It's time to reveal my favourite singles and albums of 2014. It's been a mixed year, I'd say the songs at the top of this chart I love a lot more than the songs atop last year's chart. That said, a few songs that made the top 100 for this year probably wouldn't have made last year's top 100. There have been some really unexpectedly great comeback, some long running #1s and some surprisingly fantastic debuts. Before kicking off proceedings, here are a few great songs and albums that just missed the cut for the top 100 singles/top 40 albums:

I like Neon Jungle, Michael Woods, Ariana, SEB, Beyonce, Calvin/Newman, Lorde (I don't mind the song but I'm not a fan of hers really) and G.R.L. (who are going to do extremely well in mine)

Closer is alright but I'm yet to properly get behind Rae Morris and Animals I'm bored of. IWAY is still my favourite by them this era. Goodness Gracious missing is also a shame too.

Good stuff can't wait for the top 100, Rich. :D

Thanks Rob! Rae has a couple of better songs in the top 100. I do love all of the songs that missed out but ran out of space eek! At least no top five hits missed out!

Really looking forward to this as I love your charts Gooddelta

Hoping You Ruin Me to smash here along with Geronimo which I fell in love with after I discovers it in your charts

Paul McCartney - Hope For The Future

I was a little bit late to the party with Public Service Broadcasting but I caught up in the end and the wartime samples meshed with electronic sounds of Night Mail kick off the top 100. Klangkarussell's singles failed to make an impact in my chart but I gave the album a listen out of curiousity and found a guaranteed smash hidden on it in the form of Symmetry - listen to that chorus and tell me it wouldn't be a hit with the right promo!

Ella Henderson has another entry to come but her current single, the gorgeous piano ballad Yours, does just enough to creep into the top 100 at #98. The first of a trio of BJSC entries in this section is Blonde's I Loved You, which was obviously about to smash so kudos to John for sliding it past the mods and winning the contest (RontBet called it btw) - it got my 12 with some relative ease because it's a garage throwback gem.

Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst hailed from the hit-making nation of Austria (much like Klangkarussell - grabbing those EOY smashes!) and despite the song taking a while to click with me, I can appreciate Rise Like A Phoenix as a strong ballad and she sings the hell out of it. I saw her live at the Eurovision Preview Party and was more than impressed!

Back to BJSC with Family Tree by Meadowlark, a hauntingly beautiful and tender ballad from Syndare yet only my second favourite discovery from that contest - BJSC has been on some blistering form this year! The first of a few album tracks from Dutch country duo The Common Linnets is the Waylon-led When Love Was King, probably the most traditional country of all the songs on the album.

Alcazar's Good Lovin couldn't match Blame It On The Disco but it was a different sound compared to that, a much harder dance style and catchy to boot. Slayroche were on top BJSC form once again this year (apart from one howler) and I've lost count how many points I sent their way this year. But A.G. Cook's Beautiful, a deserved winner, makes my top 100 at #92, and kickstarted my love affair with PC Music - one more of those to come although there would have been plenty more sitting in the top 200.

And at #91 it's former Beatle and legend Paul McCartney, with the best song he's put out for my money since 1997's Young Boy. Written for the soundtrack to video game Destiny, it's a rather epic pop song with a great melody which really deserves a listen.

90-81

90. Kölsch feat Gregor Schwellenbach - Cassiopeia (#5)

89. Firelight - Coming Home (#8)

88. The Veronicas - If You Love Someone (#6)

87. Pharrell Williams - Happy (#10)

86. Cheryl Cole feat Tinie Tempah - Crazy Stupid Love (#7)

85. Robyn & Röyksopp - Do It Again (#8)

84. Delta Goodrem - Love Thy Will Be Done (#5)

83. Nádine - Skildery (#5)

82. Tove Lo - Not On Drugs (#9)

81. Andriette & Adam Tas - Ek Sal (#8)

Kölsch feat Gregor Schwellenbach - Cassiopeia

Nádine - Skildery

Andriette & Adam Tas - Ek Sal

Danish artist Kölsch, aka Rune RK, kicks off the top 90 with a rather stunning instrumental house song complete with beautiful strings that twist and turn for over eight minutes, it's quite a masterpiece and probably should be a lot higher. Malta's pretty brilliant Mumford & Sons Eurovision tribute Coming Home really should have done a LOT better in the contest, not quite sure what happened there.

Following up You Ruin Me was never going to be easy but Australian twin sisters The Veronicas gave it a good shot with If You Love Someone, a sort of Taylor Swift meets Ella Henderson crossover, but with the charm of their earlier material. #87 really needs no introduction, seeing as it's now somehow amongst the top ten biggest selling songs of all time - well done Pharrell.

