I noticed that British/Irish acts have locked up the top three, and because I have way too much time on my hands, I looked up when it last happened, and it hadn't happened since October 15, 1988:

  1. UB40 – Red Red Wine
  2. Def Leppard – Love Bites
  3. Phil Collins – Groovy Kind of Love

I tried looking this up the other day (when 4 of Top 5 were Brit/Irish) but didn't have the patience

It wasn't that bad going backward through the past 20 years until I hit the early '90s when a lot of acts I knew nothing about or had never even heard of hit number one, and I had to check their nationalities individually :drama:
Only 3 women in the Top 10 (well 2, cos Taylor's there twice) :o .

Massive difference to 3-4 months ago when they locked out the top 5!

BILLBOARD HOT 100

** 54 Rihanna & Kanye West & Paul McCartney - FourFiveSeconds (NEW)

Not bad for 1 day's sales and streaming, and 3 days of airplay.

Fall Out Boy finally in the top 10
"All About That Bass" finally out, too!

Also notable: Becky G returning, the Rihanna debut coming so fast  and the other debuts from Nicki and Natalie La Rose

The last time there were four British acts inside top five was probably in 1988 during this week:

1 1 8 ONE MORE TRY George Michael

2 2 12 SHATTERED DREAMS Johnny Hates Jazz

3 4 15 NAUGHTY GIRLS Samantha Fox

4 7 8 EVERYTHING YOUR HEART DESIRES Daryl Hall And John Oates

5 8 8 TOGETHER FOREVER Rick Astley

Good songs there, Sam Fox was quite big in the US for a while.

Crickey, who knew Sam Fox was so successful in the US

Anyway, turns out there's a later chart with 4 brits in the Top 5:

October 22nd, 1988

LW TW ARTIST - TITLE

03 01 PHIL COLLINS - Groovy Kind Of Love

01 02 UB40 - Red Red Wine

05 03 INFORMATION SOCIETY - What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)

02 04 DEF LEPPARD - Love Bites

09 05 THE ESCAPE CLUB - Wild, Wild West

the week after the Top 3 brits chart mentioned by dhwe.

I hope Girl Crush and especially Talking Body climb into the Hot 100 and go higher and higher in the coming weeks
