergy could work.

In the past you have been positive on lots of things that turn out to be negative for leona success, Ok that you are positive and I like your attitude and I would like to say she will be top 10 (or top 5), but trust me it will be a miracle if on the official chart she will be in the top 20....... the only difference with Florence is the fact that Leona will be AO 4 weeks later (so she only would have more pre orders that would turn out into sales) and palladium performance and small radio spins, that's not enough to chart inside the top 10 especially now that streaming thing is involved
May 13, 201510 yr It's usually 3 weeks for pop releases. I'm sure good promo will stop this from flopping completely, but I don't think it's a wise choice on any account. They need the fan sales to impact at the same time as the rest of the buying public. On air releases are becoming less and less effective for artists, even Rihanna is struggling, and Florence....And like it or not, they are a lot more relevant than Leona. *fingers crossed it's all talk she's playlisted today :D * Edited May 13, 201510 yr by Joe.
May 13, 201510 yr If the impact date is June 29th, surely they won't C-list it till the release week at the earliest - and that means there will have been no radio play before release week so surely it's only going to scrape into the top 40 on fanbase buys alone. Then radios will probably be put off playing it as much as they would've done if it was a normal release strategy if they see it so low in the chart, just as the problem was with the On Air/On Sale releases we had a few years ago such as 'Notorious', 'Beat of My Drum' and that The Wanted single.

I mean the other day you even suggested that it would peak at #50 in release week... Also she has more than just the palladium performance lined up. Not to mention that she can still get good airplay before it's released (BBC Radio 2/BBC Radio 1 will very likely be playing it during release week which is more than just small radio spins). To get into the top 10 you need around 30k or so. Leona's releasing in a quiet week so I think that's pretty doable given the promotion she has coming up.