Cheryl didn't exactly have a vintage year for me, she could have previously been relied upon to finish in my EOY top 40 with any lead single but Crazy Stupid Love bows out at No.86, although I really did grow to quite love it. The same can't be said for I Don't Care...because I don't. Another song that people may have expected significantly higher is Do It Again by Röyksopp & Robyn, which is spectacular of course, but far less so than The Girl and the Robot.

Also crashing out with her only entry this year is the legendary Delta Goodrem, my all time favourite artist. There was a time she could have taken absolutely anything to the top of my chart (averaging 5 #1 singles per album) but this wasn't the case with Martika cover Love Thy Will Be Done, which could only peak at #5. It's a very pleasant listen and a stellar cover, but not up there with her best exactly.

And now a double helping of Afrikaans goodness! The absolutely fantastic Nádine somehow continues to rack up hit after hit for me (two #1 albums and about five top ten hits to date so far I think), she's like a charming cross between Delta, Celine Dion and early 90s Dannii Minogue and deserves more appreciation. Her current single Skildery (painting) is #5 in my Xmas chart and makes #83 here. And Andriette and Adam Tas (me neither - are this pair big stars in SA Kath?) pop up at #81 with the similarly Eurovision-esque mid-tempo pop stomper Ek Sal.

Sandwiched in between is Tove Lo's Not On Drugs - what on earth happened to the single release of this? Why is she being left to wallow as a one hit wonder? Too many questions surrounding such a great singer and such a powerful pop song. More from Tove (as well as another Tove) later.

Delta FLOPPING :o it's like if Kylie didn't have a spot in my top 3.

Yours is so beautiful and I really like If You Love Someone, I hope Heart can get behind them again and give them another hit. I really like Melissa's vocals on I Loved U, Crazy Stupid Love is great and one of my favourite Cheryl singles and I really like Happy again despite the fact it spent forever in the chart

Great start to this chart Gooddelta

I feel like such a flop fan, even worse than when Heart Hypnotic missed my EOY top 40 last year :drama:

Thanks Ultraviolince, yes I'd love to see Heart support them again although I doubt it, I get the feeling they love You Ruin Me because it's a piano ballad. Haha, as I barely listen to the chart anymore I haven't got as bored of Happy as everyone else, thankfully!

From these I like Rich :D

98. Ella Henderson - Yours (#6) gorgeous for this time of year!

97. Blonde feat Melissa Steel - I Loved You (#8)

96. Conchita Wurst - Rise Like A Phoenix (#7)

89. Firelight - Coming Home (#8)

88. The Veronicas - If You Love Someone (#6)

87. Pharrell Williams - Happy (#10) weirdly liking this as of late :o who knew!

85. Robyn & Röyksopp - Do It Again (#8) deserved better officially :(

good good :)

Not On Drugs is amazing! It should've really been a big hit in the UK (if Tove's record label hadn't amanged to screw things up :/)

I agree, it's so bizarre how she's been allowed to just disappear...

80-71

80. Sophia Del Carmen feat Pitbull - Lipstick (#6)

79. Manda - Glow (#7)

78. Sheppard - Let Me Down Easy (#6)

77. Colbie Caillat - If You Love Me Let Me Go (#6)

76. The Veronicas - Born Bob Dylan (#4)

75. Shakira - Empire (#5)

74. Burial - Come Down To Us (#3)

73. Vance Joy - Riptide (#4)

72. Maroon 5 - Feelings (#4)

71. Ed Sheeran - Sing (#6)

Manda - Glow

Colbie Caillat - If You Love Me Let Me Go

Maroon 5 - Feelings

Over to Hendinia and their magnificent BJSC entry for #80, although they understandably avoided sending the Pitbull version, which I love a little bit more for its sheer ridiculousness. And good to hear that RedOne is still capable of knocking out a stellar pop song! And talking of generic pop, Manda's early Katy Perry rip-off Glow was snubbed by more or less everyone on here but I'm not entirely sure why. Yes it's reductive but that chorus...those broken strings...what more can anyone need?

A bit of a strange one at #78, the first of six entries for Brisbane band Sheppard, except this song first charted for me WAY back in April 2013 when I sent it to Unknown Pleasures - who knew that I'd end up loving them THIS much!?! This song remains delightfully jolly and McFly-esque and reached a new peak of #6 this year. Colbie Caillat returned with a great album this year in Gypsy Heart and besides Try, the standout was the wonderfully produced If You Love Me Let You Go, which still sounds so fresh to these ears, I want to be on a Californian beach every time I hear Colbie's voice.

