I ummed and aahed about whether to put this topic in pop or R&B. I thought I'd be safe and put it in here for now. Mods, please feel free to move it as discussion unfolds...

With Marvin doing his thing with LuvBug and Aston still yet to make a solo appearance (JB's a farmer these days. Go figure), JLS' founder Oritsé is now the second member of the band to go it alone, under his new stage name OWS (which stands for his initials). His first single 'Waterline' is now on iTunes and features a guest rap from Pusha T, and the video premiered today:

It's a very different sound, a lot more chilled out than I expected him to do but I like it! The production's quite cool on it as well. Thoughts?

Wasn't a big fan of JLS (thought their 'flop' single "Hold Me Down" was one of their best oddly), but this is great; helped by the fact that Pusha T turns everything he's on into gold. I wonder if Radio 1 will get behind it at all, they seem to be avoiding LuvBug on account of Humes' Capital FM association (although he's also a host on their own The Voice UK strange enough).
This is actually, surprisingly brilliant. It reminds me of something Nick Jonas would record right now (which is not a bad thing imo), but with a more urban sound. Really surprised by this. Hope his album is a lot more in this style!

Doing his first solo performance at South by Southwest in US next month, then a gig here at Oslo in London on 24th March!

Really enjoying this right now. Such an effortlessly smooth production! Pusha T's rap fits really nicely too.

Popjustice did an article on this today!

JLS alumnus Oritsé Williams is back but he’s now calling himself OWS and seems to have been listening to a lot of Miguel (or Nick Jonas).

OWS’ first single is called ‘Waterline’ and features a bit of a rap from Pixie Lott’s good friend Pusha T.

Here’s the video:

He’s also on Twitter if you fancied saying hello.

Oh and apparently he’ll be having a bit of a singsong at SXSW (!) later this year.

This is indeed very surprising. Credit where credit is due, it's a great song! Definite Miguel vibes~

Not sure about the stage name though.

I don't really like it. I think he has a weak vocal and it sounds like a Labrinth demo. The production is alright but he just sounds bad.