An album track from The Veronicas now, which has outperformed the second single oops. Born Bob Dylan is classic Veronicas, and could have quite easily been on their first album, it just has that trademark MOR pop rock sound. Talking of MOR pop rock, Shakira's Empire dabbled in this genre, also channeling Alanis. A gloriously wacky ballad and a shame it wasn't a bigger hit.

Right back to the start of the year for the brilliant top three hit from Burial, which twists and turns throughout the musical masterpiece, taking a different direction every few minutes but making for a stunning soundscape overall. Vance Joy's Riptide features for its second year in a row after blowing up this year and shamefully peaking higher in my chart too - at least it went top ten for me before the success so I'm not a complete sellout.

Maroon 5's best song of 2014 for my money was album track Feelings, which Adam Levine haters will absolutely despise due to his prominent falsetto on the chorus. I still can't listen to this song without thinking that it would be perfectly suited to S Club 7. It's the song Alive wishes it was, and I can imagine Jo's voice soaring over the chorus (assuming that she learns how to sing again sometime soon that is).

And rounding off this section is Ed Sheeran's Pharrell produced comeback single Sing. After the first three singles from + all topped my chart, people were probably expecting my loonery to continue but this song never quite found the legs to reach my top five. However over time I've come to appreciate it a lot more, and it sounds great playing loud in a club. However...Ed does still have the other two singles still to come, quite a bit later on, so the looning is not quite over.

I never really got the hate for Adam's voice, it's so good  and different to almost all other male lead singers in bands. Helps that he's so hawt too :kink:

I agree, he's a great singer!

I really like Empire and I also like Sing and Riptide at times [but find them overplayed or boring at other times]

Luckily I rarely listen to the radio! So overplayed songs do well here *.*

70-61

70. Taylor Swift - Shake It Off (#5)

69. The Saturdays - What Are You Waiting For? (#3)

68. Agnes - Instant Repeater (#4)

67. Fox Stevenson - Tico (#5)

66. Charli XCX - Boom Clap (#5)

65. Madonna - Rebel Heart (#3)

64. Public Service Broadcasting - Spitfire (#3)

63. Taylor Swift - Out Of The Woods (#5)

62. Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne - Real Love (#5)

61. Sweet California - This Is the Life (#4)

Agnes - Instant Repeater

Fox Stevenson - Tico

Sweet California - This Is the Life

Taylor Swift's comeback anthem Shake It Off kicks off the top 70, a brilliant pop song but not QUITE a lead single as great as We Are Never Ever Getting Back Togther, which was #6 in my EOY 2012 chart. And #69 is the floptastic Saturdays single What Are You Waiting For. Generic yes but very much an anthemic and enjoyable pop song.

A former EOY chart topper herself back in 2009, former Swedish Idol winner Agnes took part in Sa Mycket Battre last year and her cover of Soundtrack Of Our Lives' Instant Repeater was easily the best song to come out of that series of the show, turning it into a typical string-laden pop beauty. Yehesi UP at #67, with the brilliant instrumental dance song Tico by Fox Stevenson...how did this not finish top ten in BJSC exactly? And why is a talented UK producer big in The Netherlands and not anywhere else (I can see his new single in the Dutch iTunes chart right now...). Merci pour la discovery Tim YASSS.

Charli XCX's pop monster Boom Clap is easily the best thing she's put her name to since I Love It (apologies to Igloo Australia, she won't be featuring here) and fits very well in The Fault In Our Stars. When will your faves crash into the top 70 of the year with a demo? Madonna manages just that with Rebel Heart, currently #3 in my weekly chart - channeling herself at her better moments as well as the likes of Girls Aloud and Robyn. What a chorus, and that post-chorus production...go Avicii *.* It seems to be the title track of her new album so I'm very much looking forward to hearing the final version.

Public Service Broadcasting's second entry in the chart is my first BJSC entry of 2014 to crash out, the marvellous alt-indie war sampling Spitfire. More Taylor at #63 with the excellent Out Of The Woods - hopefully a future single, but this era could have so many, the potential is definitely there. Clean Bandit's second huge smash of the year (sorry Extraordinary) was Real Love, which once again roped in the vocals of the sublime Jess Glynne. Managing not to sound anything like Rather Be quite impressively, it's a solid 90s-influenced anthem that more than stands up on its own merits.

And my second BJSC entry to appear is Spanish girlband Sweet California who memorably crashed into the top ten in their final with the deliciously tacky and sugary sweet Avicii rip-off This Is The Life. Not. Even. Sorry.

What Are You Waiting For is great and so fun and I also adore Boom Clap. I used to love Real Love but I am bored of it now

Those 2 Taylor tracks are unsurprisingly lush  Shake It Off is definitely one of my favourite songs ever and it is so catchy and addictive and Out Of The Woods is stunning, it really needs to be a single
